  1. First I would like to thank to the people here who replied my post, it shows consideration and I appreciate it a lot. @bhr, please don't feel offended, I did not mean that the committee are biased against students from developing contries, I said " maybe they don't value that much". What I mean is even from the best of the best, it might still has a distance from the American academic requirements, that's why I am applying for MA now, to get into the system. I told my background because I felt depressed, and it was a big slap to my ego. Maybe you don't understand, but maybe your Chinese friends, if u have any, can tell you how hard it is to make it to the Top 1-Top 3, and what it means. In our system, we do not apply, exams have started ever since elementary schools. It was very cruel in high school, they ranked the whole class and u can see every single note of yourself and your classmates posted at the wall of your classroom. I did not apply to good schools without a reason, I thought if I am qualified here maybe I am also qualified elsewhere. ( too young too naive lol) But, you and a lot of ppl here are right that my English is not good enough based on my posts. It is not even my second language, it is my third language. So maybe my expression was not accurate enough but I am not looking for excuses here, just pointed out a fact, that after 3 years of training, unfortunately it is still not good enough. My writing sample and my PS I let my foreign friends and colleagues ( German ) reviewed, they said they were impressed or touched. But I guess for Ivies u need to be outstanding:) I am applying to normal MAs now because I think that would give me two years to improve my English writing. Once international students are in the system and got better training of the writing in English, at least it might be easier for me because I don't need so much time to work hard on languages anymore. I just have to focus on theories and literary pieces. Creative academic mind is what counts at the end anyway. So I am ok with 2 years delay, it might offer me a better CV. Truth is I did apply to the Syracuse CCR program, because I like the concept of the program. It's not only rhetoric focused, also on culture studies, teaching and writing. Others have been all comparative literature. I started this thread to find ppl who also have the same idea or were unlucky and we can encourage each other or share information. Life have been tough enough. Going back to work.
  2. Coca Cola, pizza, chicken wings and chocolate. Now the torturing period is over, I would like to go back normal.
  3. I just made my decision that if I only get rejections( I am trying MAs now), I would quit my job for good and reapply next year. Maybe it is really no pain no gain.
  4. I am not sure that I could handle so many rejections next week.....this application round really made me depressed. And good to know that I need to study so much to be a competitive applicant. Were u replying for English and comparative literature? I hope at least I could make it to master for Columbia or NYU. Even I don't think I could afford it.
  5. I applied to 8 schools. 1 rejection, and 6 others ppl already posted on the board acceptances while I did not get any mails. The only one left is Princeton. I believe 100% that they would reject me. Sigh. Life is tough.
  6. Harvard is up!!!! Wow... Congrats!!! And I guess I have to join 2015:(
  7. Wow!!!! Congratulations!!!!! Good news! I would LOVE to go to Syracuse, but CCR rejected me yesterday! See, we re still in the game! I am doing research today. Applying to MAs now.
  8. Have still to hear from Harvard and Princeton. And I am applying to MA now. Kind of lost my hope. But yeah, I would join.
  9. Thank you very much! I would look into it!
  10. hey, thank you very much! Just wrote to California State! Their ddl is 01.03. Do u know if it is good? Since 3 of my cousins are doing graduate studies in the middle of the country, that would be no problem! But I have to say I so dream of New York lol!
  11. Hey community. Just received a rejection from Syracuse this morning which crushed my heart. Though I still have to hear from Harvard Columbia and Princeton, I would say the possibilities are like a ice cream staying fresh in the summer:) I have think about a lot of things recently. I graduated from one of the Tops in China, ranking No.1. I did my master with a GPA which was the best of the whole class lasted for 3 years. Have learned 5 languages, 2 publications but I guess I am still not competitive enough. So I think maybe I should do a master in the US first, maybe they don't value MA from international developing countries that much. So I decided to apply to MAs this weekend. Sigh.... I guess best things in life always need hard work and persistence. I guess if I can study 2 years in the US I would be more competitive for phd later. What do u guys think? Any recommended programs with late ddl? My interest is comparative literature. Cheers~ Wendy
  12. I also got mine today. They said because it's a small program. I guess because I focus too much on literature.
  13. Hey! Wow, another Chinese applicant! Greetings! Thank you very much for the sharing, would definitely check them out as soon as possible! Now I think I would also take a MA if schools like NYU would offer me one. But just in case I would continue applying to some schools. I hope the deadlines are still not passed? Otherwise I would consider it this fall if I am unlucky:)
  14. Yes I am talking about comparative literature. I have the bad feeling that rejections would be overwhelming next week.
  15. what about NYU literature? Their ddl was 2 months ago!
  16. Hello ppl~ I ve been here for a while, and after going through this horrible horrible process of waiting together, I am so happy for the ppl who got accepted!!!! As for me, I guess I am not that lucky, implied rejections from Stanford Connell NYU and Yale, and I also lost hope of the others. I think I might not be competitive enough and would consider a MA first. Can anybody helps with informations? I am interested into cultural studies and comparative literature, feminism, identity studies and creative writing. The thing is it is so late in the season and I think I would need founding. So please drop some information if you know:)) Also my verbal is only 147, they have to be forgiven on internatinal students:)) Thanks!!!
  17. I am here with you! Nothing yet! 8 schools not hear back from any! Latest ddl is 15.01.
  18. Congrats on everybody who has been accepted or are at the top of a wait list!!!!! I feel a little bit weird to hear from all of my schools starting this weekend!!!!! 8 rejections maybe.... There is still slim hope that Harvard accept me right? Hahaha
  19. I think I would also apply to MA this weekend. I think there are still schools out there with a very late ddl.
  20. Very possible to do it together with ya. Btw, if u re unlucky, ( I hope not!!!) would u do it full time applying or find a job first? Because I am considering to quit mine in the summer.
  21. Relax. I heard nothing yet and am planing for fall 2015:(( I even would move out next week to be closer at my old university to have the studying environment.
  22. I somehow have the feeling that CCR in Syracuse is a program combined with creative writing and academic teaching. Don't know if I am right ?
  23. As to be honest, how particular do u think the program is? I asked Steve about what he thinks would fit the program or what the program is looking for, unfortunately he did not reply. Well, besides of a thesis, I sent them a personal diary lol, is this weird? And to your creative thought of thread, I might start a " reapplying for 2015" lol
  24. Well, I think starting from this weekend, massive rejections would get on me. Also waiting on Syracuse. Out of curiosity, what did you send them as writing samples? This is the only Rhetoric program I applied.
  25. Anybody heard sth from Syracuse CCR? Might be my last chance this year.
