  1. Just realized one if my status is incomplete. GRE scores not received. But I paid for everything and got feedback from ETS! Gonna call Stanford. I know the list is closed, but still, I guess the committee never reviewed my app. Close to break.
  2. This is a shock!!!!! I was not invited to the interview which means being rejected. Now I have to think if they never saw my application at all!!!!!
  3. Just found out that my mine was not sent to Stanford!
  4. Btw. I am international applicant . I don't know if there is a timing difference.
  5. Thank you for sharing the notes. I had heard nothing from my 8 schools yet. 4 of them had already made offers and I am experiencing a difficult period. According to the result board, I don't know what to believe, because acceptances always are earlier than rejections. I am already on my way giving up hope on this year. But still, I like your post.
  6. Gym!!! After full time working I took a spinning class yesterday and then walked for half an hour. Felt asleep in the subway. Better than staring grad cafe and constantly want to email the DGS! Hope to lose my 30 pounds I gained during application period!
  7. one acceptance being submitted. There crushes the dream. Is yours still in progress? Mine is still.
  8. Thank you very much for the advise! I mean the result board from recent years. But you are right, 2 weeks, I can live with that ( I hope). I don't want to annoy them honestly, and as this program gives u a chance to send more than 1 writing sample, I guess it really takes time to read all the fictions, papers, poetry etc. Then maybe they have to discuss which one shows potential skills to become an academic or writer...I am just anxious since Syracuse is kind of my last hope. It is the only rhetoric program I applied. All others were literature. Good luck to all of us! Hope to see u there!
  9. Hey~ thank you very much! I would def. check! I work now but I think I can still try to go back to my old college to research. My major was comparative literature and world literature. I have published 2 papers , one about Pamuk one on " world literature review", but both in Chinese journals which might not count. I also wrote about Eliot, Nabokov, cross culture studies, German poet Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan( my master thesis), so I would try to polish them and translate them and then try to publish them. Thank you very much! I might reapply. Don't think rejected elsewhere would get me in Harvard or Princeton..... Heartbreak, pretty depressed recently.
  10. Is it rude if I email Steve? According to the board I guess they have already made up their mind. Just can't endure the torture anymore.
  11. We re in the same boat. I only have 4 schools left. Other four are implied rejections. I can't concentrate and hope to get this done quickly to focus on reapply. Do u know how to publicate in American journal which would actually count?
  12. Lieber Horb, vielen Dank, I think it is funded! If not I am not able to afford it. I might apply for Germany this year . Any recommendations??? My German is very good, but I still hope that the program would be in English. I used to live in Hamburg, and I am eager get to know Berlin. My friends are in Würzburg~ how to chose lol ?
  13. Hey guys, does anyone knows something about Loyola Marymount university ? They have a English literature MA program and my friend told me to apply since ddl is very late. I already have a MA but chances seems bad this year. I think I would apply to some lower rankings and late ddl this weekend. Any recommendations?
  14. Hey purple, thank you very much for your comfort! I have to say I know so many ppl, some of them science students who have a very high verbal but have problems in even talking to foreigners. That's sad. I learn Language in another way but it is not helpful for exams. I don't particularly like the GRE, but I understand it is a key point to compare applicants. Just have to work harder. No excuse. Thank you very much for sharing. I have done alt of research recently and I think schools use GRE for the cut. So if it is a decent score, even not super high, it is enough. After the cut, they might be focus on SOP and WS, which is apparently much more important. Good luck all who are still awaiting. I did not get any formal rejections yet. Let them come to me so I can restart.
  15. Well, let's stay positive!!! I still have 5 choices, would be insanely happy if any of them wants me~
  16. No problem~ I don't believe I would get in. I would frame my rejection letter haha.
  17. I don't know what is more difficult, verbal 166..... It's nearly impossible for me... But I assume I can reapply next year. Yes, I did apply to Harvard, almost everyone in my department who wants a phd does. BUT they don't suck in verbals.....as to be honest I really don't know if I should keep doing my job, it just take my whole Monday to Friday and sometimes weekends, and it's in German, so not much time for English. I really suck in math. I spent all of my time studying the Q part, which apparently is not important .... If I knew that earlier. Well, that's fate, I would be greatly beyond happy if I would accepted anywhere.
  18. Well, I guess u are an English applicant, I am a literature one and I assume we don't apply for the same program. The dean said the higher the better of the verbal, but no line. Also other ppl told me WS is much more important than GRE, especially for somebody whose mother-tongue is not English. They require four language skills so I had to learn a forth language and study math, I did not have time to prepare for verbal. But I assume that my score is too low, that's why if I reapply my first thing would be retake GRE.
  19. I would wait till April. I know that I have been rejected from Stanford for sure and I know that NYU and Yale might don't want me either. But I still have hope on Cornell which don't require GRE from international students. My verbal is only 147 and I guess if schools like Stanford use that to make the cut, I would be out. I also know that Syracuse and Harvard both don't care about GRE too much so I am still waiting. But yes, there are a lot of things I would like to improve. One of my very strong professor from UCLA had an operation this year and could not write me an R letter. This is key for international students because I assume committee turn to believe well known professors more. I only had Chinese professors and some of them did not know me very well. The one who knows me very well did not have a big title... So as u see, lots of things are able to change, but I would recommend u still waiting patiently to the results:). I emailed Stanford and asked how I could improve and I decide to use this period of time to read more papers and translate my master thesis into English. It is the best thesis I have ever written but it is in Chinese. I recommend u do the same thing, that's no waste of time, and revising your thesis might get u published and get more competitive next year if you really want to reapply. I wish us good luck!!!!
  20. Cornell is in progress while Princeton is only" submitted". They use the same system. Any explanations? Thanks!
  21. I am seriously thinking about it these days. I already worked for almost 2 years and I missed literature research so much. While full-time working, I can not concentrate on preparing my materials and I really think that that was one the main point why I suck this year, the lack of research. I wrote my SOP in business trip, and my writing sample during the night. Weekends are used to study GRE math and Toefl and if friends want to catch up, there is not much time left. I am not sure if I can do that again this year. But concerning financial problems I am not sure about it. Well, there is still 1 month to wait. If I get 8 rejections out of 8, I think I maybe take a gap year.
  22. I might also consider funded MA. But the only school I applied who asked that is NYU I guess, and I am pretty sure they don't fund MA students, which sucks.....btw, I emailed a NYU professor to ask, would share it if they give out infos.
  23. I know, that is what the email said...just so hard not to stare at the board and stay calm...now that 3 choices of mine have been informing students and I got nothing, calling them seems so appealing
