  1. I come to you from philosophy, but am very interested in psych. I wondered if ya'll could point me to a website or post here regarding the best masters programs for students without a formal psych background (if there are such things)? I am intrigued by Wake Forest's general psych masters, and they seem to accept some students outside of a traditional psych background. What about masters programs that have reduced psych prerequisites? Also, is there a site that ranks psych masters programs? The end goal is to move to a PhD program.
  2. Wow, congrats! This is about the only place I have a shot at anymore, so I'm crossing my fingers.
  3. I was shut out of PhD programs (9 apps). And I did my sample on debunking arguments. I got waitlisted at one top-10 MA for funding...
  4. Dancy is no slouch for metaethics. And even if you're only gonna see him in the Spring for coursework, he could still end up being your dissertation adviser, or on your committee at least. What about placement record? I imagine Madison's is better...
  5. Don't know what Southern Baptists or ID has to do with me, but I'm just having fun at your expense. But I'm not apologizing for it
  6. You should go to NIU so that I can go to WMU trololol
  7. "good objection" in a "serious manner" aye? Ask TheEstablishment. He's a reasonable person who will engage you in a serious manner with good objections, or so I hear.
  8. I agree. And I went in to debt for my first MA. I totally regret it. If I could do it over again, I'd have gone to a funded program.
  9. Again, cute. Well, if you won't seriously engage, and you won't castigate me as a troll, then I'm going to disengage with you. Good day.
  10. If you think I'm a troll, then don't engage. Isn't that the first rule of troll-management 101?
  11. Show me how I'm wrong, then. Pick any set of metaphilosophical axioms, and show me how those axioms aren't themselves religious or don't imply or entail religious consequences.
  12. You can't possibly be this naive. All philosophy is guided by religious commitments.
  13. All of the philosophy courses qualify as philosophy. Of course the others don't, because, well, they're not philosophy...
  14. It's an MA program called "Philosophy of Religion and Ethics" at a seminary. How is that radical? It looks like they changed the title to "Philosophy." At any rate, it's at a seminary where the dean requires that all students take certain core classes, including theology, biblical studies, spiritual formation, etc. regardless of their major.
  15. Some rich dude or dudette needs to endow them, damnit.
  16. Many of my friends have secured more funding. Some elite schools even have wiggle room of up to 5k a year to try and entice top students. So, for example, if a school were to offer you a 25k a year fellowship, it's not unlikely that you could get it bumped to 28 or even 30 if you were sufficiently rock-starrin' it.
  17. Man, I was hoping you were declining...
  18. Given how hard it is to financially make it through a PhD program, I can't see how it would be rational to not try and get the best offer you can. So, yes, you should play programs off of each other if you get multiple offers. Also, it's another indication of how bad a program wants you (or not). That's useful information in its own right.
  19. Yes. You should be doing this if you get multiple offers.
  20. More confirmation (as if we needed more) that this whole process is absurd.
  21. People have biases, or opinions, or make strong judgments concerning certain propositions. No way!
