I don't know about Moldova, but at this point (almost 2pm EST) I am starting to think that Mexico won't be coming out this week... At least I can relax over the weekend without this horrid anticipation.

I feel ya.  Last year, I was notified on a Friday at 6:10pm (EST) so this year I keep hoping to get the email even after 5pm...it's dreadful.

EDIT: I also just looked on the spreadsheet and saw that compared to last year, Mexico's notification is now 2 weeks late - I am so sorry! The wait must be excruciating.  Moldova usually doesn't notify until the middle of April, so my wait isn't unusual...just painful.

If I get the Fulbright I would definitely take it. Seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would love to carry out my research project.

Where did you apply for the Fulbright? My country (Kosovo) usually sends notifications mid April as well so I know how you feel

I applied for research in Moldova, so we are in the same boat with waiting.  I had my hopes up that I would be notified early since there were so many early notifications, but I think I need to lower my expectations to save my sanity.  Easier said than done though!

The waiting is beginning to wear on me. I just got a job working for the USDA in Hawaii and I have to let them know within a few weeks, so I am hoping we all find out ASAP.

Anyone else in a similar position with a job offer or grad school?

Your job sounds like a fantastic opportunity!! Now that you have gotten the job, are you committed to taking the Fulbright if you are a finalist?

I have accepted a grad school offer, but I will defer if I get the Fulbright - even though there is a chance that I could lose my funding package for my program.  At the moment it also looks like my internship might have the potential to turn into permanent work.  So, like you, I am itching to hear back!

I know it could be any day now, but at this point I am betting that I will find out in the middle of April like I did last year.

This list are winners from last year. Duke was named one of the top producing institution this year based on last years grantee numbers.

You are right, that makes much more sense!

Hey guys -- was reading this article

    http://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2016/03/twelve-students-graduates-named-fulbright-scholars

They use the term Scholars, but it seems that some of these would be study/research grants. Does anyone agree? Figured if we get consensus, we can use some of that to update the spreadsheet (we could say before 3/16 or something if it's a country where no applicants are on the forum to confirm). Just thought it might be good for future years looking back at the data!

Yes, those are definitely students that applied.  The terminology gets confusing when it's used incorrectly, because only U.S. faculty members/working professionals qualify to apply as Fulbright Scholars.

Slovakia found out this morning, unfortunately I wasn't selected. I'm very sad, and giving myself today to be bummed, but tomorrow is a new day. I'm going to focus on graduating, and that because I won't be going on the Fulbright my boyfriend and I will most likely be moving in together. Just trying to stay positive.

All the best for everyone, regardless of the outcome of the Fulbright.

I'm sorry to hear that, I was rooting for you! But I am glad that you are thinking positively!

My understanding of the system is that once we made it through the first round (of US review) our applications were sent to review in-country, but that the notification email we'll receive for principal/alternate/non-select comes from the US Fulbright commission (or IEE/whatever the proper term is -- but within the US, on eastern time). Veterans on this thread feel free to clarify/correct if I got it wrong!!

The final notification should come from IIE, just like the semi-finalist notification.  It seems that, according to this page, once the country's Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy decides, their decision must still be approved by FFSB.  So I'm curious what the turn-around time is for FFSB to approve of the selection.

Hi!! I have a friend who got to the ETA last week...the email of acceptance was not from IIE, but from an individual who worked for the specific Fulbright Commission in her given country...I am not sure if this is unique to Turkey, but her email was from an actual person, not a generated user like IIE or Embark etc.

Maybe your friend's notification is unique to Turkey or whoever emailed her from Turkey's Fulbright commission skirted the protocol and notified her first? My email last year was technically emailed from the IIE program manager for my region, but the email was IIE generated - so maybe your friend just thought the email was from the Fulbright Commission? Hard to say.

Thanks for the kind words!  I also appreciate your perspective.  I'm not sure I can reapply (I'll have my Ph.D in hand by next summer), but I'm going to check and will probably do that if I can and my status doesn't convert.  Do you mind me asking how you knew how many alternates there were?  I emailed our university coordinator and she had no info for me.  Best of luck to you!

We only knew about each other because of this forum.  Magically, all of the semi-finalists for Moldova were on this forum last year.  Otherwise, I don't believe there is any way to figure out the number of alternates selected.  We were surprised that there were 2 of us as alternates, because, initially, there was only 1 research grant recipient.  So I am not even sure what the formula is for deciding on the number of alternates.  I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, I really wish this process was more transparent.

I feel your pain! (As I'm sure everyone still waiting does haha). I'm crossing my fingers (and toes) that a lot of people hear today. Clearly we can't expect things to follow last year given countries that have already broken the pattern, but I'm still irrationally hoping Ireland follows it because then the results should come out today! Gahh

Yes! I would feel much more calm if notifications were happening in the same time-frame as last year, but now I am having so much anxiety because the notifications could really happen at any time! I am sure it is more difficult for you because Ireland was notified this time last year.  I hope you hear back today!!

I just got the email! I won the full Fulbright Study/Research grant for Italy! I am so stoked!

But on the other hand, my condolences for lyonessrampant and Italylove. I would have loved to meet fellow gradcafers.

Congratulations!! Did you end up receiving the deaf studies grant or did you stick with the traditional study/research grant?

So, just notified for Italy.  I'm an alternate.  I guess I should be kind of happy, but I'm more fucking stressed now.  The email says that the alternates aren't ranked and doesn't provide info on how alternates might move to principals.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Same here :/ super bummed about it, but I guess there really isn't much that anyone can do. Which fellowship did you apply for? I was notified that I am an alternate for the MPA at SDA Bocconi. An alternate status feels almost worse than NS, because now I feel like there still might be some hope rather than accepting that I haven't won. But it's okay, the world still turns and I'm still breathing, my heart just hurts a little :(

I am so sorry that the two of you were chosen as alternates! I understand your range of emotions, as I was selected as an alternate last year.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to get additional information about my status after notification.  There were two of us alternates last year for Moldova and the other alternate was bumped up, but not until the middle of June.  In some ways, being an alternate really is worse than being a NS because the waiting doesn't end - I spent the entire summer on pins and needles hoping that I would be promoted also.  But now, looking back, I am very happy that I was chosen as an alternate instead of NS and being chosen as an alternate informed my decision to apply again.  Even though the 2015-2016 grant year would have been the PERFECT time for me to live abroad for a year, I am hoping that I am selected this year and I will have to make things work.

Best of luck to both of you! And remember that being chosen as an alternate is still an achievement and future employers, professors, etc. will be impressed to see that you were an alternate on your resume or cv.

I don't know if I can take much more of this cycle of anxiety. Fulbright waiting is bad for my health.

Amen! This has to be one of the most difficult academic processes to go through.  But we'll come out stronger on the other side because of it.  And you aren't the only one who can't stop obsessing, that's why this forum exists, after all!

  13. My application was due on January 1st, I stupidly wrote in my SOP that I was starting an internship in the field in January 2015 and wrote the internship dates as 2015 on my resume as well.  That is the worst mistake of forgetting to write the new year that I have ever made.

I was stressed about it and then I was accepted with funding.  So hooray! And I am sure that these review committees laugh at our mistakes right along with us.

  14. 2 hours ago, Caytei said:

I just wish there were a way to reach out and tell the committee that it was a mistake and not the only program I would consider attending. Has anyone heard of someone doing this or is that a step too far? Any chance this isn't as big of a deal as I think it is? Anyone else going through something similar or was everyone put-together enough not to send a mistake on their Fulbright application

I don't think that your mistake was detrimental.  People have found silly mistakes on their applications before.  I doubt that will greatly impact whether you are accepted or rejected, especially because you didn't have to affiliate with a university in advance.

There is a thread on here for people who have made mistakes on their grad school apps, I'll find it for you because it is hilarious and it will make you feel better.

    EDIT:

I made a silly mistake on my grad school app this year and I was very stressed over it.  And then I was accepted and I realized that these things happen all the time and review committees are usually kind enough to overlook them.  It's all just human error.

I am also curious if this happens for every country? I applied to Ireland and haven't heard anything.

Anyone who may know (from previous cycles, etc.) please chime in!

No, this doesn't happen for every country.  At least not before you are chosen as a recipient (also remember that we included our passport numbers in our applications).  Busybee's country most likely needs the passport for a specific reason in this case.  I don't think anyone should fret because they haven't received a similar email.

Not me, but my friend who applied to Portugal ETA heard back today so it seems that announcements have begun

That's great! Did your friend receive the grant?

Looking at the spreadsheet it seems really early for both Iceland and Portugal to notify, so that's really exciting.
