  1. I attend Ohio University right now, and being in Southern Ohio, the weather really isn't bad (I can only compare it to Cleveland weather though). On average, it's about 10-12 degrees warmer than Cleveland.
  2. No, it was just included in my acceptance.
  3. NYU has offered me $7000 per semester ($28,000 for the 2 years). Also an incomplete package. Case offered a 23,000 scholarship and 12,000 living stipend, which is generous, but would like to know info about work-study, etc. I wish that the full packages are available to us all at once, instead of getting it in bits and pieces. I had my FAFSA submitted on 1/4. Really need to know the full package before I can accept anything.
  4. Case gave me an incomplete package. They told me that some scholarship decisions are pending, etc. No financial aid package from NYU yet.
  5. I was thinking of the surface pro 2, which I can apparently play simcity on (which was the only game that I care about still playing), and it can have the full version of windows, etc. Although the sleek laptops don't seem that bad either. There's just so many out there...
  6. Just made it through the Skype re-interview. Someone else had the same problems I did though and has to reschedule. :/
  7. I'll need to replace my laptop before grad school begins, since my current one has deteriorated significantly (in performance and some damage on the outside) in the last few months. Any recommendations on laptops or tablets? I'm looking for a model that can do word-processing, netflex, etc., and handle a few games on steam. I don't see a need for a Macbook Pro, but am willing to consider almost anything else.
  8. Was browsing my phone (and by that, I mean obsessively checking my email) last night while here on spring break in Northern Ireland.
  9. Just got scheduled for a new interview for next Thursday.
  10. I just got accepted yesterday and my hometown is in the Cleveland area too. I still want to weigh all possible options though. The funding seems pretty generous, but not sure how it compares with other MSW programs and what/if other schools will offer.
  11. Same! I was so excited for a brief second, then was disappointed.
  12. I have still not been able to re-schedule my interview. I call the office 2 times a week and email them 1-2 times a week. The last I heard from them was last Wednesday. The email said that I'd get new dates to choose from on the 21st. No successful contact since then. It's really frustrating.
  13. I turned in my application on 1/6 (UW's deadine), so I'm not expecting to hear from them soon.
  14. Just got an email two minutes ago with the subject: "UW Master of Social Work: Applicant...." Oddly enough, it was when I started to read this particular board. That was all I could see in the mobile app, so I got frantically clicked it. Ends up being a survey. "In an ongoing effort to meet student needs, we would appreciate your help with an online survey. Your response to the survey will be strictly confidential and will not affect your application. We will use the results to improve our service to you and other applicants to this degree program." I got so excited.
  15. While I hope to go to grad school for social work, my three-year undergraduate career included sociology/criminology, a minor in history, and certificates in law, justice, and culture and European studies. Some of my favorite topics from undergrad focuses and focused on 20th century history (specifically WWII, Eastern Europe, and the Holocaust), critical legal and criminological theories, the intersection of race, gender, SES, age in different life situations, conditions within prisons and post-release conditions for ex-offenders, and post-conflict societies. Depending on if I'm actually accepted, I think that I've been quite lucky that I was able to pursue topics I'm truly interested in during undergrad, while starting to focus on a professional degree with a couple of SW courses during my last two semesters here.
  16. Ideally, I'd like to continue working at a DV shelter in my college town, but I think I'll need to work as well, just to try to save up as much as I can. But my dad wouldn't be too happy if I didn't come home this summer too, especially if I move out of state. I haven't spent a summer home since my senior year of high school...
  17. They asked about sw-related experience, what I felt I can bring to the school, what (if any) populations that I would not feel comfortable working with, and that was as far as I got. Being a group interview, the order of who answered the questions varied, etc.
  18. It was going really well. I was confident in my answers and the interviewer was nice and understanding about the connection issues. I think the writing sample was planned, but I have no clue what happened after I couldn't re-connect to the call anymore.
  19. I can see myself doing the same thing, but would like something constructive to do too...
  20. I am completing my BA within 3 years (thanks to high school AP credits), so I could go either way with a break. It would be nice to travel more than just a week, but finances could be an issue (especially since I don't drive at all). Depending on what my boyfriend can find (audio/music production), he'll come with me so it won't be as lonely. However, we're also fully prepared to do long-distance.
  21. I'm graduating from undergrad in May, and will have until late August or Sept. before Grad School starts (assuming I get into a school ). Have the opportunity to travel for a week immediately after graduation to Israel. I recently got rejected from two internships, and am waiting to hear back from 1 more. Looking for more to apply to. Have also started to apply for several retail/restaurant jobs in my college town (SE Ohio), hometown (suburb of Cleveland), and where some of the grad schools I've applied to are (NYC). Depending on where I'm accepted, and what I choose, I'll also need to move. How much time should be dedicated to this process? What did/are you going to do for the summer before grad school begins?
  22. I feel like I'm getting the run-around with Hunter. Since my half-interview, I have been trying for two weeks to arrange a new skype interview over e-mail and by phone, and even offered to come to NYC, but with no response for days at a time. When I did get a response (on Tuesday the 19th), it was to wait until the end of the week for new dates. Now the week has ended... Just venting, I suppose.
