  1. I've been rejected by 3 out of my 5 schools. There comes a point where you seriously just stop thinking about the possibility of getting accepted at all and just move on. Granted it was fine...until school #3 (who is ranked lower than schools 4 and 5) rejected me. Guess not this year.
  2. Everyone is saying "Oh don't worry, you'll be okay". How the hell am I going to be okay when I've gotten REJECTED from 3 schools and I'm waiting on 2? When they ask how it's going, I'm restraining myself from doing the Homer-Bart Simpson choke >_>
  3. $350 in application fees $200 for the GRE $800 in GRE Prep $25 for an extra GRE score to be sent to a school I got rejected from So a whopping $1,375 that I had no help in paying for (yay financial responsibility...not). That's over a single paycheck for me sadly :/ And if I don't get in this year, that's just a ton of money I might as well have thrown into a bonfire
  4. Okay so I have hope for you yet. I pretty much had the same thing happen to me but I started out in Biology before I found my spark again in Psychology. I graduated with both Bachelors May 2013 however, the damage done to my GPA (Yay for a cumulative of 2.7) was hard to fix. I also share the same background (multilingual, latina, minority research interests, etc.) so I can definitely see where you are coming from. So what do you do when your GPA is craptastic and you want to pursue Psychology? You take off for a bit and pursue a research internship or job! For what you don't have in booksmarts, you will have the opportunity to show in your practical skills and actual work experience. Granted it's going to be a tough battle, but it's not truly over for you. Find a mentor who shares your interests and start out as a volunteer and help out just to gain experience. I did that and I think that in all honesty, it has become preparation for the future when you begin to get poster presentations, symposia, and talks under your belt. You can put things like that on your CV so it will definitely help. Additionally, a good GRE score will bolster you up too! I did a-okay on mine (V-156,Q-149,AW-5.5) even though my practice scores were tons higher but it was above, as GradApplicant201420 said, the 70th percentile for each section. Make sure your heart is in the right place for wanting to go to grad school. If you have the passion for it and get a research opportunity, it will show. Plus you're not alone- there's more of us than you know who are in the same boat and hoping that we'll get lucky. I wish the best of luck to you and I hope what little input you get here helps
  5. I feel you. I've been feeling that for the last few weeks. The worst part is when you see their stuff and you know you're clearly more qualified than them yet here you are. >_>
  6. Working my 40+hrs a week job in research and then working out a total of 8 hours every week in an effort to convince myself eating my feelings out is not a valid way of coping.
  7. I'm in the same boat, though for Psychology. Haven't heard anything from my last 2 schools sadly. But, we have until April 1 before we REALLY need to freak out I guess.
  8. Thanks guys, this really helps. Btw I found an email in my spam from UT Knoxville and it was a no. I mean, I'm not a fantastic match in that my GPA wasn't stellar however, I have serious research experience in the field i.e. 6 poster presentations, 1 invited talk, trained in 4 different developmental assessments, coordinated 9 different internal research projects, coordinated 2 external research projects, etc. Oh and 2 Bachelors (Psych and Bio). If not this year, I'll wait and continue working my research job.
  9. Okay so I applied to 5 schools in Developmental Psychology Ph.D. and Experimental Psychology Ph.D. with the Developmental focus: 1.University of Michigan Ann Arbor 2.University of Illinois Urbana Champaign 3.University of Kentucky 4.University of Tennessee Knoxville 5.Vanderbilt I've gotten rejection emails from U of M and UIUC but heard NOTHING from the rest. I have a had correspondence with a professor I know at UT Knoxville and it seems they begun reviewing apps the last week of January but I've heard nothing from them or the other 2 schools left on my list. I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 people here on gradcafe get interviews/acceptance emails/calls from these schools. Since I've heard nothing, should I assume I didn't get in this year? Or should I be happy that I've not gotten a rejection email?
