  1. I am seeing a ton of Chicago rejects on the results page..I haven't received anything...anyone in the same situation?
  2. Check out Princeton's security studies at the Woodrow Wilson School http://wws.princeton.edu/graduate-academics/curriculum/phd-curriculum
  3. Same here...I had to ask personally (UCLA) ...who knows when we will find out @pbnwhey do you recall how much the award is? Best of luck to both of us!!
  4. Yeah im super concerned...lets keep each other posted on funding negotiations with our departments. When are you visiting ucla?
  5. yeah, mine is just under 20 k and that's ridiculous I will try to negotiate it
  6. No, going during march 10-11 ! Excited but I am worried about surviving in LA with the funding package I received.
  7. accepted for PhD in poli sci!
  8. Does anyone know how wait lists usually work? is it by field or is there one for the entire program?
  9. Yeah I mean congrats to whoever got it, but I am here biting my nails hoping to get closure and nope, looks like I'll wait for a couple of weeks or so. Sigh, I just want it to be all over. I am also waiting on a couple of fellowships I applied for but hey, at least t you get acceptances or rejections around the same time you don't have to wait weeks or months for the "no" haha! Patience gotta have patience....
  10. What's up with the Columbia admit??? Anyone claim the recent admit? Says that they checked website and got a fully funded ad. offer? I tried to check my account and its still listed as "submitted" I know I am most likely reject but I want some closure
  11. Thanks, hopefully that can bump me up the list !!!
  12. Hey what field are you? I am comparative Congrats on being on the wait list!! But looks like you already have amazing admissions from great schools! Do you have a preference over any of the programs you have heard from? I got my eyes set on UCLA but still considering Cornell if taken off the wait list.
  13. Waitlisted from Cornell. Gives off the impression that the list is very short. Slightly disappointed but already have admission to a top school so I am not too sad about it.
  14. This person is actually in a different field but told me that his research interests are similar to mine and that we could benefit from working together. Again, this is something rare and I wouldn't worry if you didn't receive an email.
  15. Yes Cornell is meeting today regarding admissions so we should be hearing fairly soon. Been contacted by a potential POI and thats how I know what's going on.
  16. Just waiting on Cornell at this point AKA my dream school...the fit is great...let's just hope they send acceptances/rejections this week (although most likely we will get them next week). And the worst part is that after march I'll be waiting for news regarding other fellowships I applied for. Gah, patience...gotta have patience..
  17. Because despite the fact that gaining a PhD will not offer me a 6 unit salary, I can't imagine doing anything else. For me, a PhD is a way to change ideas and theories...while doing something practical on the side (teaching). I will be attending this Fall and while I am a little nervous because it means living near the poverty line for the next 5-7 years, I am excited to do something that none of my immediate family members have had the opportunity to do. Its hard especially since my family has never been financially stable (kind of tired of not never having enough money to do necessary things)...but really, I can't imagine going to law school or getting my MPP...I guess I always take the hard road!

I am thinking of accepting my offer a UCLA...any advice on finding reasonably priced studio appts? After living with roommates for a while, I've come to the conclusion that I am more comfortable living by myself. I own a car but would rather have a short commute (and possibly take public transportation).
  19. so...does anyone know when we should be hearing back?
  20. This is the most realistic comment I've read in a while and thanks for being so down to earth. To be honest, I didn't have the best test scores (I'm surprised I even got into a top 10 program), and I think you nailed it with " treating failure in a calm manner because this is just the beginning of the game. Throughout the PhD program, we will face rejection countless of times for grants and the like despite our sleepless nights or hard work. In the end, I think I learned that I need to do things for "myself" and whatever the outcome is...it is for the best. It is a lesson learned, even if it cost me an ivy league offer. I am still slightly sad about Columbia and Princeton but I'm sure I'll be fine. The weird thing is that there appears to be some people clearly rejected from Princeton but some of us haven't gotten even that...which makes me think "oh, maybe they will give me a chance!" either way, I'm moving on. I suppose I really just wanted a change of scenery (been in so cal all my life) but UCLA's program is top notch and I should be extremely grateful since many people would kill to be in the position I am. These past few months have been insane, and the worst part already happened. Anyways, sleep well everyone, let's hope that the rest of you get your dream school's admission offer (if you haven't already) !
  21. Does anyone know why the programs send rejections and acceptances separately? It seems rather cruel that they send rejection emails one month after acceptances or so. Didn't hear anything from Columbia or Princeton...not too upset since I got into UCLA but Columbia was sort of my dream school...and now waiting for Cornell. So far this hasn't been my week...
  22. Yes, I applied to a couple of fellowships so I am hoping I get at least one of them to supplement this award.
