Does having a dog make this process all the more complicated/ expensive? Also, my stipend is 28k, with the possibility of another 11k after the first year if I teach. Is that enough?

Hello Everyone, How feasible is it to make NYU work on a stipend? While I love the school, I've been warned that it would be really tight. I’ll have a stipend with the possibility of other fellowships and the change to supplement with teaching. Secondary question, If I was to go with NYU, what are some great areas to consider searching for housing? Really any thoughts on NY and grad school would be appreciated.

My recommendation would be to straight up ask LeMon or Strawn about job placement. As for Newsom, Yeah...she's retiring this year, which is why I'm headed elsewhere (DSS is my main interest). LeMon and Strawn are definitely known for their iconography research, but they’re both doing interesting research outside that area. Personally, I also think Jacob Wright is brilliant. Where are your interests in HB?

I can answer questions about Emory! It's a fabulous program. Joel LeMon, Brent Strawn and Jacob Wright are all amazing and they really invest in their students. Several of my fellow alumni have remarked that other doctoral programs don’t quite compare in terms of practical prep and investment.

I applied to NYU and I don't think they interview, but I've also heard they're still in the decision making process.

Hello Everyone, I’m deciding between Candler (where I received 75% tuition) and YDS (where I received 55% tuition, and where it’s more expensive to live ). YDS has the MARc in Second Temple and John Collins, but the MTS at Candler does have Holladay and Newsom. However, I’m concerned about Candler’s placement in top tier Ph.D. programs? (Specifically in New Testament/ Early Judaism programs). Should this be a concern? I’ve been hearing different things. Is anyone one here familiar with the Second Temple MARc at YDS?
