^ I am pretty sure they are not.

^ While unlikely, it seems to be mathematically possible to get the exact same number of questions right and wrong in two different sittings of the GRE.

To clarify, you're getting the SLPA degree then applying to master's programs in SLP?

Personal statement question

^ Similar to undergraduate schools and the Common App, some schools apparently have a Supplemental Application to the CDSCAS. -
Personal statement question

My best guess for this is that UoP offers classes in all aspects of SLP, and does not focus. Therefore, they want students with a broad range of interests. -
Personal statement question

I was at an info session for University of the Pacific. They do NOT like students who come in with a specific focus. The way they see it, undergrads have not taken the courses and externships to know what they want to do, especially for out of fielders like us. I am finding the personal statement hard, since I have a specific focus in mind. -
Anyone Who Was Accepted to CSU Fresno...

Makes sense! I am looking at CA colleges and Fresno State wasn't on my radar at all. Not sure if I'm interested in the deaf route though, I prefer the educational route done in SJSU. -
I don't, but you can always PM me a draft for proofreading. I'm applying this year but can help give input on readability etc.

Out of curiosity, what draws you to Fresno State? -
The way I see it you have two options: 1. Major in CDS and apply to grad school in field. 2. Major in something else, take prereqs, and apply to grad school in field. Alternatively, you could apply out of field. This option seems to take at least another year than option 1. The other option I can think of is double majoring/minoring, but I do not know if that is feasible in CDS.

I probably have no hope....but I want to try.

^ I think it depends on the school. Some schools weight postbac units a lot more, some schools look at last 60 including postbac, and some look at everything. -

I am also applying this year, and have a low GPA (2.9 cumulative, 3.4 without my first year as an engineering major). If your low GPA classes were in something completely unrelated, some grad schools (e.g. University of the Pacific) claim to look less at grades if GRE/later grades/personal statements are good. Also if you need leveling courses, and you do very well in them, that looks great as well. -
Less competitive schools in major cities?
Chandru1 replied to onedayslp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I was talking about University of the Pacific, which focuses equally on medical and schools. Since it is nowhere near the Pacific, it is cheap to live there. I don't think they have a research focus there at all. -

CA schools focus on teaching instead of research, so they're not high on US news. I went to the UoP info session and they are quite a good program. -

The only one in SF proper is SF State (US news ranks it second best in CA). San Jose State is in vibrant downtown SJ and just 30 minutes from SF (also SJ is a bigger city than SF), CSU East Bay is in the Hayward hills near Berkeley, and Sacramento State and university of the Pacific are both over an hour away from SF in the Central Valley. -
If I got in there, I'd prob live in a far area of sf like the outer sunset or Daly City. But WAY too premature lol.

I'm going to their info session in late September. I can tell you at that time.

I would love to go to a top 10 school, or one in a state like CA or NY. But given how ridiculously competitive it is, I do not think I can. Instead of applying to many schools with <10% admit rates, should I apply to schools with 25-30% admit rates (don't want to name names, but I can if it would help)? I am just really stressed out about getting into a graduate program, and would like to maximize my chances. I am just wondering if graduating from a no name school would hurt my preparation/career in any way. Or is it like branding, where I don't need to go to a Mercedes school because plenty of Hyundai schools exist?

I was just at the University of the Pacific's info session, and they appear to look at applications holistically.
