  1. ^ While unlikely, it seems to be mathematically possible to get the exact same number of questions right and wrong in two different sittings of the GRE.
  2. To clarify, you're getting the SLPA degree then applying to master's programs in SLP?
  3. ^ Similar to undergraduate schools and the Common App, some schools apparently have a Supplemental Application to the CDSCAS.
  4. My best guess for this is that UoP offers classes in all aspects of SLP, and does not focus. Therefore, they want students with a broad range of interests.
  5. I was at an info session for University of the Pacific. They do NOT like students who come in with a specific focus. The way they see it, undergrads have not taken the courses and externships to know what they want to do, especially for out of fielders like us. I am finding the personal statement hard, since I have a specific focus in mind.
  6. Makes sense! I am looking at CA colleges and Fresno State wasn't on my radar at all. Not sure if I'm interested in the deaf route though, I prefer the educational route done in SJSU.
  7. I don't, but you can always PM me a draft for proofreading. I'm applying this year but can help give input on readability etc.
  8. The way I see it you have two options: 1. Major in CDS and apply to grad school in field. 2. Major in something else, take prereqs, and apply to grad school in field. Alternatively, you could apply out of field. This option seems to take at least another year than option 1. The other option I can think of is double majoring/minoring, but I do not know if that is feasible in CDS.
  9. I have no idea, but I really do not want to apply there now, with pretty much every school offering a 100% employment rate. I am sure job prospects would be hindered by graduating from a school on probation...
  10. ^ I think it depends on the school. Some schools weight postbac units a lot more, some schools look at last 60 including postbac, and some look at everything.
  11. I am also applying this year, and have a low GPA (2.9 cumulative, 3.4 without my first year as an engineering major). If your low GPA classes were in something completely unrelated, some grad schools (e.g. University of the Pacific) claim to look less at grades if GRE/later grades/personal statements are good. Also if you need leveling courses, and you do very well in them, that looks great as well.
  12. If you're interested in a M.Ed with an SLP focus (allows you to work as an SLP just like an MA in SLP), look at San Jose State. Cal State San Marcos also has an educational focus.
  13. I was talking about University of the Pacific, which focuses equally on medical and schools. Since it is nowhere near the Pacific, it is cheap to live there. I don't think they have a research focus there at all.
  14. CA schools focus on teaching instead of research, so they're not high on US news. I went to the UoP info session and they are quite a good program.
  15. The only one in SF proper is SF State (US news ranks it second best in CA). San Jose State is in vibrant downtown SJ and just 30 minutes from SF (also SJ is a bigger city than SF), CSU East Bay is in the Hayward hills near Berkeley, and Sacramento State and university of the Pacific are both over an hour away from SF in the Central Valley.
  16. If I got in there, I'd prob live in a far area of sf like the outer sunset or Daly City. But WAY too premature lol.
  17. I'm going to their info session in late September. I can tell you at that time.
  18. Thank you all! I'll be sure to apply to grad schools that I'm actually interested in (not just top ranked or easy to get into), and hopefully that'll give good results...
  19. I would love to go to a top 10 school, or one in a state like CA or NY. But given how ridiculously competitive it is, I do not think I can. Instead of applying to many schools with <10% admit rates, should I apply to schools with 25-30% admit rates (don't want to name names, but I can if it would help)? I am just really stressed out about getting into a graduate program, and would like to maximize my chances. I am just wondering if graduating from a no name school would hurt my preparation/career in any way. Or is it like branding, where I don't need to go to a Mercedes school because plenty of Hyundai schools exist?
  20. Marquette is on the list? I was planning to apply there (they were mentioned on NPR due to their scooby doo accent research), so it sounded like a fun school, but I guess not...
  21. I was just at the University of the Pacific's info session, and they appear to look at applications holistically.
  22. Portland State and UO-Eugene just want an undergrad degree, GPA is not looked at. I am thinking of combining my two options but am having trouble deciding how many 3 year programs to apply to.
