  1. So I admit I haven't read the entire thread but want to share my thoughts to OP: you're in grad school to learn; who cares what other people think. Wrt your image, "those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." If you're converned about your health, you could always take a beginners yoga class, or join a health initiatives campus club. Start small and reward yourself
  2. never: - rode a bike - smoked or done drugs - pulled an all-nighter
  3. - university portal - university sublet page (group pages on facebook) - kijiji - asked friends of friends
  4. Buy: sugar or cane sugar (even better!) Avoid: Splenda and aspartame - supposedly toxic Buy: sweetened greek yoghurt Avoid: unsweetened greek yoghurt - just tastes plain nasty, unless you like cottage cheese Buy: frozen fruits and veggies Avoid: canned fruits and veggies (excess sugar/ sodium/ preservatives) Buy: Safeway sandwiches Avoid: Subway (stretchy plastic additive to dough, and > 2,000 calories in some sandwiches)
  5. Bacon. Not for any religious purposes, just hate the smell and the texture.
  6. Black coffee.
  7. mornings. ugh.
  8. 1. PR Specialist (close to my field of study) 2. People and Change management - Consulting 3. International Relations (not really close) 4. Interpol (not even close to my field of study. Also, might need to learn Arabic) 5. Broadway Actor/ actor in indie film
  9. Yiruma - river flows in you. anything by Alexandre Desplat or Lindsay Stirling.
  10. Yes a good travel buddy would be nice! My close friends either all have full time jobs now (entry-level grueling work) or are in grad school. Our schedules just don't seem to sync.
  11. I dunno... sounds kinda sketchy =P Have you or do you have friends who have tried this
  12. Jenste, could you please tell me more about those classes in Guatemala? Is there a set time for departure, or is it year-round? I wouldn't mind learning Spanish. Currently I'm trying to learn some French.
  13. I wanted to move to NYC before I got accepted into my grad program. But I wanted to go for naive reasons, mainly because I thought living in the city would be so glamorous. Anyways, my friend who works for a consulting firm there told me that getting paid 60K would be considered a low salary and advised me to go once I had more job experience so that I didn't have to get an entry-level position. I don't want to put a damper on your dreams, but maybe consider working and going to the MFA program part time, so that you'd actually have some money to enjoy the Big Apple once you're there.
  14. Thanks for the responses! I should clarify: I wouldn't mind traveling alone if I feel that I can be safe (safety is a huge concern!) and if I had a better sense of direction... I'm completely fine with going to the beach by myself or even going to any big city in the country. But I guess I have issues traveling outside the country alone since I can no longer rely heavily on my phone if I get lost =P It would also be nice to have someone to talk to during the trip, especially if I am going somewhere with language barriers. And unfortunately, I don't have the funds to do an immersive language course (I've looked into several), but that is definitely something that I would want to do. I'm very good at having conversations with new people, but find it hard to trust strangers.
  15. When I'm single, I really want to travel. And when I want to travel, I have no one to travel with. (I'm an independent woman, but am not comfortable to go traveling alone). Who's with me? What have you done?
