  1. Maybe not in a very specialized way, but you can use geophysics even if you're doing a master in geology. I've seen a lot of thesis with seismic interpretation, seismic inversion and rock physics from geologists. It seems to me that you're more interested in geophysics, so it might be good for you to see how much of them you could use in the geology schools, which cost even less than half in the case 1.

I've been tempted by far west, but I really don't like that I'd do 40 minutes commure or more to my school at the UT. Is google maps right or is it just in the worst case scenario? Also, how difficult really is to find parking near the UT (UT pass), is there any schedules where you can find one spot easily or is it always full?
  3. Read articles related to your field, take online courses, watch videos of stuff you have forgotten or you're not that strong. That's what I've been doing. I enrolled to the Stanford course of Reservoir Geomechanics and have been reading a little to not get there clueless. There's a series of videos from the UT Austin in Reservoir Geomechanics (PPE 338 I think) and Advanced Geomechanics, you can watch those and take notes, etc.
  4. Maybe there's less awareness of the forums from people applying?
  5. Congratulations on the acceptance! I also applied to UH, and still haven't received anything. In the search page usually by now some acceptances were posted in past years but it seems they are late this year.
  6. Thank you for your response. And yes, that's why I'm a little cautious of applying before going. But I've managed to plan a trip in may to see some of the apartments. Also, do you think it would be safer if the agent is from a well known real state company?
  7. Hello everyone. Have any of you payed the application fee for an apartment without having looked at it? I'm moving to Austin from Mexico and there's always a recommendation in sites about not paying anything if there's no personal contact, but I don't know if that applies for application fees and credit check fees (I can't believe they charge that). How have you done your leasing process from abroad? Thanks
  8. Maybe this could help... http://www.quora.com/How-good-is-the-University-of-Wyoming-for-petroleum-engineering Anyway, it seems that it's good but maybe not as famous as others, BUT if oil and gas companies go and recruit there it is a good thing. Also you could look at the publications made by your POI, it may not be the best University but maybe your POI is prolific in his publications or does research in a subject you are interested in. * It also says in one page that their campus is not safe so maybe you should look that up.
  9. Well, I hope you get it. Good luck!
  10. Sorry to hear that. But it's good that you look for useful stuff to do and that will help you in the future.
  11. I registered a couple of days ago and I just saw that you posted it. It looks good. Are you registering?
  12. I think this is it, there's a section for posgraduate studies. I hope it helps http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/
  13. Yes, I have been in it but I don't remember the name right now, I ran into it when looking into Aberdeen and Imperial College programs. There's also the IHOP part here, I think they talk about international universities, check it out.
  14. Physics major... that explains it. I hope I feel the same with the courses I take.
  15. Congratulations! What classes did you take or are you taking? I'm worried that it'll be hard, but maybe it won't be as hard as I think
  16. Anyone here has the livescribe pen? is it worth it? I'm thinking that a cheaper way would be to use a sound recorder app in my phone and a scanner to digitize my notes. What do you think?
  17. Why do you think that? I've seen in the search results that there are some acceptances in march, in late march things get mixed between acceptances and rejections.
  18. That was the moment when I was 100% I wanted to be a geophysicist.
  19. Thanks but it was more focused to tell you guys that they're starting to change that page so check it up!
  20. UT's admissions office sent the acceptance email today, and changed the UT direct page. How was the prospective weekend for the people that went to Austin?
  21. I wish I could go to the weekend. I would like to meet some people before starting, talk with my POI, other students, and get a possible roomate, rents are so high in Austin.
  22. Yup, stress stress stress, probably has the same response saved to just copy and paste, lol Maybe they don't want to reject any prospective students until they are sure all spots are filled. Maybe they do send rejections but just to students that reall don't meet their criteria.
  23. Yes, it was a mail, my ut direct page is still in review. Phil told me (before acceptance) that they would be done by march. I don't really know what you could do since you already contacted Phil and contacting your POI is apparently not right. I wish all of you got your news faster, sorry.
