2015 Applicant Profiles and Admissions Results
GeoMex replied to InquilineKea's topic in Earth Sciences Forum
My mistake, 92 admitted and 68 enrolled in 2012. http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/prospective/stats/pdf/counts-by-major2012.pdf And these are their GPA and GRE scores http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/prospective/stats/pdf/avg-gpa-gre-2012.pdf And probably they do have an order according to what you mentioned, and just some of the best MSc candidates receive an early acceptance, who knows. I'm still wondering how many have been accepted by now. -

Another invitation to the UT campus was posted yesterday... Every day less and less chances and spots available, I wonder how many of the approx. 60 spots have been given. -
In my rejection this year, they told me a general reason as to why I might have been rejected, since they can't tell you really.

It's gone to the point of checking it every 10 minutes like if something would be different, and then I realize what I'm doing and stop it, but it's getting to me, I think after next week I'm going to lose my sh....

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now, I guess there's nothing more to it but just read it. Thank you

Does anyone have any tips for studying stuff you forgot from your undergrad after being out so many years? I realized there's some things I've forgotten or don't remember well and need to review them and re-learn/remember them. Anyone have any tips for this? (besides the obvious reading and reading)

Who sends the invitations? the POI or the department? or both? Everyone's getting invited, this just makes my paranoia that my POI forgot about me stronger. -

Anyone that applied to the UT have been in contact to their POI recently? I keep having this fear that he'll forget about me if someone asks him about my application. -

When I talked woth some people there they told me that even when they don't have a minimum, 320 between Q and V or more is preferable. -

Yup. impatience is kind of building again on me, after the rejections I calmed down, but now I know it's about time they start sending decisions out again. -

That makes sense since my coworker did an Msc before, but since I didn't know anything about how the PhD work, just that it takes about 5 years to finish it, I asked him what the difference was, what courses did he take, etc. he said you practically take the same courses and some more, everything else is just research or thesis work, something like that. So maybe my company just gives you 3 years because they assume you already did your Msc. thanks Geodude -

The question was more focused into doing the 3 years PhD (that's the time my company gives to do one) rather than a 2 year MSc, but it's not that important, it was just a matter of benefits, I'd rather get the PhD now than just the MSc, or have to go out again which I'd probably couldn't. -

Does anybody know if once you're in the program you can change it from MSc to PhD? is there a way? -

I think that's because deadlines vary between schools, there still are schools that are receiving applications. -

I think like all the other years results show, there's a first wave of acceptances for the best candidates, and then the real reviewing and comparison between them start, so it takes more time. -

Hopefully, and thank you. It'd be great to read that everyone got into their preferred Universities. -

Thank you, I appreciate your view of my situation, but I'm still worried for some things. It's up to the admissions committee to decide and I hope they think as you do.
