  1. I'm optimistic because I just have to be, but I really can't say if my chances are good. Still I'm axious as fuck. I hope I hear from UT before, hopefully in february. My other two options are still accepting applications so it'll be another extra month or two to hear from them. Mine says the same, I know results start in late january, but I didn't know if interviews were before or after giving notice of acceptance. They're also my top choice, hopefully we'll both get in.
  2. Does anyone know if UT Austin sends interview requests? If so, have anyone applying there received one yet?
  3. Oh! man, this is me right now. And as an international student I think is somehow worst because I'm not familiarized with the system. Will I get an interview? Do I need one to get in? what if I dontt get one? when do they send those? aaagh!
  4. If they don't sent interview request does it mean you didn't make it? or does it depent on each school?
  5. I'm getting so anxious, I don't know if the Unis I applied to send interview mails. The earlist date I've seen in the results is Jan 17, which is close, most of them are in february, but I'm still getting so anxious. All three of them have 1 month separate deadlines so if I get bad news from the first I'll have to wait one month to know from the next one.
  6. That's great, congratulations on your acceptance.
  7. Is it common for international students to not get an interview, even by phone or mail? if you do get one, is it after the deadlines or any time? I'm worrying that since I've not anything about interviews it's a bad sign, although I think just one of the Universities I applied to has passed the deadline.
  8. I think some people here need a new vision of things... or maybe grad school is really that important to them. When I was younger (I'm still am I think) I was a little like this, to this day I still am sometimes, and it's not because I don't trust my skills or that I'm actually worried, is just that I need information to know what to do, if I get in, that's excellent, if I don't, well then I can do other things I'm planning to do after grad school. Anyway, I too get anxious sometimes, but I gain nothing from it and it just interferes with my job. Working, excercising, reading, playing video games, watching series or movies, hang out with friends or SO, it all can help to those of you that are very anxious.
  9. Wow! that sounds like shit. I hope it turn out well and they are not this irresponsible all the time.
  10. It sounds like there could be a problem with their emails. in 2013 when I tried to contact some of the Universities my company had some changes in domain and stuff, so my email was conflicted betweeen the new one and the last one, all supposed to be linked for sending or receiving but apparently something went up and I didn't received anything, so when I contacted them with my personal account some of them were kind of upset because I didn't know that I had the problem which to my deffense it was only with external emails.
  11. Lol, I know it's a great place, that's why I applied there . I see your PhD worked great for you
  12. Thank you for your kind words, it really is heartwarming to read them. Thank you also for the good wishes, and I will post as I get the information.
  13. Yes, I'm applying to US grad schools. I'm aware of how friendly US Americans are, however my concern is towards academics and adjustment to the city and its ways. Your comment about your experience calms me, I'm sure it will be a great experience and hopefully I'll accomplish my goals.
  14. Hello everyone! I'm 27, not old maybe, but It's been 5 years since I finished college and when (if) enrolled I'll have 5 years working. Somehow I feel rusty in the theory of my field but I feel I have an upper hand in the practical part. Althought theory is probably more important when studying. Also I'm a little worried about being international, I don't know if I'll keep the pace with the others.
  15. I started my "research" since 2013 but since I got my company's "green light" last year, I didn't apply then. I read a lot and had to cut my universities from like 9 options to 3. And I think there are more like us that worry about those catastrophic flaws, specially with my LOR because my writters could have not understood exactly how the process was or they could have errors with their writting in English, etc. I hope you get in!
  16. I submitted mine in november thinking it would help to do it earlier, I rushed some things and seeing how everyone did it in december I felt dumb and also foolishly I thought I could get some news before the deadline, bad logic.
  17. I tried not to think much about it, I read some examples about what's supposed to had and did it. I think I spent like 2 hours total in it and some more waiting for friends in the field to check it out.
  18. You guys make me think I didn't put enough time on my SOP, even when I don't see how could one spend more than a day writting a 2 page document. Anyway, like Crystalline_Sunlight said, there's nothing more to do, just bear the anxiety of waiting for an answer. I wish all of you success in the admissions process.
  19. What I did, although it might have been rushed, is that I change the writer, I wanted to submit 2 academic LOR and one from my work, but since that particular professor wouldn't even respond to say that he's busy, I changed him for one from work (my project leader actually). I know he was busy, I contacted him over the phone and even then he didn't say he would take so much time. I was sorry because he was my thesis supervisor in college, but I gave him like 2 months notice, he said he would do it, and still he didn't make the effort. My only writer from college not only is busier than him, but also submitted his letter a few days after I asked him. Anyway, I guess in your case as the others said you'll be fine.
  20. Thank you. Kind of what I was thinking (except that I don't know if it would be that easy if a Professor accepted), but since I'm not familiar with how the US Universities work, I felt like I may have misunderstood.
  21. Maybe it is a language thing and what I'm trying to say is not what is coming out. Or maybe I didn't understand their positive response. But yeah, basically I exposed my situation and actually it seems like they said to you is what they said to me. I don't see it as weird as you do, and since I already have funding, and data provided by my company and a thesis subject, and one of them was the thesis supervisor of a colleague that just finished his PhD and wrote one of my letters of recommendation, maybe that's the reason they don't see much problem supervising my thesis work if I get in. It's not that big of deal either, you do your thesis work and they just watch that you go in the right direction and clear some doubts when needed. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
  22. Also some Universities ask you to contact the faculty for this purpose. While you apply you should already have at least an idea of someone to supervise you in your project. I don't see how that's inappropriate. That way you can also know if you would be wasting your time applying yo a program where no one would be able or willing to help you, and since my graduate studies are being sponsored by a government fund, I think they should know the situation beforehand and see if even then they would accept me.
  23. It's an acceptance to supervise me IF I get into the program, just once I get into the program, not before.
  24. Yes, I have. I contacted a Professor and explained my situation (Industry-sponsored, work experienced, etc.). He accepted to be my thesis supervisor and told me to put that in my SOP. Equally in UH I got one of the most respected Professors (at least in the industry) to accept me, but I had already submitted my SOP when he answered, nonetheless the Program Coordinator was informed that IF I got accepted that would be the situation. The only School where I didn't get an answer is CSM.
