  1. So, I have been procrastinating on my application to Penn. I should probably send this thing out.... haha
  2. Harvard alludes to a pseudo-cutoff tho... "If your GRE scores are significantly low (i.e., below 460 V, 580 Q, and 3.5 AW), your chances for admission will be greatly reduced." Those scores are painfully low so I couldn't see it being an issue for many applicants.
  3. Thank you both for the advice! Fortunately, I have time to think this over because my decision rests on my admission...
  4. My financial situation is odd too: I am well positioned to receive a job offer from Discovery Channel upon the completion of my internship. It's such a terrific company. However, I am drawn to the field education and the promise of using my skills to develop programming which could improve academic achievement. Should I pass on a paid position with Discovery Channel for debt at HGSE? Assuming that I am accepted...
  5. Personally, I think it's terrific to see someone with classroom experience applying to TIE. You would undoubtedly enrich conversations about technology in the classroom. I know they construct the cohort based on people with complimentary talents and backgrounds, so I think you're well positioned for a spot! The executive director of the non-prof organization I work for is an alumna of HGSE... She offered to put my in contact with some TIE alums. I will definitely ask him or her about their cohort! As for stalking... You can utilize Google to search Linkedin.com for students and alumni. Go to Google.com then type in site:linkedin.com NAME OF PROGRAM. You can browse through public profiles and check out their stats lol Pretty neat For instance: https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=site:linkedin.com++technology+innovation%2C+and+education+2011&pbx=1&oq=site:linkedin.com++technology+innovation%2C+and+education+2011&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=35195l35788l4l35907l5l5l0l0l0l0l89l352l5l5l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=d4b94d499f010a2d&biw=1680&bih=847 I searched "site:linkedin.com technology innovation, and education 2011"
  6. Did you read through the TIE handbook? They outlined three strands within the program: Design and development of educational technologies, Transformation of education with new technologies, and Research, evaluation, and assessment. Just curious which interested you the most lol

Great advice, FutureED. I would double check your transcript receipt to ensure it was sent to correct address too.
  8. Good luck to everyone! I believe the doctoral decisions are made in advance of March too. Which strand of TIE are you most interested in? I already have undergraduate experience in educational technology design, so I plan to focus on the Research, evaluation, and assessment stand.
  9. I absolutely hate when people bump their own posts... But, I am dying to find out who else applied?!
  10. I decided to waive my rights to the letters -- it was an easy decision. Fortunately, I was able to read them because my recommenders all sent me attached copies haha
  11. I am very close to one of my recommenders... In fact, I just attended her wedding over the weekend. Guess who is on a honeymoon and hasn't submitted my letter of recommendation?! I am in quite the pickle.
  12. A handful of Educational Technology programs.. Stanford (LDT) UPenn (LST) Harvard (TIE) NYU (EDCT)
  13. It's definitely flattering to receive these messages Apparently, I am now a "priority applicant" at Drexel University. The admission's office redirected me to a streamlined application and waived the fee, so I cannot complain. *edit Do you think they received our unofficial scores? *second edit I just walked downstairs to check the mail... I received a signed letter from Drexel University lol
  14. First Attempt: 490V, 640Q, 3.5AWA Second Attempt (Revised): 700-750V, 700-750Q Keep your head up!
  15. Interesting find. I took the revised test two weeks ago and received 700-750Q, 700-750V. Yet, I don't see these score ranges on the chart? *edit For what it's worth, I am one-hundred percent certain these were my scores!
  16. Oh wow, the time has officially come... Who else is applying?! GRE Score (Revised): V 700-750, Q 700-750 AWA:? GPA: 3.85 Work Experience: Freelance Filmmaker: 4 Years, Academic Tutor: 3 Years, Manager/eTutor Ohio Learning Collaborative: 2 Years, Arts Educator: 1 Year, Discovery Channel Production Intern: 3 Months, Discovery Channel Education Intern: Starts Spring Semester Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): Small State University in Ohio Research Experience: 1) Researched and launched an online teaching collaborative called Informal Education 2) Working with Cleveland students on Participatory Action Research Project regarding the effects of school closure. I helped the students create a twenty minute documentary over the summer to relay their message to the public. We are going to present this video to various organizations in Cleveland. Applying for PhD or Masters: Masters, 2012 Program: Technology, Innovation, Education What Other Schools Are You Applying To: Stanford (LDT), Columbia (CCTE), NYU (EDCT), USC (Film MFA), UCLA (Film MFA), NYU (Film MFA)
  17. I am taking the Graduate Records Exam this weekend - very excited. I think this may calm your nerves.. . According to the Harvard Graduate School of Education website: The admission committee considers several different factors when making admission decisions, including your current/previous academic performance (e.g., GPA), statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation, in addition to your standardized test scores. Your GRE test scores are one important part of your application, and you should allow sufficient time to submit your best possible scores. We review them closely, because we have found that to some degree, those with strong scores are best positioned to succeed in graduate study at HGSE. If your GRE scores are significantly low (i.e., below 460 V, 580 Q, and 3.5 AW), your chances for admission will be greatly reduced. We have seen that the program can be quite challenging under these circumstances. In recent years, successful applicants with lower scores have presented compelling professional experience and provided evidence of demonstrated academic ability in other areas of the application. Please note that your scores are not the sole determinant of your admissibility. This means that strong scores do not guarantee admission, while weak scores do not automatically disqualify you. *edit I will definitely post an update on my GRE experience too!
  18. Thanks for the advice, tut. I am interested in developing videos to engage students in concepts that seem dry and unappealing. For instance, I plan on making a film in the coming weeks about myself approaching a cute girl and how that translates into writing an introductory paragraph. You know: start off interesting, avoid cliches, get to the point. Aside from video, I would like to work on educational programs like iPad applications. I could see teaming up with someone on the development of an interactive map to help kids learn and remember historical events. Or maybe developing a word processing application that collects data from students and makes suggestion about how to improve their writing skills? I am just very interested in this kinda stuff
  19. Hello everyone, Suppose I should start with my statistics... GRE Score: N/A GPA: 3.8 (Digital Media) Work Experience: One-to-one Academic Tutor: 2 Years, Developer/Tutor Ohio Learning Collaborative: 2 Years, Arts Educator: 1 Year, Discovery Channel Production Intern: 3 Months, Discovery Education Intern: Accepted offer for next Fall. Just applied to U.S. Department of Education (New Media) for June - July Undergrad Institution(Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): State University in Ohio Research Experience: Researched and developed my own online teaching collaborative, Informal Education: http://www.ejschilli...tfolio=lesson-3. Applying for PhD or Masters: Masters, 2013 Program: Educational Technology What Schools Are You Applying To: Oxford (MSC), Stanford (LDT), Harvard (TIE), Columbia (CCTE), NYU (EDCT) Unfortunately, I'm struggling to wrap my head around these five terrific programs. I won't bore you with my back story so suffice to say I am very interested in Educational Broadcasting and Technology... I fell in love with the Harvard Graduate School of Education after my informational meeting last Summer. Everyone was so kind and warm. Terrific course options too. Not to mention, I would have a direct connection to the MIT Media Lab! I find the Stanford (LDT) program appealing because it appears students' collaborate on their own research projects. Also, I may have an option to collaborate with the most talented computer programmers in the world. How cool is that? I'm drawn to Columbia & NYU because of their proximity to media industry in New York City. For instance, I would love to hold an internship with the Sesame Workshop. Cause they aren't returning my phones call at the moment... Any additional information about these programs or advice would be greatly appreciated! Best, Eric
  20. I hope to meet motivated, like-minded people who are interested in starting an education initiative, so I am more than willing to take out a loan in pursuit of this dream...
  21. For the sake of clarity, I would contact the Admissions Office... You're probably fine tho
  22. Doubt a four-hour test will overshadow your devotion and experience in the field If I may ask: Why HGSE?
  23. Best of luck to all! I will apply to Harvard (TIE) and Stanford (LDT) next fall. I’m currently majoring in Film and Digital Media with a minor in Political Science. I have a background in both education and technology. My experience in the field of education is limited due to my age. I tutor four students, three times a week in Mathematics. I also help students with English, Political Science and Communications in our Walk in Tutoring room. It’s extremely satisfying to help out fellow classmates. In my free-time, I film digital media tutorials online for programs such as Photoshop and 3ds Max. Although, my pride and joy is the new eTutoring platform we’re developing for the university. It will debut this semester to all 25,000 students! One of my jobs is to create interactive lessons to supplement the website. I’ve noticed that every semester students come and ask me the same questions. My thought was to create videos that tackle these common problems.
