  1. University of Waiting Too Long...ha. I received one from USC, or maybe it was Minnesota? I can't even remember now but I thought the same as you. It's like "Haha, here's something to connect you to the school. We'll see if you actually need it!"
  2. And suddenly the cops are at your door.
  3. Similar situation here. I've spent most of the money I saved just working the first few years out of high school (+ have now hit a limit on my credit card) while completing my undergrad. I didn't take the subject GRE test because I couldn't afford it so I wasn't able to apply to any schools that required the subject test. Luckily I've been granted fee waivers at most places I applied. I ended up asking my parents to loan me money for one application (ugh, embarrassing when you're in your late 20s...) which luckily they had no problem with. I'm kind of terrified of not getting in anywhere this year because I'm not sure I can afford another application cycle unless I score an awesome job after graduation. I guess only time will tell.
  4. My parents have been pretty mellow about this entire thing (and even listened to me rant about temp lab job prospects incase I don't get in anywhere this year!) but my friends on the other hand... None of my close friends have applied or gone to graduate school other than law school. They seem to think because I have all this research experience/excitement about what I'm doing that I'm a guaranteed acceptance. I've started prefacing my graduate school & moving talk with "in the event I'm even accepted anywhere..." with some and just flat out stopped talking about it with others. I'm nervous enough without having to constantly explain why I'm nervous. (But I'm so thankful for my lab mates and current grad students I know who have been so great during this whole process!)
  5. I reviewed my applications before submitting them but refuse to look again while waiting to hear back. Don't torture yourself! You're human, little errors happen.
  6. Are there any other Clark applicants here? Clark is the only school I haven't heard a single thing from since before I submitted my application, it seems bizarre.
  7. I saw mention of clinical invites being out already but social invites have been sent out now too? Crap...
  8. I've been doing that for a lot of schools but then more schools start. It never ends... (How many law schools are there?!?! Ha.)
  9. In addition to PhD programs I've also applied to a single law school. The LSAC site is universal across all law schools so EVERYONE has my info. I've been receiving 5+ emails a day for a month from law schools (most of which I've never even heard of) urging me to apply or offer me application fee waivers. So many are from "The Admissions Office at..." and I panic every single time. It's putting me on edge so much at this point that I'm starting to wish I hadn't applied to a joint degree program with a law school.
  10. After a promising email exchange and Skype conversation, my POI said "I'm not sure you will even need to do a formal interview." There are SO many things that could mean and I've spent a month thinking about that line. Shoot me now. Ha.
  11. Hahaha... every time I've gotten a call from a number I don't recognize I Google the area code immediately. If it isn't an area where I've applied to graduate school, I don't even bother listening to the voicemail that day. It's going to be a long month...
  12. When I emailed a potential POI they were very forward (and also somewhat jokingly) honest about the fact they tried to Google me and couldn't find anything because my name is so generic. I found it really amusing especially since I wasn't expecting that kind of honestly at all. I had a Skype conversation with another last month and they mentioned looking me up online too. Seems pretty standard, at least from my experience so far. (Or maybe the people willing to strike up conversations online are also those willing to research people online?...who knows.)
  13. I haven't heard anything back yet either. This weekend I made myself stop checking the application site to see if the status had made anymore changes. Sending good vibes to all of you other USC applicants, hopefully we hear soon!
  14. Similar question... Should I crop my unofficial score report to exclude the list of all of the places I have sent my scores to? I feel a little strange about telling schools I am applying to all of the places I am applying.
  15. ashie, I'm applying to mostly social psychology programs.
  16. I've taken the GRE twice. Take one: 157 V (74%), 149 Q (37%), 4 AW (56%). Take two: 155 V (67%), 150 Q (40%), 4 AW (56%). I realize the scores aren't drastically different, but I'm still having a hard time deciding which I should send to the rest of my schools (that didn't get both already with the 4 'free' sends). The quant is a poor score for both takes, and I'm not sure 3% difference even matters with two scores that are that low. I'm wondering if my 7% verbal is enough to warrant just sending the scores from take one and hoping the quant doesn't eliminate me from consideration. (FWIW: I'm not applying to fields that are heavy in math, I also have 3 graduate level research methods and analysis classes + the professor from those as a letter writer) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  17. The description is way more broad than my specific research interests but I wanted to get an idea of people kind of "in the ballpark." I am not familiar with a few of the names so I will look into them. Thanks so much for the list!
  18. Does anyone know of any faculty members with an interdisciplinary political psychology research interest? Preferably someone who is outside of the jury decision making, incarceration, and other similar legal process concentrations. (To give you an idea of what kinds of research I would prefer: neutral substrates contributing to political affiliation, situational factors or cognitive processes that influence political affiliation, the fluidity of morality in political ideology, defensive vs offensive voting, how framing influences public policy/voting, etc.) I have spent a time looking for political psychology programs, social psychology programs with political emphasis, and people who have published in journals like Political Psychology and I have only found a couple faculty members I am interested in working with. With application deadlines quickly approaching, I am getting nervous about my limited number of options so any help would be greatly appreciated!
