Your dad is mad you're on disability because his tax dollars go to it? Yikes. Agreed with above posters. Unsupportive people will never be happy for others. Do what is best for you. You're obviously very capable, I'm sure you'll find a way to get through this like your other education.

My goal is to work, submit at least one thing for publication, and finally watch House of Cards.

I'm going to go insane if I don't hear anything for another two months.
-
I can't work up the courage to send any emails to POIs even though the silence is driving me insane.

I noticed on the results page that USC didn't send out rejections last year until the end of March. Like....seriously? I understand it's a hectic process for them but, come on.

I've seen stuff on the results page for UCSD/SDSU for interviews. I don't remember the specifics now, I only remember the program because I got all nervous seeing UCSD then I saw clinical not social so I kept scrolling.

What are my chances? Untraditional undergrad experience/low GPA.

I would suggest more research. Quality, not quantity. I had a weird undergraduate path as well, including a multiyear gap between dropping out after a bunch of bad grades my freshman year and resuming my bachelor's well into my 20s. My saving grace is probably that I have four years of great research experience, and I've had several faculty members tell me this. If it helps your mindset, an impressive faculty member told me that in their mind, "nontraditional" students are much more focused (and sometimes more desirable) especially if they had to put some serious effort into coming back to school. I know the lower GPA and the messy transcript look scary to you (they do to me too) but you never know who you're going to impress by showing resilience and a little educational determination. Some people like the polished shiny 22 year old 4th generation college students with 3.9 GPAs, some people like students who had to get through some uncontrollable life obstacles in order to get to where they are. You can't go back and change anything, so just make sure everything you do from now on shows potential programs how much you deserve to be there. -
For me it's apply to lab manager positions basically anywhere in the country. Otherwise I guess I could stick around my current school another year, add a minor at the last minute and put off graduation? Graduate and ask the labs I'm at to take pity on me and let me stick around, maybe submit some things for publication? Move into my parents' basement and study for the GRE all day for 6 months? Otherwise, I could go for the Starbucks position. I'm a coffee addict already, might as well. A Chick-fil-A is being built by my house so I guess if I really hit rock bottom... It's probably a little early for me to be dramatic.

Psych Results Page Questions/Clarifications

To the person who posted on the results page about all interviews being out for Colorado Boulder: is this just the cognitive program you applied to, or for psychology as a whole? -
U Southern California: Psychology Ph.D. Applicants

Looks like you're doing very well this application season even without USC! Congrats -
I needed your optimistic ending tonight! My nervous are definitely shot, you're probably right about that being true for everyone. We all found a way this time, I'm sure we can all find a way again.

I could be completely wrong, but is it possible schools have to pay to maintain a relationship with ETS? I mean, obviously it doesn't cost $40k a year but that could be a cost associated with this process. Plus paying to fly people out for interviews could add up pretty quickly. I still can't believe Michigan received 600 applications. Those poor admissions people.
-
I guess I'll be watching my phone all day! Good luck to you as well.
-
That's actually really cool! Makes me wish I would have applied there for the sake of a couple little comfort emails haha
-
I submitted an application over the weekend for a program with rolling admissions, this morning I received an email from the admissions department with the word "invite" in the subject. It was an invitation to apply. Ugh.

Screw grad school, enjoy your scam cruise!

The silence from Clark is weird given I was sent at least a few automated email reminders about finishing my application. You would think they would do the same after the fact, at least with stages or something since they were so thorough about people finishing open applications.

Is it just me or are Social Psych admissions slow?

It feels painfully slow but when looking at last year's results page it seems about on schedule. I'm also struggling. -
Psych Results Page Questions/Clarifications

Two of my LOR writers asked me if they could write me a letter before I even got around to asking them, the third listened to me express my doubts about acceptance during the application process and spent a while reassuring me I was completely capable. So, I'm one of those people who would say I had strong letters, but I don't know that for a fact. I'm just assuming, I'm guessing most everybody else is too. -
I had a couple Skype conversations like this and, like someone said above, it seemed like they just wanted to know more about me and my interests. It was also an awesome time to ask POIs specific questions. Some of these people are getting dozens, even hundreds, of apps. I'm sure phone calls help narrow down the pool further.
