  1. I started with a list of about 15 programs and ended up applying to around 10. It seems like the 5 I eliminated are the 5 who have sent out definitive information to applicants already. This post brought to you by my silence induced nervousness increase.
  2. I've refrained from posting POI information publicly because a) it's really easy to take things online the wrong way and I don't want that to happen with any of my grad cafe posts (especially if I've shown preferences for certain schools, etc.) just incase schools are lurking & the privacy thing somebody else mentioned, the school/POI doesn't post a list of interviewing applicants for everyone to see so I feel it's proper to give the same privacy in return, yenno? Posting POIs is probably harmless in the long run but you never know! Plus I have a feeling we've all had it beaten into us that everything online is public & will be seen by people like future employers, so we might be hesitant to post identifiable things to begin with.
  3. This has been happening to me with some sort of data science program at Berkeley. Nothing I've applied to is affiliated with Berkeley or data science, none of my GRE or LSAT information indicated interest in either. Super weird.
  4. Ante up
  5. I am too. I'm fairly certain my POI at one of my top choices already extended a couple of interview offers so my confidence in this entire thing has been shot. I'm just trying to remind myself that the Skype contact (or phone contact in your case) wouldn't have happened if they weren't at least somewhat interested. I mean, it isn't like they have to humor us during this entire process, ha. No sense in them wasting that time for someone they didn't believe had some potential. Just yesterday I received an email from one of the programs with an early December deadline saying my application status had been changing to "under review" (which I already knew because I had contact with my POI a month ago who had read my application then) so I'm making the preemptive generalization that social programs just take their time with this process. It might not be true, but it's helping my state of mind a little. I almost want a rejection at this point to calm my nerves.
  6. Oh, I see somebody posted a social interview on the results page and indicated they received an email five days ago.
  7. Same. I could actually see a close friend getting bored with me the other day. They just be anticipating me hearing back as much as I am.
  8. "Subject: application status update Dear xxx, Your departmental graduate application status has been updated. Your application status in the department is now: Under Review. Reviewers have been assigned to review your application and will soon be making recommendations." Thanks for the heart attack to tell me what I already knew!
  9. A somewhat similar situation happened to me and based on what I could figure out, my POI didn't know when final decisions were needed by the department. Plus they don't have formal or mandatory interviews, let alone an interview weekend, so that kind of eliminates the need for a rigid decision date. I got a kind of "I have no idea if you'll have to interview in-person but keep in touch" closing. Maybe your POI is in a situation like mine?
  10. Seeing your userphoto never gets old.
  11. Does anyone here have any idea if it's relatively common for a large program to just not accept any students? For some reason, seeing a University of Florida applicant report a rejection on the results page with a comment about the program not accepting any students this year surprised me.
  12. Also interested, and congrats to that person!
  13. I've had several faculty members tell me that if you can find and make notice of something that contradicts a low quant score (great grades in stats, taking analyses classes, a LOR writer with knowledge of your ability with numbers) that the quant score *almost* doesn't matter as long as it isn't something dismal like 25th percentile. I think grad admissions care more about your GRE score than anybody else in the process. Of course this isn't universal, but what I've picked up in the process.
  14. Good birth control reminder!
  15. Seems about right on a general basis. Several POIs I've talked to have told me their in-person interviews are basically optional. In clinical it seems almost universally mandatory.
  16. Everything should be out now.
  17. Nevada at Reno. If I remember correctly the application is due 02/01. Another suggestion for anybody who wants last minute additions!
  18. I found a program with an apllication deadline in FEBRUARY. Talk about setting yourself up for being a backup backup school.
  19. Haha! I'm not surprised either, but it isn't stopping me from stressing out.
  20. Anybody else temporarily wish they were going into clinical so they would have probably heard some results by now?
  21. Let the even more compulsive email checking begin! I'm in the same boat, it seems like this week & two weeks from now were the "golden weeks" last year. I think I'm developing anxiety, ha.
  22. I finally had one! My (recently turned) ex-SO was serving on the graduate admissions committee at my dream school & told my POI all about how I got sad about the breakup even though I did the breaking up and obviously I'm an emotional wreck and wouldn't be good for the school. Luckily the dream ended with my current research mentor getting a call from my POI, the mentor raved about me and they agreed to still consider me.
  23. I'm with ya there. When I applied I felt great about my SOP, now I feel like it's not complete & just a mess. Between a breakup and the application process I'm running fully on coffee, not sleep. I even had a dream the other night my ex was on an admission board & denied me from my dream school. I can't wait for official decisions to finally happen.
  24. I think the CIC was how I was granted a fee waiver for Nebraska (and denied one at Minnesota because I requested too late). The B1G is kind of bizarre, Shep. Especially since Nebraska is one of two or three D1 schools that have completely separate athletic departments, all school money and athletic money is kept in its respective department.
