They still haven’t made a decision on their gre policy for this year

I’m applying for a test waiver for NYUs part time MBA program. I double majored in two sciences from a top state school and have a 3.8 GPA. You are given 150 words to explain why your majors would qualify for a waiver. I know they aren’t business majors but I’ve taken a boat load of math and statistics courses on top of all my rigorous science classes. I was going to say my quantitative courses will reflect my success better then the GRE/GMAT. Any advice and was anyone successful in being awarded a waiver with a science major?

Is that true for the MC/MPA ? Or the regular MPA?

Which schools match other schools?

Your undergrad institution I hope is better. I have a coworker at McCourt now I hope he/she gets something out of it -

I don’t get why they don’t want job offers? Do they think they’re too good for what you’re offering or do they think they can find a better job ? -

You activity seek out Alumni from Georgetown on LinkedIn and try to get them jobs? That’s nice, I only get spam about online degree programs and retirement offers. -

What would that be ? And what’s bad about the Georgetown public policy school? I know some people who went there on a $20,000 scholarship. -
I mentioned this before in another post, with all this emphasis on quantitative skills they make it seem like we’re going into a chemistry or physics program, not a MPA one. I don’t even think my biology undergrad was like this, we took up to calc 2 and a semester of statistics (along with chem, organic and physics).

I’m guessing NYU Wagner and Columbia SIPA aren’t as quantitatively centered if they allow you to waiver it
-
Have they still not made a decision on whether the GRE will be required for their MC/MPA program this application cycle ? I check their tumbler blog and all I see are posts saying “applicants are excited to start the application process, however, we do not have a decision on whether we’ll make changes to our application process”. Harvard College and Harvard Business are not requiring the SAT and GMAT, and they made that decision in July, this year so what gives with HKS?

He never took it according to an interview. There’s someone in my office who took it three times and still never passed it. It’s hard enough for most lawyers to find jobs with a passing bar exam can you imagine without it ?
-
Yes big difference. You can’t get out of the mcat or lsat. Especially since you have to take boards and the bar.
-
Absolutely, but too often I see the wrong way as was the case with me when I first applied to grad school in 2015.
-
I did horrible on the SATs and I did very well in my calc classes at my school. Some people aren’t standardized test takers. Plus a lot of people do “tricks” to help solve the problems
-
How when it’s only testing math and vocabulary skills? My opinion, subject tests would be great indicators instead of a test that sees if you’re a walking dictionary

That’s how admissions at Princeton advertised their MPA program
-
Doesn’t matter if it’s “tailor made” for US students. It’s still an extra, and sometime expensive, step we have to take. I’ve been working for multiple years in industry and have a stellar academic record. This exam shouldn’t be a factor in my admissions process. Which is why I hope the GRE becomes extinct eventually. Looking at how many schools are dropping it, it may very well be gone
-
A friend of mine did that for his GMATs and they laughed at him. No one, except for certain schools, cares about test scores especially in the working world
-
I applied to SIPA and Wagner last year without scores and got in with no problem (I have a fairly high GPA though from a top public school). They’re both very expensive hence why I didn’t take the offers. Wagner just gave me $6,000 and SIPA $10,000, a spit in the bucket! I think most, of not all, of the mid career programs eliminated their GRE requirements (except HKS). I always said, the GRE should be used if you have a lower gpa that you need to make up for. I’d talk to the admissions reps and see what they have to say. 3.2 is an ok gpa but I don’t know what the averages are for those schools

The mason program is for if you’re coming from a developing country (I’m in the US). Which is unfair for us and also if you’re applying from Israel it isn’t required. Totally unfair. Yes it is a new development, they were talking about throwing it out for awhile because the program is for working professionals. The MPA is mostly geared for people coming right out of college
-
As of right now, the only big MC/MPA program that still unfortunately requires the gre (and is very uptight about using it -_-) is HKS. Princeton’s MPP just dropped theirs and that one is free! Worth it for the small class size (20 people a year) and the Princeton brand name on your resume. Keep in mind that both programs require 7+ years of work experience and that’s the minimum last year I applied to SIPA and NYU without the GRE and got in without a problem

Just how quantitative is Princeton's MPA program?
columbia09 replied to MPPhopeful2021's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Yep !!!! And according to admissions, it will most likely stay like that -

Why are all these government programs so quantitative heavy ? I feel like how they’re portrayed I’m going into a physics or chem program. If you have a quantitative background (studied science here), do you still have to submit a GRE? Or is the GRE only for those with no quantitative course work for Princeton? -
Anyone familiar with this program ? I found a professor there who’s work is in-line with my interests but how will future job prospectives be coming from a PhD CUNY program ? You have very reputable programs in the area such as Columbia and Princeton so will you be seen as a look over ? They also have a masters program that I’m considering doing before a PhD but another issue I’d like to explore, can any PhD be done part time ? Has anyone ever saw that ?

Seriously think Harvard is the only program that hasn’t made any changes to their gre requirement
