Ready to tell the world where you'll be attending?

I'm joining UF's Clinical and Health Psychology Program in the fall! Can't wait to meet everyone (: To the other posters, congratulations and best of luck. -
At both of my interviews, most everyone wore suits. My roommates gave me great advice that I felt good about: to stand out in a positive way, wear a shirt/necklace that showcases who you are. So I wore my suit with a white floral top or a soft blue sweater with a bold rainbow colored necklace. One interview was in the snow and one was in the heat. At both interviews I used my skirt suit on day 1 and pant suit day 2. Advice from someone who didn't know better: Don't wear leather boots in the snow! It hurts them!

Hey, all! I don't know why I didn't start this forum before. I was wondering how many of the Clinical Psychology applicants out there are applying to Neuropsychology tracks within their program? If so, have any offers been extended from those programs? Also, what is your specific interest within Neuropsychology? Will post with my own later! But I wanted to get this forum started!

Could the reimbursement occur during/after the interview weekend? I haven't been offered any reimbursement yet.

According to my Results Page reviewing and detailed Excel document, most of the programs I applied to sent out notifications this week of January in 2014… I can't name the feelings that I feel.

Psychology students hearing about interviews

On the other hand… one of my schools emailed today to say that their office is closed for the holidays. No interview invites have been extended yet! I checked my other applications, and some have similar messages about their offices closing. I'm going to hold onto this thought for dear life and try to enjoy the holidays. -

What was/will be your deciding factor?

I really like this advice. Like Vulpez, I don't know if I will have the luxury of "choosing" between programs, but I do know that even if I get into my #13/13 favorite program, I still plan to visit. I don't think you can find "fit" in two paragraphs of a lab description on a department website. Visiting the school, talking to the professor, and talking to graduate students seems to be the only way to find out where you belong. I had a phone interview with a professor before application deadline. His funding situation is less than ideal but I have fallen head over heels for his lab set-up and program. If I have the chance to join his lab, I might use a "whatever works to make it work" approach and take out a few loans. Although I wish I loved a program with more funding options, I know I would have a great, well-rounded experience in his lab that would benefit my future career. Is there anyone else in a similar situation? -
Thank you both for your input! I can see the merit in both arguments… I'll have to ask my advisor to break the tie. But I definitely think I'll update my letter writers! I didn't know that they may get phone calls.

My publication was just accepted (2nd Author) Yay!! On the applications I submitted mid-November the paper is listed as "submitted." So, two questions: -Is it worth it to contact the schools I applied to and tell them about the new status of my publication? -How do I go about contacting the departments to update my application? Thank you for the help!

Clinical Psychology Ph.D. applicant thread Fall 2015
rosiesg2 replied to hummm's topic in Psychology Forum
My graduate student mentor had great advice for me: There's no need to worry about acceptances or interviews over the holidays. While you're building yourself up into an anxiety attack, your POI will be enjoying his/her Christmas ham. But isn't it crazy to think that in a months time we could have interview invitations? A few weeks after that, acceptances or denials? Oh, my heart. -
Clinical Psychology Ph.D. applicant thread Fall 2015

Hi! This is my first Grad Cafe post, but it was really nice to find a thread full of Clinical Psychology applicants. I can't wait for Spring, so for now I'm taking up journaling, Netflix, and whatever else can distract me from compulsively checking the Results Search page. 1) In my emails to professors, I read their a research paper/research websites and asked if they would recommend any additional papers to elucidate their current research focus. Some of the professors ignored the question and responded anyway, but the ones who considered my question offered a lot of helpful information. 2) Out of the 13 schools I emailed, 10 replied. I had one phone interview that was promising! But I am keeping my options open for now. Who knows who will be interested in further correspondence in January-February! 3) I'm interested in the effect of clinical conditions on cognition, especially TBI. I tried to keep an open mind about population of interest, especially because a lot of programs have practicum opportunities in different populations/settings that can make up for almost-perfect research projects. Now for the sit and wait...
