1. Greetings, everyone! (And congrats to all Ohio State admits so far!) I, too, posted an Ohio State acceptance--but I have mostly done results search lurking until recently, thus the reason for my comment's delay. It seems Ohio State is a god-send for many of us in our second round of applications. Like many in this thread (and forum, no doubt), I received nothing but rejections last year, and am beyond ecstatic to finally have a funded Ph.D. offer to sit on! Three cheers for dogged endurance! Woolfie, your post concerns me a bit: Is Ohio State planning to resort to absurd levels of composition slavery?
2. Hi, everyone! My friend (who isn't a member of Grad Cafe) posted the Madison admission--she received e-mail notification back in January of acceptance and scholarship nomination. I asked her if she would be willing to share information on the results feed so the poor, anxious folks contributing to this thread would have some sort of news. I'm so, so sorry I threw you all into cardiac arrest! I really and truly wanted to help. As one who applied last year and received straight rejections, I certainly can empathize with the waiting game anxiety issues. (I've mostly done lurking this season, but might start posting more frequently now.) Anyway, my sincerest apologies again for causing extra stress. From what I can gather, Madison still has many an offer to make, so keep the faith!
3. My friend once mentioned that it's possible to skip the AW section on a GRE retake without penalty (assuming you've taken the AW before and have scored to your liking, so adcoms have something to evaluate). You simply move on to the next section, and "NS" (no score) shows up on your score report. Is this true? Good/bad idea?
4. Accepting off of the wait list already???
5. Thanks, Lady_coffee. So sorry to hear that you didn't get good news.
6. Okay. So someone just posted a rejection via postal service. I really hope all mail notifications aren't rejections--again, I just don't see how they could be with only two acceptances currently posted.
7. Atleast they responded to you! I called because no one responded to my e-mail inquiry.
8. I'll probably regret being so stupidly optimistic, but I'm still not giving up hope. There aren't enough acceptances up on the Results Page to convince me they've made all of their offers. If Iowa was making 5 offers--then maybe--but they usually make around 20. Plus, this "small group of other students" could just be fellowship recipients.
9. I called up to ask--they said that all should receive letters this week. Hope that's true!
10. Haha! That's awesome. Here's to literary allusions! :) I love the story about the Americans waiting for the delivery of _The Old Curiosity Shop_, and the raising of the black flag for Little Nell.

11. Correction: If you intended your SN to be a Dickens allusion.

12. Hello! This is random, but I was curious to know if your SN was intended to be a Dickens allusion. Very cool! :)

13. I know what you mean about being twitchy. When I saw that one random e-mail acceptance go up I was hoping like crazy for an e-mail--but now that it seems people are being waitlisted/rejected via e-mail I'm desperately willing my Inbox to remain empty.
14. Okay. Iowa's lack of notification consistency is driving me insane. The only explanation I've been able to come up with is perhaps they've changed their DGS recently, so this year's acceptances/waitlists/rejections are being done differently. But what do I know? Those letters better get here quickly. . .
15. Gah! I'm freaking out. This is my top choice--and if I'm rejected, I'm officially out of the game! *cringes*
16.

That's strange. My friend (who also applied) called the department and was told that both "yeas" and "nays" would be sent out next week.
17. I know they're sending out letters next week--acceptance and rejection. . . so I'm not sure what the e-mail business is about. CONFUSED!
18. So clearly we should e-mail the DGS and reason with him/her. We're all GradCafe BFFs, and cannot be separated at risk of disrupting the order of the universe. And I guess we should count the two phone calls on the Results Page--so three left.
19. No kidding. Okay, so we have six spots left. People better hurry up and post before slots run out!
20. HAHA! True dat. Sounds like a plan to me. I guess I'll see you in Bloomington!
21. True. But last year they doubled their class size to increase revenue (not all offers were funded, so some that went elected to pay tuition). And this year they're only taking ten or so.
22. I was looking at past acceptance patterns, and there seems to be one or two random phone notifications thrown in with the majority of e-mail and postal notifications. Maybe if you're receiving a certain kind of funding package you're accepted by phone? *sigh* I'm really freaking out now. If IU rejects me, I'm *this* close to being completely out of the game.
23. I'm confused. I have a source at IU, and she told me that the committee met yesterday to finalize decisions, and that Bev didn't even have the information yet. Should we already count ourselves out???
