  1. Nevermind! I figured it out. Thanks for telling us about the link!
  2. Minnares, what did you use for your ID number? I tried to use my PIN, but it's only nine digits.
  3. To those of you accepted at Madison: Did you apply straight to the Ph.D., or for the M.A./Ph.D. bridge?
  4. There's no need to apologize, lompoc727, though it's really considerate of you to be so cognizant of everyone's feelings and anxieties. You should feel proud of your acceptance, and have every right to be excited and post it on the Results Page (that's what I would have done). I think we're all (myself included) incredibly tense, nervous, etc., as it's feedback season and that's how we roll on Grad Cafe. Congrats again on your terrific accomplishment.
  5. I'm starting to think I should have put that I'm a Lee/FFV in my SOP. Haha. . . That might have helped seal the deal.
  6. I feel the same way, Crutch. I just about barfed when I saw it. So much for getting anything done today. *refreshes e-mail*
  7. I was in an extremely similar situation several months ago. So exciting, yet frightening, isn't it? *twitters nervously* Some generic advice: 1) When formulating your questions, I would go on to your program's website and make sure that you're asking him/her something that isn't already answered on the web. That way he/she can see you've done your homework, are taking an active interest in the program, and, most importantly, are not wasting his/her time. 2) RELAX. . . or try your best to anyway. One of my biggest regrets after my meeting was how worked up I got beforehand. I ended up having a delightful conversation with the professor, and felt warmly embraced by all others I met in my program. Think positively. . . you will do well! Hope this helps!
  8. Does anyone know if Yale's been closed? I tried to find out on their website, but no luck. . . though I could have easily overlooked it. . .
  9. Yeah--I've been twice. Once to visit for grins, and the second time to meet with the professor I mentioned in the previous post. I agree--it is indeed ghettofabulous and prime rapist territory. A hobo literally tried to grab me by the arm as I walked into a Starbucks because I did not put any money in the jar he shoved into my face. Scary! But thanks for the comforting thoughts; I've also applied to UVA. . . I think most would agree that Charlottesville is MUCH nicer than New Haven, so there's that to hope for as well (though that's a tough school too). We'll see!
  10. *sigh* I was trying to avoid dubbing one of my schools "top choice" in my head, but the truth is. . . I want to go to Yale so badly I can hardly stand it. To echo an earlier post, I don't want to go merely because Yale is Yale, but because one of the coolest, down-to-earth academics I have ever met would potentially be my advisor. I was fortunate enough to secure a meeting with this professor several months ago, and in during the short meeting we had it felt like we really hit it off so to speak. It'd be surreal to become a Bulldog!
  11. I don't think they've finished making all of their offers. The two posters on the Results page seemed to have been notified early because they were nominated for fellowships. And I don't know if you applied for an M.A. or a Ph.D., but the two offers posted are also only Ph.D. notifications. So I think there's still hope, but that's just my opinion.
  12. I sent a card immediately after I got out of an interview--good idea, in my opinion.
  13. Agreed. Who knows? Maybe we'll end up being Victorianist buddies at Indiana, Poco_puffs!
  14. I'm also applying to Indiana for Victorian, but with an emphasis on women's literature, animal studies, and transatlanticism (among other things).
  15. I only applied to six. I realize that most apply to at least eight, but my mentor seemed to think six was a good number/I had a good balance of "reach" schools and "safety" schools (so to speak. . . if "safety" schools even truly exist with graduate school applications). In any case, I barely had enough cash to finance six applications. . . *shrugs*
  16. I've been wondering the same thing. Any input would be great!
  17. As a general rule I would guess that state schools are having a harder time than private schools, but that's not 100% true.
  18. This might help relieve some of the anxiety--I know it helped me!
  19. Hilarious! I need to save this and use it as a template for when students ask me for recommendations.
  20. This month means either the end or the continuation of dreaming about my first semester at my top choice school. . . Best of luck to all!
