  1. I don't understand what you are trying to prove. I've said it before on this forum that the concept came from whogotin.com. It is no longer in service though, and people wanted a place to go. It wouldn't be that big of deal if yuster just credited me for taking my results. Also, I can see IP addresses for guests, so you can pretend to be multiple people all you want. You can get a little more creative with guests names, can't you?
  2. Again, I will give you $1 for every result I took from their site. Edit: It's not that yuster's website is like mine, it's that he is taking the results that I am paying to obtain.
  3. I will give you $1 for every result you find on my website that was taken from whogotin.com.
  4. Funny, they get about 10 submissions a day, and now all of the sudden they have 50+ submissions from today alone? You know, I should really just take all the "live graphs" he makes and post them on my site since it is made with the data you submit here. Mr. Yuster, do you think I won't notice if you just steal results every now and then from one day? I can see who my devoted regulars are, and I see their entries on your site. Now, maybe they are pulling the wool over my eyes, but let's face it, you're not exactly the most trustworthy person ever, huh? Let's check the whois for the website again... Looks like the whois has been updated! Wonderful. Now I can call the correct company tomorrow.
  5. They have the same ID number. While I was looking, I saw that the same ID number (different from the nwu/cornell person) had posted both an acceptance and rejection from Cornell, so I deleted both entries. If the person sees this, you are welcome to resubmit the honest answer. I don't understand people's motives in lying. Really -- what does it get you? Wahoo! You lied on an internet survey. That was fun for the whole 45 seconds it took you to type it in, so what now? Oh right, you're back to doing nothing again.
  6. I've noticed it's more international students who write their own recommendations. I've seen a few people in applyingtograd say their professors asked them to write their own recs, but I'd just feel weird about it. I mean, it kind of goes against the idea of you being reviewed by professors/people you've worked with and turns into another personal statement. If I could write my own recommendation, it would sound like I came from grad applicant heaven! Hahah. "This student is the best student I have ever had. She embodies every trait an academic and future professional should have, and you'd be stupid not to let her in your program. STUPID. Sincerely yours, Professor X."
  7. Okay, I'll disable registration there. People began emailing me asking me to edit their posts because only registered users can edit, plus when you have 6 replies from "guest" it gets confusing. For those reading, let this be a warning that I will not edit your post if you post something you wish you wouldn't have. Registration takes a second, you can edit your post, and PM other users. I'm not trying to "sell" it, but it is handy.
  8. I noticed on facebook that they have a little stats section that ranks favorites (movies, books, clubs, ect) for your school. You can select a different state and school to compare it to as well! I had fun comparing it to potential graduate schools to see how different/alike they are. I liked (liked as in funny) how my school's #1 book was the Bible (a non-religious, public school). I compared it to places like Berkeley and got totally different rankings.
  9. I am really rooting for a graduate school to accept you. I am sure there are some other very good programs you didn't apply to that might not be at the tip top level but close -- maybe you should start rounding up some recommendations and getting some applications ready for the schools who are still taking applications? You could always "prove" yourself in one program and transfer next year. Hang in there!
  10. I know this is the only results survey system (well, besides yuthief.com who takes my results). I honestly have no idea why medical students aren't on here. They are certinaly invited to participate! I guess they just have better things to worry about haha!
  11. Are you invited to their meet up at the end of March? I've been up there once to meet the department before I was accepted, but I'd like to go again to see the other people admitted to the program. I'm still not sure where I want to go yet!
  12. I actually am going to make "The Menu" section registered users only. I don't want to leave out those who don't wish to register, but there are some good discussion threads in that section. I think you can probably register with a fake email, so you can try that route. My only reasoning for doing this is making a way to identify a poster beyond "guest" in this section. You wouldn't believe how many individual posters have posted as "guest" on this forum. Maybe I'll make a special secret forum for registered users.
  13. You guests have got to include some sort of name to seperate you from other guests when participating in a thread. It gets way too confusing, but I don't want to have to turn on registration. We're getting a lot more traffic now (which is great), so please help me out! Thank you.
  14. Well, am I glad to see you here. I'm glad you registered! I'm going to send you a PM with questions. Hahaha FINALLY! This board actually helps me find out some information. If it weren't for seeing locura's notification for UGA, I wouldn't have gotten any good inside info from the site I made.
  15. That's no good. Is anyone else having a problem?
  16. I'll make you a deal - if a thread for a specific area gets a decent amount of traffic, I will make a specific user group for it. I've made one for Sociology, Linguistics, and Political Science.
  17. I thought it would be nicer to just put the results on the main page.
  18. I think that is the general idea. I wondered at first too over the amount of phds, but I guess a lot of programs have a masters to phd step.
  19. I felt that getting a masters would help make me a better qualified candidate for job prospects. I also enjoy being in school, so not only will it help my career (as I am getting a professional degree), but the connections I make and the people I meet will also benefit my future.
  20. Thank you! I can't take much of the credit for the auto-update, and Mr. Mysterious didn't want me to give him too much. I know he is on the forum though, so maybe he'll post sometime and identify himself.

    Donations

I don't feel right about taking potential graduate students' money! Hahaha! It reminds me of when the local ten year olds would go to the college student apartments and try to sell cheap wind chimes and stale cookies for a fundraiser. It would always line up with the rent due date for some reason. I have a pretty good deal with the storage size and what not. I'm going to keep track of the stats and how much space/transfer room is being used, but we're in the clear right now. I appreciate the thought - it makes me feel good to know I am helping to make applicants more stressed than they already are. I saw today that someone finally got notified by one of my programs, so I will be watching the mail like crazy now!

    Interview

The best advice I can give you is to just be able to answer questions about why you picked the field and why you picked that school. I think if you put too much thought in a word for word answer, it will sound very rehersed. I had an interview this past weekend and realized I sounded like a robot and they weren't getting any of my personality. Just be yourself and know why you are there! That's all you can ask of yourself really. Do a little faculty research if you know who is interviewing you so you can get a good idea of their interests.
  23. I posted a thread about someone emailing me to volunteer organizing the results, and today I had an IM of someone offering their services in creating an automatic survey. There may be some kinks, but I will make a back up each day. The entries that had "masters" or the like in front of them haven't been organized yet. The new survey has a few new options. - A seperate section to mark the degree type. This will help with sorting the majors by themselves. - Additional comments. If you want to include that you are an international student or even an email address, go for it! Please remember that the first word you enter in the program field is how it will be sorted when viewing results by program. This will help out the auto system in putting it in its correct spot. You might want to opt for a broad word such as "History" and then use a dash (-) to specifiy the interest. So, thank you to Mr. Mysterious! I appreciate the help that people have offered and given, and I know everyone else does too.
  24. Well, today I went and got a black suit, and I feel much better about it! The temperature outlook has dropped even more, so I would have felt stupid in a skirt suit. I think the only thing that could be worse than getting a rejection before they meet you is getting one afterwards! Luckily my nervousness fades as soon as I sit down and start talking, but Saturday night will not come fast enough for me!
  25. bittergrrl has updated the excel up to 1126! We'll get it uploaded ASAP. Edit: I'd also like to include what an insane amount of work it is to do that excel, so she's amazing.
