Got another email from a different program officer. They aren't really sure what's going on but at first glance it appears Mudlark is right and that these lists are of the initial CGS and SSHRC winners. I think they might have been posted because of that announcement/photo op thing with Tony Clement. I'll let you know if I get any other information. Canuck, are you still planning on checking in on a regular basis to see if there's any updated information on the hold?

From SSHRC: "You are correct in your impression below: namely that a person receiving a SSHRC CGS must be registered at a Canadian university. I have brought the document that you cite below to the attention of Nadine XXX and Christine XXX, both of whom are Program Officers working on the doctoral awards administration for the 2010-2011 year. They should be able to address the concerns that you raise below." No word on whether this means anything good for me LOL.

I just sent off an email to my program officer regarding the non-CDN CGS awards (sadly she is unwilling to provide as much info as MSP). I'll let you know when/if I receive a response.

And no one is answering the phone, of course... I think someone at SSHRC has screwed up royally.
-
Ok, WTF? http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/results-resultats/2010/cgs-bes_doc.pdf These are all American institutions... these people aren't eligible for the $105k!!
-
Also remember that last year's first wave only started at the end of August, so we aren't too far behind...
-
That hold has got to end at some point though, doesn't it? And Canuck, if the Vanier winners accepted, how can you not have a SSHRC? This process still doesn't make a lot of sense to me... *clings to hope*
-
Hey Canuck, Could you email MSP on Wednesday or Thursday instead of Friday? I'll be away from the computer Fri-Mon and I don't want to miss the update that there is no update, haha...
-
Canuck, you are planning on emailing MSP at the beginning of September, right?
-
No email to MSP yesterday, Canuck?
-
^^ LOL, I'm still being neurotic, but only because I am Like That. I'd be willing to bet that they'll only start bumping people up early September.

Thanks so much for the info SpaceJump! I'm hoping this means good news for me, as I'm currently #1 in my subgroup for the CGS. When the first wave hits I hope we have a lot of happy posters here on tgc! I had emailed last week and was basically told, 'don't call us, we'll call you, now go away.' I was told, though, that 'extra funds' had been released for the postdocs, but that 'so far' nothing similar was happening at the doctoral level.

It just doesn't make sense, LOL! If all that had to happen was for a Vanier winner to accept their award for Canuck to receive an SDF... and presumably this would have happened in May... do you see why I'm confused? At the same time, we know at least 2 people on this thread were bumped from an SDF to a CGS... maybe I should accept that I will never understand how SSHRC works!
-
^^ but a 3rd or 4th year student could be bumped up from the waitlist to the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship.

Okay, here's a really random question that's been bothering me: why would a Vanier winner be offered a SDF instead of a CGS? I know that those who did not win a Vanier were offered a CGS, so wouldn't it make sense that it Vanier winners were going to be offered something else, that it would be a CGS? This would potentially explain why Mudlark has already been bumped and Canuck hasn't. On that note, any news?
-
@ChadEcon Oops! End of July, then, as I'm spending the first two weeks of August in beautiful Prince Edward Island. Good news would be a lovely way to begin my vacation...
-
Wishing good things for you, Canuck! And thanks for the info! I think I'll call August 2nd if I haven't heard anything.

Thank you! I am going to be a nervous wreck for the rest of the summer, lol. We could really use the money, as our condo just got hit with a $1 million special assessment (which works out to about $15k per unit). I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I will say that it's nice to know I didn't just squeak by to win the SSHRC Doctoral... it was a bit of a mindf*ck for my score to be so much lower than most of the other successful applicants on this forum.
-
Just received a reply: I'm number 1 on the waitlist for a CGS! In a way I wish I didn't know this, because there's no guarantee that anyone will give up their award... *flails* (and to think I thought the flailing due to SSHRC was over!) And holy cow, my subgroup must have been evaluated very strictly - my score is 18.1 (note above student4life's score of 21+).

I've sent an email to SSHRC asking where I am on 'the list' (in terms of getting bumped from the B to A level award). I'm probably not even remotely close, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask, lol!
