That probably means they're coming out Thursday.
-
I kind of want to call them tomorrow afternoon to ask if the letters have been sent out, but probably shouldn't be such a pain in the ass, lol. Over the next two days I need to finish a major paper (and I have another 10 pages of dense social theory to write, blarg), and then I'm off to Toronto for a few days. What do you want to bet the letter will arrive immediately after I've left? *sigh*

^^ last year, MA results were released first. It would be awesome if PhD results came out earlier this year!
-
Well, I live in Ottawa, so I'm assuming I'd be one of the first to get a letter. One thing to keep in mind is that adjudication takes place in March. Right now, we're waiting on SSHRC staff to compile data, mail letters, etc. So it really depends on how fast they are! (lol, maybe they will sick of all the emails and try to get them out as soon as possible!_

brain storm

Start of May, eh? Does anyone want to guess what day results will start to come out? I'll start: I'm going to be optimistic and say May 5th.
-
I was talking to one of my profs the other day (he's been on many SSHRC committees in the past), and he said if you're an MA student or a PhD1 student, don't worry about publications. He seemed to think that reference letters were the most important part of an application. He also said adjudicators put a lot of weight on the departmental evaluation. The whole process is extremely subjective, though - I'd be willing to be each adjudicator has their own criteria for determing what the best applications are... trying to determine if your application meets SSHRC's amorphus criteria is probably little more than an exercise in frustration. (Doesn't always stop me from thinking about it, but it's true...)

^^ Yep. Couldn't help myself and ended up emailing them. Got the same response, word for word, as an earlier poster on this thread.
-
SSHRC is still saying that results will be out (mailed) by the "end of April, early May." Sigh. Would it really be so difficult for them to just pick a date and run with it?
-
Is it possible you misheard? An A- average is the minimum requirement for being able to apply for an OGS.
-
Truthfully, does anyone reading this thread think letters will be in the mail this week? Or have we all resigned ourselves to finding out in May? And, who else is still working on assignments/essays for the semester? Surely I can't be the only one... (perhaps I am the only procrastinating one, hmm...)
-
I would do the exact same thing! We've already prepaid about 5 years worth of payments and it feels great (only 33 years, 3 months left to go... sigh). Although I'm too paranoid to actively plan what I'd do with the money, lol!! No one in my department has heard 'boo' about SSHRC, and they weren't surprised when I said it would likely be a few more weeks... we all know 'end of April' actually means 'mid-May'!
-
I was browsing last year's SSHRC thread (oh, the things a procrastinating grad student will do), and PhD results came out May 12, with letters being mailed May 26. MA acceptances were sent out earlier.
-
I haven't been able to focus on my last essay at all! I keep hoping that maybe, somehow, I will magically get a letter in my mailbox... I'm going to stick with my notify date of April 30, but I wouldn't be surprised if results come out later. Anyone else jealous of the science and engineering people?? LOL
-
Just so you know, my results are still accessible on the OGS site. It appears as though the results that have been posted will remain posted. Good luck to those of you still waiting! (I myself am waiting on SSHRC, which might not come out until May! Ugh)
-
^^ noooo!! darn it, I knew this would happen. *grumble, grumble, grumble*

I'm currently a TA at Queen's, and this year every one of my students had a Blackberry! It was a little weird, lol. 80% of them went to private schools, and 95% of them were white. Pretty homogenous group.
-
According to the Vanier thread, SSHRC Vanier letters were dropped in the mail today. I hope that means they'll start work on *these* awards next week!
-
OGS results took the edge off... for about half an hour, lol!! Hopefully SSHRC results will come out faster than I think they will (though I'm sticking to my prediction of April 30).
