  1. I hear ya man I got into Portland State's program last year, but it would have cost too much $$$ I would have gotten into SIU carbondale's program but they wanted me for an in person interview. I could not afford to make the trip though. And the guy interviewing me was so rude and short tempered. Hands down one of the worst experiences I've had in a while. Best of luck to you as well.
  2. I thought it would be! I am just gonna hope for the best but plan for the worst. Where are you applying?
  3. I am applying to Tulane University anyone else? I am applying for painting. Does anyone know how competitive the program is?
  4. yea 1000 is plenty - i did americorps and lived in portland on 400 bucks a month is 1000 after rent?
  5. Well I probably was not accepted then.i haven't heard anything. That's okay- that phone interview was awful. I couldn't make that interview-flights are ridiculous. Congrats I am sure you are gonna do great there if that is what you end doing in the fall
  6. So true. Yeah that's just how I feel. I'm an anti student loan guy. If you cannot tell. I wouldn't want to sway someone from their dream by telling them loans are an issue. In the end I think each person makes the best decision by making up their own minds about school. Even if it's MICA-if that's where they wanna go they should do it.
  7. True,I think it comes down to the person and what they want out of a program. And how they feel about $$. I don't think someone should solely decline a program based on funding. But school just keeps getting so expensive. I think people should realize there are great programs for art at less expensive/ lesser known but great programs-Jerry saltz had a good article on it a few years ago. That's my lens though.
  8. go with ohio state-debt is not worth it. Ohio state is great. here read this blog http://dontpayforgradschool.weebly.com/about.html TYle might sound tempting. Debt is very real and it sucks.
  9. No I have not. Have you? did your interview go well? I don't think I will hear from them for at least another week or two
  10. great! best of luck to you my friend. you are going to crush that interview!
  11. They asked me about teaching and my experiences. (I have 3 years working with k-12) They asked me about why I chose SIU, what i knew about their undergrad programs. Why I chose the mfa painting area. Very short 11 minute interview. .I was surprised the interviewer didn't ask me more about my work and ideas don't associate my interview with what your experience will be like. I dont think my interviewer reflects the rest of the SIU mfa faculty.Or the interviewer's personal character. I am sure they are great people. On the plus side the funding is excellent. I think the program is great. I just had a bad interview experience/corespondence experience. You should do fine
  12. that is great new! I am very happy for you! best of luck to you and your work! I am sure you will do great things!
  13. I just got a notification that I was accepted into PSU MFA-partial tuition waiver and a 1000 stipend
  14. That is excellent! do you think you will attend? I am glad to hear your Bard interview went well-Fingerscrossed.
  15. I heard back from Portland State-waitlisted anything on your end?
  16. Guess what camera monster me too! Im waitlisted. I am viewing this as a learning experience-we will be better equipped for next time. I am considering it a small victory. Good luck wit your Bard interview. keep posted.
  17. god me too-applications are expensive! If I don't get in its okay-because Ill just keep on working and wait.
  18. hah thats funny. I suppose it takes a long time. Where else have you applied?
  19. I am not sure. I feel like they should. I think it is very reasonable. It makes a lot of sense about the interview being in-person. He said in his email they would consider alternative arrangements. He did mention that he passed my message onto the committee to discuss my option.
  20. yes, they want an in person interview-which I am weary about because of travel expenses. this guy Brenden-we talked about brian eno for like 20 minutes. I think it well.
  21. thi this guy Brenden-we talked about brian eno for like 20 minutes. I think it well. (we will see if I get in). Have you heard anything from them?
  22. Just got an email back. They do not cover expenses at all- I don't think i can afford that plane ticket
  23. if anyone cares -Southern Illinois University wants to interview me in person for a GA-ship-anyone know if schools pay for travel expenses for MFA applicants? Cool Opportunity though-its exciting.
