    Hi all, I've decided to apply again for grad school. The past two application seasons. I applied to Tulane (rejected) SIU-Carbondale (interviewed, but rejected-the prof interviewing hated my guts), And Portland State (accepted, but the funding was not enough for me to attend, the cost of living in Portland has gotten ridiculous. Aside from the MFA i am also applying to Art Ed programs. I am applying for painting. I also applied to SIUE for degree in Design and Information systems-having a decent job would be great for a change-so if nothing else works out maybe ill do this. I need an MFA program with great funding this year: University of North Carolina at Greensboro Tulane University University of Southern Florida University of Nevada, Las Vegas Alfred University (international MFA, i might apply to this) maybe some others its been a rough year for me trying to figure out what to do. Jobs, relationships, etc ART ED Texas Tech Northern Illinois University

    Try portland state university. It has an excellent social practice and contemporary art MFA. Im sure theyd be into documentary work.

    A bfa will help you conceptualize a medium of your choosing. You will also learn how to manipulate techniques to convey ideas. And speak about your work. A bfa is largely a studio based curriculum while a BA is more liberal arts based . Both are fine. You don't need to have gotten your undergrad in art to go to an mfa program.

    Absolutley, i was just telling my friend at work, some programs look at not only your work but your background and how you may fit holistically into their program. I've some people with great work get rejected from competitive programs. That is why its competitive. And that is okay. It does not always reflect on your practice. And the only thing to do is keep creating. And there is always next year.

    Denied from Tulane-not too surprised all things considered. It was somewhat expected. They only take a couple of painters a year. And i did apply last minute. Well on to next year. Its okay. I still have a nice in portland.

    Hey! you still got a chance. Wait listed at Northwestern? That should make you feel great. Your mid thirties is a totally reasonable time to get your MFA. I'm 28, this is my second year applying. Holding an art practice down is a mature thing to do. And it takes time. Better late than never, Things never go the way I think they will.

    Congrats! I knew they would be sending out notifications this week, it being two weeks after the due date. I have not heard anything from painting. If I don't hear anything this week, then I think I know my application's fate.

    sure did! I wonder how many applicants they get a year. I know its competitive. I think I have like a 5 percent chance. But hey, why not apply.
