You never know. I got my Princeton interview invite on a Monday, and my USC admit on a Tuesday. They're all over the place.
-
Seriously! There are a handful of acceptances on there, but I'm really curious how many students they took this year. I know they have a serious funding crunch right now, but still... Ah well. Obviously we are all just too cool for Berkeley.
-
Congrats on the JET interview! If I remember correctly, IUC should let you know by mid-March, so I hope you get into there too!

やった!もと日本語が話せる人! 今カナダに住んでいるけど、二年前横浜に住んでいた。そして、去年の夏、東大に研究をしている間、池袋に住んでいた。ay761さんは今日本にいる? /Yes, we probably should start our own Japanese thread. Also, ignore my awful grammar. I hardly write in the language anymore, only reading ^^;

I am planning on buying a car this summer. It may just be a used one based on finances, but I am excited about having my own set of wheels!

ありがとう!

First reject for me- just happy that I don't have to think about that school anymore. (I'm still on a high from my acceptance on Tuesday anyway ) Back to waiting on the others~

Just got my Berkeley reject, unsurprised. (Standard "go to the website and check your status" email.) Still reeling over my acceptance from Tuesday and my trip to Princeton next week, so the blow isn't too bad.

Oh god, that would be wonderful. I took the GRE twice since I did very poorly the first time, and the second time was even more expensive since I had to take the test in Japan! (They charge more abroad >.<) I spent nearly as much on application fees this year as I did to send scores out. Ugh.
-
I can't imagine doing that many applications. Last time I had a cycle, I applied to 7 programs, which in retrospect, I should have only applied to three or four of. This round I had 5 programs, and at times it still felt like too much. >.< Forever grateful to my parents for helping out with the app fees.

For graduation, reading proficiency is really all you need. You need to prove that you can do research in that language. I'm assuming you're doing Chinese history? In your case, spoken fluency in Chinese is also important so you can speak with scholars in your field in China as well as North America. I've noticed that for a lot of programs China specialists should also have reading proficiency in Japanese, so it's good you're starting now.

Haha, agreed! Though I think the majority of us are still losing our minds
-
Thank you! I hope you get good news soon! (I have my fingers crossed we'll get a round of Berkeley notices this week~)

Thanks everyone for the congrats! The Director of Graduate Studies for the History department sent me a message. Guaranteed five years funding package (with exact details to come soon), and an invitation to their visit weekend March 9-11 (which will be covered by the department.) Formal invitations and more official documents will be coming in the days to come. My POI actually emailed me yesterday with info about some other opportunities in the months to come, but did not get the acceptance till today.
-
And first acceptance for me Hopefully this will stop me from obsessively checking my email the next few days.
-
First official acceptance: Just got into USC! No financial package yet, but I got in!!!
-
Heard from a POI yesterday. Not an acceptance, but it sounds like one, just waiting for the adcom to get in touch with me (which should be this week???) Can I just have one for sure "yes you're in"?
-
Congrats annieca! Hopefully the funding will follow soon
-
Thanks arhodg! Hopefully we'll both get good news soon
-
Dear adcoms: please send me an acceptance for my birthday. It would be the best present ever. Love, kyjin. Going to will myself not to check my email every fifteen minutes today and actually get some work done/celebrate birthday with friends. We'll see how well that plan goes.
-
I'd say so. Congrats! Someone in my cohort had one of those phone interviews for Columbia this week! Don't stress, you'll do fine!
-
I wish, but no. I am really hoping it's just Americanists so far as suggested in the History thread, but no idea! Maybe we'll have more news by Monday.
