  1. Good luck to you both. I was in your position last year. Unfortunately, unlike MPH decisions, PhD decisions seem to take so much longer.
  2. The interview process in general is for a select group, generally slightly more or about the number that they would like to accept. Some schools do interview, while others don't-it's best to contact schools specifically to find this out. I can't speak for Harvard but I do know that Yale epi does interview and that all (or almost all) of the interview invites have been given out already.
  3. Meeeee too! Or should I say to..or two... :-)
  4. Sociomedical does to interviews-skype interviews. I saw a few other departments at Columbia SPH releasing PhD decisions so it made me anxious!
  5. Has anyone heard from Columbia Sociomedical Sciences?
  6. SlaNYC-It's hard not to get your hopes up with an e-mail like that! I feel that they wouldn't be reaching out at this point if you weren't one of the top candidates. I honestly think it's a good sign but crazy things can happen in those meetings. At least you know that you'll know (relatively) soon!
  7. Emory conducts interviews for their epidemiology and Behaioral Science and Health Education departments, not sure about the rest of the departments.
  8. There are schools out there that will let you pair GH with another concentration (UIC and Emory come to mind). While experience is definitely important in PH, excellent marks, a great SOP, and excellent rec's can make up some ground. If you are set on Columbia contact an admissions rep there and speak to them about your concerns. I also would suggest visiting schools before putting this off for 2 years. While a program may seem like your dream program on paper, reality is sometimes different (experienced this myself this past application cycle).
  9. I really liked the Kaplan online edition. It was a book that also allowed access to a website that had online practice tests. I also suggest the book the ETS puts out of old practice tests. I am pretty poor in math so I also used the Idiots Guide for the math section. It was INCREDIBLY helpful because the GRE has "patterns" that like to show up and this book definitely gives you hints into what frequently shows up.

Anyone have advice on a good resource to find private rentals in Virginia Highlands or Decatur (besides Craigslist)? Thanks!
  11. It would depend on how long you've had your application in. If you sent in last week then I would suggest waiting but from your post im guessing it's been awhile. I have corresponded with the dept. contacts regarding when decisions would be made/the status of my application. I have contacted via phone and e-mail depending on the school. I have had nothing but nice, positive responses. It won't hurt your chances as long as you are not doing it every day and are polite.
