  1. My end goal is to be an elementary school principal. I'm applying to ed. admin. master's programs that come with state certification to be a principal. After getting the master's degree, I'll most likely continue on and get an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in education. I think it could make sense for someone like yourself to get the doctoral degree and then go get the state-certification to be school principal. Although, this definitely isn't for every Ph.D. in education since quantitative research is a very different skill set than school leadership.
  2. That's a good point. I did this when I was bored. If I get bored again, then maybe I'll make spreadsheet of the rejection profiles from the last few years! I think it was helpful to see different types of students who were admitted. For example, HGSE does not seem to be afraid of taking someone straight from their undergraduate or someone with no "education experience." Also, I wanted to see if there was a "cut off point" for GRE or GPA. The minimums I found in this very, very small sample size were: 153 Verbal, 149 Quantitative, 4.0 Analytical Writing, and 3.3 undergraduate GPA.
  3. Profiles of the last three years of Grad School Cafers who were admitted to HGSE complete with minimums, maximums, and averages.
  4. Harvard University Press just published a new book written by a University of Michigan Professor of Education about the inner-workings of graduate school admission committees. She was granted access to meetings at top schools in a number of different departments. I'm planning on reading it to help pass the time until March.
  5. I went through the last two years of HGSE threads and compiled profiles of people who were admitted. Enjoy!
  6. I think HGSE's 3 year requirement for SLP is based on the Massachusetts Department of Education's requirements for principal licensure. My honest guess is that you need three years of teaching before you can receive your Massachusetts administrative credential. Whether or not they will let you into this principalship program without that qualification, I have no idea. You should check with the HGSE Admission Office. Good luck!
  7. Hope to see you on Appian Way!

  10. @tsgriffey Just curious, how are they recruiting you? I have good GRE scores and haven't heard from any schools recruiting me.
  11. I'm applying to four schools. Three are dream schools and one is a safety school: Johns Hopkins University (Safety School) M.Sc. in Educational Studies (Guaranteed to get in through TNTP) Harvard University Ed.M. Learning & Teaching Stanford University M.A. Policy, Organizational, and Leadership Studies (POLS) Program Columbia University M.A. Leading to Extension in Gifted Ed
  12. Don't most schools take the best score from each subject test? Retaking the GRE to boost that Quantitative score can't hurt you!
  13. If you are interested in Gifted Education, I recommend reading Dr. James H. Borland out of Teacher's College, Columbia University. His research and recommendations have completely changed how I view and teach the gifted. Furthermore, Columbia has a master's degree for gifted education. I'm pretty sure Dr. Borland teaches some of those classes. I'm looking into it myself. http://www.tc.columbia.edu/academics/index.htm?facid=jhb27 http://www.tc.columbia.edu/c%26t/gifteded/
