My significant other and I just booked flights to visit during the April 4th open house. I'm not sure if it is specific to SLP or for all of the Ed. School.

This thread had me smiling all day. Now, I'm smiling because I was accepted into the M.Ed. in School Leadership!

I was one of the people who started the groupthink that decisions would come out today around 3 pm. Today at 3 pm was just our best estimation based on several data points. The largest data point was the tip that current students were asked to call accepted students next Wednesday. We used that tip and previous year's threads to estimate that decisions would come out today at 3:00 PM EST. Read the previous few pages to see our full rationale. However, we are still not certain that announcements will be today. It is just our best estimate. With that said, I was intrigued by the comment from current HGSE student @elveintiocho How do you know for sure that decisions are coming today? Do you have inside info?

Last year's admission decisions were released at around 3:00 PM EST. Shout out to the lurkers who've been with us from the start of this thread! Good luck to y'all tomorrow

I found two pieces of corroborating evidence on page 18 of the HGSE 2015 thread. An accepted student was called by a current student on Thursday, 3/12/15. Another accepted student was called by his/her program director on Wednesday, 3/11/15. Admission decisions came out on Friday, 3/6/15. @Kompetent Your tip about current students being asked to make calls was definitely the linchpin in this investigation. @mjsmith Good work! I'm pretty much expecting it to be this Friday (3/4/16)!

@mjsmith or @dear_valentine07 Could either of you find where this was said? We could count how many days there were between calls from students and the day admissions decisions were released that year. This might give us a better estimate than we currently have. Haha, the anticipation is palpable in this thread.

I got a response from HGSE Admissions Office after I cleared up their question: "Thank you for the quick response. I will be sure this is included in your application for the committee to review."

I am inculcating myself with the claim that it will probably be next Friday, March 11th. Anything earlier would be a pleasant surprise.

I will gladly send a message to anyone who wants to know the question they asked me. It isn't juicy or anything. I just prefer to keep it private.

HGSE Admissions Office emailed me a question about one of my recommendations. I provided a simple answer to their question. Not a big deal, but it does tell us that they are looking into our recommendations. I'm interpreting this as good news for me; why would they waste time looking into the recommendations for applicants who they don't want to admit? Then again, it might be standard procedure. My response.

I agree with what you're saying. Can you refer me to some sources that show that HGSE accepts funding from the corporate reform movement? That's really interesting if it's true.

Forgive me as I am just a lowly HGSE M.Ed. applicant. My experience with the school is limited to one visit, 5 books, and about 50 videos. With that said, I think you are probably correct in your main point, which is that HGSE generally leans towards supporting the "corporate reform" movement. However, I really do not think there is any reason to believe that HGSE is homogeneously in support of "corporate reform." I really recommend The Futures of School Reform by Harvard professor Jal Mehta. I think it was a very fair debate of various educational reform issues by experts all across the spectrum. The people that HGSE invites to AskWith Forums also evinces their commitment to diversity of thought. Besides, the HGSE Ed.L.D. is only 7 years old and has a 5% acceptance rate. With that dearth of admissions data, it is difficult to make generalizations such as "no one from X university ever gets into HGSE's Ed.L.D." Plus, I am skeptical of a person trying to denigrate a rival institution- even if you respect person making the claims. I think the bottom line is that people like us want to go to Harvard Ed. because it is perceived as a leader in the national discussion on educational issues. If we think it leans too far towards one thing, then it is our job (as educational leaders) to use evidence to push HGSE towards policies that are best for our nation's children.

I think you may be oversimplifying the diversity of opinion at HGSE.

Besides the aforementioned Magoosh, here is the best resource I have found for the GRE. I think the best part is the practice tests in the links on the right. To answer your question, the GRE will not kill you. I recommend just seeing it as a test of how badly you want to go to graduate school. Certainly, there will be lots of studying in grad school. This is an opportunity to prove to schools and to yourself that you have what it takes to succeed. I studied for about 10 months probably 10 hours per week and was happy enough with my scores to not have to re-take the GRE. Study, study, study and then you can be confident going into the test. You can do this!

I have an interview at UT - Austin on Saturday, but it's for their Principalship Program- not the Ph.D. It seems like most of y'all are talking about Ph.D. interviews. Anyways, good luck!

Getting access to the financial aid portal does not signify anything about your admission decision. It is still exciting though!

This statement intrigues me. What are some of the options for Ed PhDs? What about those options makes us lucky?

Yeah, I looked around to see if doctoral students can get a M.Ed. en route to the doctorate. I didn't find anything about that, so I assume that all of those came from one of HGSE's terminal M.Ed. programs. It makes sense since there are so many master's degree candidates and HGSE is already familiar with them.

I thought y'all would be interested in looking at doctoral candidates graduating from HGSE in 2014 and 2015. Both of these lists are for the discontinued Ed.D. program, but the dissertation topics are still relevant for Ph.D. or Ed.L.D. applicants. It seems like a majority of their doctoral candidates first completed a M.Ed. at HGSE.

If you want to learn a language, I recommend going to Caracas instead of Cambridge. It would be a cheaper and you would learn the language more. Or, if you're set on auditing a language course, you could take a class at a Bunker Hill Community College for a fraction of the cost.

The Assistant Director of Admissions just emailed me! Why? To let me know that I need to submit another version of my transcript. Long story short, the pdf had a built-in expiration date and I had to send another copy. I don't think there is any significance here other than the confirmation that they are reviewing our applications!
