  1. Thanks to whoever posted that Rutgers had updated their website with decisions - I still haven't heard anything from them directly, but logged in and saw that I was rejected. Anyone still waiting on a decision might find the news online.
  2. I got the CUNY email and posted the first result...it was an individual email, but the information was definitely copy/paste style. I will be withdrawing my application, so hopefully that means good things for someone else's chances.
  3. I've only gotten one offer, but the deadline for written acceptance of the official offer is April 16th. I think they really appreciate early notification, though.
  4. Just found this thread. Berkeley is my biggest reach/best fit also, and if cost of living weren't so high it would be my pie-in-the-sky first choice. For reference, I applied to the medical anthro program to work with Nancy Scheper-Hughes, Paul Rabinow, or Lawrence Cohen. Probably should have gone with primary work at UCSF and mentioned Vincanne Adams in my app, but had a major lapse in common sense because it was a last-minute scramble to get that one in. Ah, well...nothing to do now but keep waiting...
  5. Still waiting to hear anything from CUNY here. Nothing but crickets yet. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know that feeling - just got accepted to my first choice today too. It's like being on a totally surreal cloud nine. So happy for you!!! I hope everyone on here feels the euphoria soon, soon, soon...
  6. Scroll up to the top of the page and check the nav menu tabs under the Grad Cafe logo...second to last one is Results Search. You can look for a specific school/program/department and see all the results that have come in so far and in previous years. It's true, though, it will start to take over your life...tread carefully, haha.
  7. We have so many of the same schools on our lists That's exactly how I feel as well... hard to interpret silence (and yet so easy to overanalyze)...
  8. Anybody feel like they bombed an interview? I just had one and it went by so quickly...I don't think I gave the kind of answers the POI was looking for, and talked too much about the wrong things... I wish I could go back and do it over.
  9. snowswirl, I just got an email this evening (after 6pm EST) - so they may still be sending out invites! Interviews are going until Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!!
  10. Same. Since I think it was "30 words or less" I figured they were skimming everything else, haha.
  11. keysopendoors - I got the same notice. I've also emailed back and forth with Richard, the academic coordinator, because there was some glitch with my writing sample. He said the faculty had reviewed the first few pages and asked me to send the remainder, which was garbled in the original upload. After I sent it, I got that email (today). I assume that email is going out to whoever's application they're in the process of reviewing...
  12. JHU is definitely reviewing applications this week, in case anyone is interested...
  13. This is definitely the thought I keep having. Every time a result goes up on the board...If I had applied there, I would already know! Why didn't I apply there? Did I even consider that program? Should I apply there next cycle after I get rejections from all the schools I applied to this year?
  14. FYI - a friend called Emory today to inquire and they have extended all interviews already, so if you applied and haven't heard, it's almost definitely a no.
  15. Well, it's nearly 5am and I've been lurking on GradCafe for about four hours, so it's time to join the fray. I applied to 10 sociocultural/medical anthro programs. My research interests are based in South Asia (the subcontinent, specifically Nepal) and are mostly to do with religious approaches to death and dying, and their effect on the development and delivery of end-of-life/palliative and hospice care. Stats: GPA: 3.66 (can't remember major GPA but around 3.7) GRE: 168 Verbal, 145 Math, 5.0 AWA No MA; fieldwork and research experience (including a Fulbright research grant); no real publications (4th author on one and "mentions" in two others) The application process was super draining, and I'm just relieved to have it over with. Now the anxiety is starting to set in - mostly about either getting in nowhere or getting in and having to stay out of academia because of financial issues. Any offer with no funding would be essentially the same as a rejection. But the prospect of a career studying and researching what I love is too exciting not to give it a shot... Good luck, everyone!
  16. Hi everyone. I found out today that I received a full grant to Nepal! I am thrilled and so excited. Congrats to all who are hearing good news, and I hope that other grand things are in store for those who aren't!
  17. Going by what's been posted on the spreadsheet, it appears that every country is different. There's a pretty wide variety of envelope types and sizes, so it's probably not good to draw conclusions before opening a smaller letter. Also, some people received packets or medical forms and others did not. It's yet another aspect of the Fulbright application experience that holds mystery! I never imagined that I would be waiting nervously for mail delivery, but since Thursday the anxiety has multiplied. I feel nutty! Hope this is the week, and it looks like for more than a few of us, it will be...
  18. Ahhhh! Thanks for the update! I also feel a little nauseous. Fingers crossed for everyone!
  19. Hi all. Congrats to those who have heard good news recently! I spoke to Cara Doble this week and she told me that Nepal's country commission decisions are in hand. IIE is waiting on the FSB approvals, and she said there is no way to know when they will receive word. Essentially, there's probably no way we will hear any further info before the letters go out. Here's hoping it's within the next two weeks...I am going to be traveling and it would be very unnerving to be away when the letter comes!
  20. When I emailed Cara Doble, she told me that the finalist applications are sent to the FSB in Washington, D.C. and to the foreign commissions at the same time. Why would they do that if the foreign commissions make decisions that are forwarded to the FSB? Based on that information, it makes sense that the applications selected for approval go back and forth several times, which is what makes the process so long (and inefficient, if you ask me). After all, if the info doesn't just get forwarded from one link in the chain to the next, there is a higher chance of backtracking and confusion. Anyway, I agree that it's grating on the nerves to speculate about such an opaque process. The time is going like molasses, but we'll all know sooner or later. And I also agree that this year's forum is full of encouragement and support! Cheers to sticking together through this trial.
  21. Hi everyone. Just a question: have any of you felt like you've gotten a bad attitude from a regional program manager this year? By all accounts, last year they were just as vague, but also somewhat sympathetic. However, yesterday I emailed the relevant regional manager to ask whether the applications were in Nepal or in Washington, and she replied with an email that I didn't understand and seemed a little condescending. The gist of it was that the process was "twofold" and no notifications went out until both approvals were received. I did not understand that by "twofold" she meant that applications are sent out to the country commissions and to the FSB in Washington, D.C. at the same time in January. When I emailed back for clarification, she got defensive, telling me her answer had been "perfectly acceptable." I feel a little stupid for not understanding what she meant immediately. However, it is really unnerving to feel like just asking a simple question is antagonizing someone who is an important liaison. I'm even feeling a little down in the dumps and wishing I hadn't asked in the first place, which strikes me as an unfair feeling. Has anyone else had any worries like this?
