My daughter is a grad student at UTD and I encourage you to fill out Fafsa. As a grad student you are considered independent so you don't have to provide parents income. She ended up reducing 5 or 6k each year in grants (not loans) as well as work study ( basically 10 hours per week at about $10 per hour). By applying, she even received some aid for her summer session. She also received in state tuition which was offered at acceptance. But my understanding is that it has since changed as they don't have as many to offer. UTD had been nice because the price stayed the same from your first semester (guaranteed tuition). I think she got 6k first year, maybe 2k for summer and 5 k second year. No work study during summer. Some classes have an extra $40 per unit fee. Basically, with her financial aid we paid: $5090 fall 2016 $6090 spring 2017 $4349 summer 2017 $4690 fall 2017 $4469 spring 2018 When she originally applied, I was expecting about 15k per semester (out of state tuition) for about 75k for 5 semesters. So I was thrilled with what she was given. i hope this info helps out someone.

My daughter was accepted in late Jan or early Feb (don't remember) and was given an April 15 deadline. She actually accepted earlier than that because her other top school gave an April 1 deadline, so once the decision was made to decline that school she accepted Dalllas.

I realize I am late to the party here, but Thought I'd share a few thoughts. My DD started attending last year and did receive in state tuition. However, after she accepted her offer, she received additional funding from the university.....$1000 from the department and $5000 in grant money and work study as well. That really helped. She then had a quick application for summer school (using her previous FAFSA) and got $2100 for summer school. Of course, we don't know know what she'll get for next year. I strongly encourage you to submit FAFSA. My daughter does live in Kessler Park (near Bishop Arts). Not too far from school and if you are interested in medical, it can help set you up for medical practicum in the south area. Good Luck!

My daughter received really nice funding from UT Dallas. She received in state tuition, which was a huge help. In addition, this year (her first) she received $5000 from TPEG (Texas Public Education grant) and $1000 from the department and 10 hours of work study (at $10 per hour) per week. This funding reduced her in state tuition costs. She will be applying for some funding for the summer program. Basically, her tuition expenses were $5090 for both the fall and spring. Next year, we are hoping for the same $5000. We don't think she'll get the $1000 department grant. She also may not be able to do work study, depending on her clinical hours.

It really depends. Some schools have an application deadline, but allow a week or two for all requested documents to be received, filed by the school etc. Others may have a hard deadline and it includes items being received. My daughter had a video submission that was accidentally not sent. Because the school never updated their student portal (items submiited months earlier weren't noted until after the deadline), she did not discover the error until after the deadline. They did allow her to resubmit it and she was accepted there. My daughters school allowed you to put a rush in for transcripts, although it's not really advertised. It did cost extra. Maybe ask your school about that?

I live in a high COL area (top 10 in the country) in California. Our starting salary for a SLP with 45 units beyond a BA would be just over 74K, if you include the stipends for a master degree, special ed stipend and working the 4 optional extra days. Our district has had some recent really good pay increases.

I don't remember when the UT Dallas deadline was, but yes, they definitely start informing students before the deadline. That's a school you want to get completed ASAP for tat reason. I believe my daughter had her app completed in late November or early December.

I am late to this topic, but wanted to say that while UT Dallas does not have a specific medical track, because they offer so many electives, you can create your own "medical track". Also, they have SO many different opportunities for clinical hours, you can structure your semesters to emphasize medical. For example, everyone does onsite clinical hours first semester, but you can work with your clinical advisor to have adults first semester. And you can do you kids rotation during summer, which is shorter. In terms of classes, they have lots of online classes to target very specific medical issues such as: Laryngectomy and Trachs and Vent . They also have regular medical based classes such as : Communication and the Aging Brain and Neural Correlates of Human Cognition: Lesion-Deficit Models,

Last Year, UT Dallas started accepting students January 10. TCU was March 7. University of Missouri was March 4. University of Washington was also March 4 and UOP was march 8 (dates may not be exact but close) Just a few.....

Well, here's an example. My daughter (who is currently in grad school in speech path) had these stats: GRE qualitative 90%tile, quantitative 55%tile, and a good writing score (5) GPA: 3.94 strong recs, good experience and observation of SLP's. Strong extra-curriculars (so wasn't just sitting in school studying) including leadership roles and graduated from undergrad in 3 years. We believe she had a good statement of purpose as well. Applied to 9 schools (accepted at 4, declined at 4 and withdrew from one that gives acceptances in late April, when she accepted an offer from a school). Your mileage may vary! Kanga
