  1. I have no idea how to prepare for the interview. How are interview days typically structured? I imagine it to be a cross between an open house and a job interview. I also have a phone interview for a NODA internship. Im not sure how thats going to go either.
  2. Well at least you got some good news today. Congrats!!
  3. Got the email from Michigan State: " SAA @ MSU Admissions Decision." Honestly, I wasnt all that excited when I saw it, and also not all that upset that I was rejected. The universe has a way of working things out in the end.
  4. I would be thinking the same thing. On the one hand I'd be thinking "I put all this effort, somebody better look at my application," but on the other hand I think it would be strange to forward it because then the higher ed program will have a sudden influx of applicants from student affairs.
  5. Whaaaaaa....thats crazy. At least you'll get your money back.
  6. I GOT INVITED TO INTERVIEW AT BALL STATE!!!
  7. I did the exact same thing!! I figured I have a better chance of getting in if I apply. It never hurts to try. According to the NASPA website, they get about 300+ applicants (but Im not sure when that was last update). It seems schools that have "a lot" of applicants are receiving about 150-200, where most other schools are less than 100. So its safe to say that UConn is really competitive.
  8. It's almost "mid-January" can the agony of waiting be over yet? hahaha. Im not putting too much hope into my UConn application though. One of my recommenders just didnt submit it. He was so quick to email me when I asked in the first place, but when the deadline came up he basically vanished. I had to get a last minute LoR in and it ended up being late. I also know it was very short and not very detailed. So Im not sure what to expect.
  9. fall out
  10. Im glad Im not the only one. I had every intention of submitting everything early, but applying to multiple schools makes that a little hard. It also doesnt help that Im a chronic procrastinator. Ive submitted 2 applications THE DAY BEFORE it was due, and I have one more thats due next week. I havent even started writing my SOP for that one. But after writing and rewriting SOPs for 4 other schools, Im not worried about stitching together pieces from the ones I already wrote. I feel that my writing has gotten better too. So suddenly Im concerned that my first few applications werent that great. This process is maddening....
  11. Im about halfway done with this application process and Im still finding it strange that none of the schools Im applying to make any contact with their prospective students. I know that the grad school process is different than undergrad (when I was applying to undergrad I got a flood of emails and stuff in the mail). I submitted my application to Ball State, and their application process requires admittance to the graduate school before applying to their HESA program and I didnt even get a formal "you were admitted to the graduate school, now you may apply to your selected program." Not a letter, not an email, nothing. I understand that grad schools arent actively trying to recruit applicants like they do for undergrad, but like I said, it seem very strange that I seem to receive no contact whatsoever. I feel like this makes the application process so much more daunting. Is this just the standard for grad schools. Maybe it helps weed out people who arent serious about applying or something? I'd like to know other people's thoughts and experiences.
  12. I havent had a lot of experience in one particular area of student affairs, but rather a little experience across many areas, so I dont really know what a typical career path looks like beyond entry level type positions. Basically, I dont know how to answer the common question of "what are your long term goals?" for applications because Im not sure what long term goals really looking like in this field. Realistically, what would be the next step? Who are the supervisors and other further up positions past being a resident director or academic advisor etc?
  13. hey can you add me/ send me the link? Im so lost with my SOP and need some constructive criticism
  14. I think the masters will be required if you plan on becoming a director or some kind of department head. Maybe even a PhD depending on how far you want to want to go.
  15. NASPA. Ive also looked through ACPA. Its basically the same list but NASPA lets you filter for specific criteria so I always refer back to that one.
