All of the coursework is listed on your regular undergrad transcript, right? I'd try to call CSDCAS again and hope to speak to someone who knows what they're talking about, but if that doesn't work it sounds like you can just use your regular transcript as it's all included there. Maybe??

Definitely! The only thing you might be out is the GRE fee, but if you end up taking it again, it will probably help you know what to study for the next time. I'd go for it. Good luck!

I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but you might try doing some searches because I know I've read about some interviews. They seemed to range from really casual to very intense and asking questions about course content to more like a standard job interview. Good luck!

The whole process is so expensive. What kills me is how different transcript costs are. One of mine cost $17-18 for one school because I had to attach a special coversheet per CSDCAS. The other two were $4 and $6.

Would an online speech science class work? USU's COMD 5070 with Dromey is a great class.

If it's through CSDCAS, I'd send them now and then do the update once grades are released because you won't want to wait until the end of December for them to start the verification process. That's what I'm doing.

One of the school's I'm applying to wants a one-page, double-spaced SOP, so that's about 250 words. I haven't even started trying to cutdown to that, yet. I need to, but it's definitely a really short statement.

I've been told that if the program doesn't specify, you should keep it to two double-spaced pages or about 500 words. If they do specify, you should follow their guidelines precisely, of course.

I didn't. I entered all three of my transcripts pretty quickly one afternoon, and they approved it the first time without coming back for clarifications. I entered it exactly as written on the transcripts. Maybe I got lucky on my verifier.

I know a facebook group where some current students hang out. If you'd like, send me a pm, and I'll give you the information. All distance education programs that I've researched require you to find your own externships, and most of them don't allow it to be as a paid SLPA. It stinks since distance ed students can't get scholarships so I have to pay more for less faculty support. That's life, though, if you can't do a traditional program for whatever reason. (Mine is that none of them are by me.)

Yay! Glad complaining about in online helped. They verified an app for me today, too, so I guess they're really starting to work on things.

The schools that I am applying to through CSDCAS require me to also submit an application to their graduate school, BUT they all stated I only needed to send GRE scores and transcripts to CSDCAS. Just something to double check as it's expensive enough to pay application fees twice without having to pay for all of the paperwork to be sent again. Good luck!

What have you done to study for your next GRE so far? What are your plans? Did you take the ETS Powerscore practice tests before you took the GRE? If so, how did those scores compare to your scores? Verbal scores tend to run a lot higher than Quant scores for the stats of all of the schools that I've looked at. I haven't taken a real math class in (mumble) 20+ years, and it's been many years longer than that since I studied geometry. My Verbal was 10 points higher than my Quant. I wouldn't worry about it.

As someone who is 20 years older than you and trying to transition into this field by getting a 2nd bachelor's, my advice would be to major in communication disorders. Don't minor, major and pursue it with extra-curriculars, research work, etc. if it is really your goal. It's a competitive world out there. I took ASL because one of the schools that I'm applying to has it as a required pre-req, but none of the SLPs that I've talked to use it more than baby sign level which you could easily pick up from watching Signing Time on Netflix.

That seems really helpful. I wish I'd read something like that before I took the GRE. I didn't really prep for the AW, and I got a good enough score, but his tips show me what I could have done better. Hope it helps others prepping for the test.

I know that some people have gotten into NOVA in that situation, but it is very expensive, and there is often a long wait to start. (Longer if you go online, I think.)

Both of the sources that I listed above are posted by universities and have helpful information. University writing centers will have helpful information. I wasn't talking about the actual departments. I think it's hard to get a definitive answer to this question because it comes down to the people on the AdComm. Some people love personal stories. Some people hate them. No one likes proofreading mistakes, and no one likes it when you don't answer the questions that they asked or don't follow the formatting guidelines. I had two people read my essay this week. One is a professor. One edits papers professionally. They had wildly different reactions to one section of my essay. Sometimes, it is personal preference.
