  1. Congratulations! Yes, I’ve heard some people get funded after applying 3 times.
  2. I laughed at mine too. There’s also a lot of “whataboutism”. Perhaps I’ll have a better reaction to the reviews in a day or two. For now I’ll just put them behind me. All I read in this forum are rejections. Anyone wins? 1600 applicants this year—that’s tough.
  3. Rejected with 3.33. One of the reviewers suggested a body of literature that is completely dismissed in my field, lol. Oh well. It’s not meant to be.
  4. Hang in there. It’s almost over…
  5. There is a PETITION circulating asking SSRC & Melon to reinstate the IDRF grant. I’ve signed. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/ask-ssrc-and-mellon-to-reinstate-the-international-dissertation-research-fellowship-program?source=direct_link
  6. Yes. That is odd. I’ve heard in mid-Feb too. Perhaps that’s not the dissertation grant one? Or perhaps one of those bounced emails so that they had to resend in March. Anyways, I’m in a different timezone, so every morning when I wake up, I have to pep-talk myself before checking my email. I try not to get my hopes up, so if I fall it won’t be too painful. *Sigh* Just need to get this over with so that I can move on.
  7. Nothing yet… Now I’ll see if I can enjoy the weekend without thinking about WG result…
  8. Finally received the rejection letter. Congratulations for the finalists! In case folks don’t know: you can email IDRF asking for reviewers’ comments on your application. I did that last year & they responded quite fast. Did anyone apply for WennerGren? I’ll be more active on that thread now. Fingers crossed ??
  9. Still nothing so far. Nothing in the spam too. Some people say no news is good news, but I’m almost certain that I’m just waiting for a rejection letter. I’ve sent an email inquiring the status of my application. We’ll see if they respond. (((My speculation is some of the reviewers got distracted with the harvard letters last week, so they couldn’t meet the review deadlines & kept asking for extensions. Lol.)))
  10. No portal this year, but I think you can email WennerGren & ask for your application status.
  11. I have received an email from Wenner-Gren that my proposal has been selected to move forward to stage 2. (2/17 5.15 pm PST) Best of luck to everyone.
  12. Same. They’re rather slow this year… For those who have heard back from them, do you mind sharing what your disciplinary fields are? I wonder if they categorize the applications based on disciplinary fields. Maybe some reviewers are faster than others?
  13. I don’t think that’s the case. They’re still hiring new employees & IDRF is still one of their most successful program. If I haven’t heard from them by the end of Friday, I’ll send them an email. I’m still holding my breath & bracing for impact. Eek!
  14. Still nothing for me. Yup, let’s wait ‘till Friday.
  15. Super anxious! This is my 2nd try & my school fellowship ends this year. I’m relying on the few external fellowships I’m eligible for as an int’l student. Last year they notified the finalist (transcript request) on Friday, and sent the rejections on Monday. However, this year might be different.
  16. Nothing yet so far? I had anxiety dream about this.
  17. Hi all, I’m starting a new thread for the applicants this year. Based on the timeline last year, finalists should be hearing from them this weekend. Please drop a comment if you’ve heard anything. Good luck, everyone!
  18. Ah, I didn't get it *sigh* Will try again next year. Congratulations for those who's been offered the fellowship!
  19. Reaching out to say hello... I did a round of PhD applications in 2015 and did not get accepted to all the three programs I applied to (not even waitlisted!). Cried for a week, picked myself up, and prepared for the next round of application (studied for the GRE, researched more PhD programs & professors, applied for external fellowships eligible for int'l student, etc). Tried again in 2016 and get accepted to 4 PhD programs out of 5. Currently attending ASE @ USC & now in my 2nd year. Years before that, I was rejected to the same scholarship program 3 years in a row to finally get it in the 4th year to do my MA! If you didn't get into your dream program, don't give up! My lived experience (of rejections and failures) helps me grow as a scholar and a human being. It was hard, but I wouldn't do it any other way
  20. Hi all, I don't think I've found this thread yet. Anyone applied? The result is out on April 15, so let's get anxious together...
  21. Hello, I'll be attending ASE at USC! Not sure where to live yet but for sure will live on very tight budget. Thinking about the Jefferson area close to the expo line, but my spouse will attend UCLA extension so might need to find a happy medium.
  22. Hi there. I've finally made my decision (It was a very hard decision to make!! So hard to turn down other offers...) I'm going to attend USC this Fall Reasons: "dream team" potential dissertation committee, very generous funding, spouse will attend UCLA extension
  23. I know someone who has been offered admission with funding, but I don't know if this person is going to accept the offer or not.
  24. Hi there, I'd really love your thoughts on LA's (USC area) transit system. I know LA's transit system is complicated, and it's not like SF or NY, but at least people don't have to wait at the bus shelter in the cold weather, right? How about biking? And if one decides not to have a car, does having zipcar membership helps?
