  1. I second mcamp's recommendation of Magoosh. I used it for a month and increased my score by 19 points. But I studied almost 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a whole month. Raising your score is entirely possible, but you have to work your tail off. Also, do you intend to get a master's or a phd? Master's--you definitely have a chance (after you raise your GRE score). Phd-Slim, you'll need more research experience. See if you can join a research lab as a volunteer or an assistant.

Beyond excited to be moving to NYC! Attending TC Columbia's Social Organizational Psychology this Fall! I am still trying to decide between on campus and off campus housing. Anyone in the same boat as me?

Congrats on your acceptance, everyone! I currently live in Philly but I am moving to NYC for school. My parents' home (new construction) in the Old City neighborhood has two rooms for rent. Two blocks from bars and nightlife on Market street and 5 minute walk to Chinatown for food! To get to UPenn/Drexel/USP--10 minute drive or 19 minutes via public transportation. PM me if you're interested! Pictures and additional details upon request. I love my city and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! Also, for those of you looking to live in Center City (aka Downtown) on the cheap, check about Robin Apartments. You can score a studio for $600! Basically unheard of in Center City. If you're not looking for anything fancy and don't own any pets, it is definitely worth checking out!
  4. Hello! I went back a few pages and did not find a thread for TC. I am attending the Social Organizational Psychology MA program this Fall! Will be moving from Philly- a bit nervous about the move despite the short distance. But I am SO EXCITED! Nice to meet you all! Also, is anyone looking for a roommate? I have been combing craigslist and rental sites but have not been able to find anything under $800. Applied for grad housing but it isn't guaranteed. If you have any other methods for apartment hunting in the Columbia area, I would love to know!
  5. I applied the very end of February and just heard back this morning. I sent you my stats via PM.
  6. I am so RELIEVED and happy to share that I received my first acceptance! Baruch sent me an offer this morning! I am now just waiting to hear from Teachers College. Has anyone else applied to their Master's program?
  7. Wow! Congratulations! It is actually my top choice and I'm anxiously awaiting decisions. I attended the open house and was very impressed with the faculty and the students who shared their experiences. I intend to go the consultant route so the program is a good fit for me. Ultimately, it depends on your goal. Are you aiming for a PhD down the road? This program isn't as research oriented and is intended to prepare students for professional employment rather than research. But as puppylover stated above, I would be interested in knowing your stats if you wouldn't mind sharing. I think it would help ease the anxiety consuming me (or exacerbate it, haha).
  8. I haven't been able to sleep the past few days due to anxiety over this process. It's crazy! Good luck everyone!!! I am trying to stay close to home so applying to mostly schools on the East Coast (All Master's Programs): 1. NYU 2. COLUMBIA-TC 3. LA SALLE UNIVERSITY 4. UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND How selective is NYU's IO program? Does anyone know? I know the school has a great reputation but it is virtually unknown in the IO field, according to my trusted friend, Google. Sending positivity to each and every one of you!
  9. AHHH! Thank you! So good to know I'm not the only one. Is it a better idea to email the recommender or call? Or both? I moved out of state so I cannot visit my professor at the university. I'm not sure what the protocol is. I'm taking my GRE on 12/18. I have been studying but do not feel prepared.
  10. Hello everyone! I spent the entire morning lurking and reading multiple posts...now I'm filled with anxiety. I am a 2016 Master's Applicant, and I feel like I am late to the game. I decided late September that I was returning to school and have been frantically researching programs and studying for the GRE. I took the GRE two years ago and did tragically (QUAN:147/VERBAL:152/WRITING:3) so I am pushing myself to do better this time around. I know PHD programs require competitive scores, but how much weight does it carry for Masters applications? I am concerned about the LORs. I was painfully shy in college and barely interacted with anyone, much less professors. There was one professor that mentored me on my honors thesis paper but we were not particularly close. I am still going to take my chances and contact her anyway. However, since most schools require at least 3 recommendations, would it weaken my application significantly to obtain 2 professional ones from previous and current employers instead of all academic recommendations? I am so grateful for this support group and I hope we can keep each other encouraged throughout this grueling process!
