  1. Anyone waiting for some WL news in order to decline a Stanford acceptance? I'm waiting for an offer from Stanford so just wondering.

  3. Ok thanks for claryfing. Thats kind of annoying on their part, esp. in conjunctiom with their visit having been so late Maybe you could still email the DGS informing him unofficially about your decision though.
  4. At the risk that I sound annoying (which I really don't want!!), could you not decline Stanford today if you already know you want to? (Via email, as most of us have been doing.) It is my top choice and I worry they will run out of time :(( Sorry if that sounded badly, I really didn't mean to!:) And congrats on Columbia!!
  5. Yeah no idea. Someone email Leiter? Maybe too many people trying to access it simultaneously?
  6. Let's not exaggerate with the negotiation point: most of the top schools (the private schools) don't negotiate the stipends they're offering, because 1) the stipends they're offering guarantee a really comfortable life in comparison to other programs, 2) they have a philosophy or policy of giving the same mount of money to every grad, so that there is no resentment.
  7. Cool Though I recommend setting up a ranking of these 5 places in your mind, because once it comes to choosing you won't have much time
  8. I'd say overall 1, or 2, or 3 spots down don't matter at all, in terms of overall prestige. When it comes to individual faculty members, of course - this depends on AOI.
  9. Good point. I've been wondering the same thing lately... But, then, I suppose prestige only comes into play when the difference between two schools in e.g. the overall TGR ranking is more than 4-5 spots?
  10. I feel you. Half of the bloody year... What's your #1 choice? UCSB would be awesome too, in any case, right?
  11. Great news, thanks! And presumably (or so I've heard) the housing keeps being guaranteed unless one decides to leave campus (then it's difficult to come back in)? Just making sure it's not just that it's only guaranteed for the 1st year.
  12. Today I declined my offer of admission at Johns Hopkins... I found it emotionally draining, as I've really enjoyed my visit there and their community, and I've been treated really kindly by them during the whole process. So, whoever ends up at JHU - it's s wonderful and supportive place, and you're choosing well!! Good luck to everyone wait-listed by JHU.
  13. Hi all, I may end up at Stanford from August onwards, too. I was wondering whether on-campus graduate housing is guaranteed (as long as you apply by the deadline before your 1st year), or if it's also a lottery if one gets it at all.
  14. Removed myself from Brown and Cornell wait-lists. I had good positions on them, so I hope this helps somebody sooner or later!! Also, I really hope to get into either Yale or Stanford...
  15. Yeah, but presumably the decision is between one and another program (in most cases), so - since accepting one offer (even off the WL) entails rejecting another - it does not make much sense to do anything after the 15th and put in trouble other applicants waiting (say, if you eventually don't accept your offer off the WL, you're not giving a chance to someone else who is after you on this WL to do so).
  16. Very courageous and thoughtful - good luck with your future endeavours!! Which programs have you declined? (Any chance it was Stanford and/or Yale?)
  17. Exactly. I don't grasp how Berkeley is ranked "rounded mean score less than 3.0" for Kant whilst having 3 good Kantians, and amongst them a star (H. Ginsborg).... -.-
  18. Do you guys think it's easy to get a written withdrawal from a program slightly after April 15th?
  19. This is a great great idea. Otherwise, f a few events in the 15th trigger a lot of WL movement, then we may be in trouble indeed!
  20. Correct! Best of luck - and patience - during the decision making process!
  21. Another Kantian, hey! What are you top choices?
  22. Nope. It's not important at all. I got into a Leiter top-10 place and got waitlisted at other two Leiter top-10 places with quite poor GRE
  23. Also got an offer for the Oxford BPhil! Funding info will come later in March. Will probably end up in the US anyway due to funding issues...
  24. Congrats!! Which school are you leaning toward?
