  1. ASOS, H&M, and F21+ have become some of my favorites. Also RebDolls and the occasional Old Navy purchase! Swimsuitsforall is a pretty good retailer as well. omg yes how could I forget about modcloth?! also @Need Coffee in an IV, how could I forget mall food court food omg..
  2. oooh, i'm a dress fiend so i'll definitely look into eShakti! thanks for the suggestion.
  3. yeah..it sucks that a lot of women have to resort to lying as well just to get men to leave em alone. i always have to hype myself up before the mall. i've always been a huge fan of online shopping though.
  4. see, i've not gone thrifting much..i think it's because i'm really impatient when it comes to shopping and super unwavering in terms of what things i like to wear. also doesn't help that i'm chubby and busty and hate trying clothes on. but yeah, not to go on a rant but ugh...i hate how much body-shaming and sexualization of people's bodies is deemed as acceptable in our society. i saw a graphic the other day on an fb page i follow saying something along the lines of "it's getting hotter and people can dress the way they want to feel cool, and you aren't allowed to sexualize or shame them for it" and the amount of shamey comments were revolting! also catcalling makes me so uncomfortable. also men just expressing interest and not taking 'no' for an answer even after i tell them i'm gay. it's so frustrating.
  5. how's the coverage on the bareminerals gel? i use the tarte amazonian clay powder foundation and i like it and all, but my skin is weird and dry and powder + dry skin is no bueno. i'm sure you'd look great! there's super easy tutorials for winged liner everywhere now. it's one of my favorite looks tbh.
  6. yeah. i cut my hair super short after my freshman year of college (i went natural and cut all of my relaxed hair off into maybe 1-2 inches of curliness) and since then kinda always presented super feminine. i mean...i love it. i'm a big fan of dresses/tunics + leggings combos cause they're comfy and cute! i also really enjoy makeup..i grew up with my aunt who has drawers and drawers of eyeshadows, lipsticks, perfumes etc and that kind of rubbed off on me. so makeup is an everyday thing for me..takes me about 45 minutes to shower and get ready in the mornings, but at the end of the whole process i feel great.
  7. i'd love that advice! i'm currently freaking myself out more than i should be! thank you. also i love a red lip! and i totally understand what you mean about the more attention when dressing up thing. i really dislike it. @Cat_Robutt what hippyscientist said is exactly true haha. but personally, i have a pretty straightforward makeup routine..neutral eyeshadow, winged liner, mascara and a colorful lip..but then there's also the foundation, concealer and primers too
  8. @Cat_Robutt what kind of skin/makeup things are you into? i'm...very much into makeup and getting more into skincare (pretty stereotypical femme here, i'd say ). in other news, i think i've found a place! it's a bit on the high end for my budget, but i've come to realize that i've been spending my money pretty badly. with more limitations, i'll be more than comfortable. i'm just freaking out a little about the first few months..gotta make my stipend stretch for a month and a half, but i'm sure it's possible.
  9. slightly freaking out about housing and i still have like two months before i move in! also it's weird thinkign about having to drive everywhere when i've been in the NE around public transportation for relatively all my life.
  10. Happy Tuesday all!!! I came to work early, then remembered I can't do anything cause I need to train the new student...but I think I've found a place! Cheap rent, nice complex, 15 mins to campus and my roommate seems really cool! I sent her an email about starting admin stuff for the apartment but she's yet to answer me back which is kinda expected cause holiday weekend and all but I'm antsy. If it doesn't work out, I'll have a back up at least...but no cat ;-;
  11. oh dear i'm glad there was no leish, though! i've been bitten a couple of times by sandflies (uninfected thankfully) at work, and it's not pleasant.
  12. yeah, it's fun! well, the mice were just used to produce antibodies..i injected em four times with sandfly midguts at different timepoints after blood feeding. i'm doing this work for a post-doc in the lab that's trying to look at protein expression in sandfly midguts after feeding in hopes of making a transmission-blocking vaccine. we study leishmaniasis, a vector-borne parasitic disease -- sandflies take up parasites in an infected bloodmeal, the parasites develop into their infective form after a couple days and are then transmitted when the sandfly bites a host. so he's hoping that antibodies vs midgut proteins might affect parasitic development in the midgut and potentially block or reduce transmission.
  13. yeah, i'm relieved. but at the same time, i wonder if i'm making a decision too soon and that makes me a little anxious. i hope your place is amazing and wonderful!! in simplest terms, an ELISA is an assay to detect and quantify proteins, antibodies etc. i'm testing some mouse sera to see the titre levels against sandfly midgut proteins!
  14. perfect! i will reveal that i'm not much of a drinker, so I don't know much about wine. my day's going okay! not much to do in lab except an ELISA so it's just sit around and hang out during incubations. i've sent a lot of housing emails and i think i've found a place! just finalizing some details but i may put a deposit down soon.
  15. what do you mean? i'm having dreams of taking a spoonful of ice cream then a bite of a donut, and washing it all down with a sip of moscato
  16. i'm glad it's better than it sounds! good luck!! also ice cream, donuts and wine sounds amazing.
  17. oh god, i'm sorry. is he set on that decision? that would be horrible to make you do your research again and rewrite... also sorry about your knee. at least it's an incentive to get some rest, right?
  18. i have checked padmapper, but haven't asked current students! thanks for the tip. i think i'll be able to find a good place! there's an area of town i really want to live in but it's kinda far from campus but i know current students live there, so maybe i'll try it.
  19. I was freaking out about not finding affordable places in Nashville..but I think while it's nice to live close to campus, a 10-15 minute drive is nothing especially if i'm going to be saving $400-$500 in rent. And the more residential areas are really cute and have tons of yard space which is nice!!!
  20. i built my first rig soon after starting my current job. this morning i had a very flighty idea of selling it...i don't even know how i could've thought that. edit: GTX 1070? i'm drooling
  21. yup...we get a bonus on the first day of orientation which is great, but i still think that won't cover the amount of money being spent to relocate. so i'm still slightly freaking out..
  22. i'm excited to start grad school but now i'm looking at the cost of everything...moving is so damn expensive!
  23. i'm doing well, thanks! trying to figure out housing and stuff atm, so a bit overwhelmed... how about you? happy belated birthday!!!!! also, i keep forgetting it's 4/20. i'm sure the metro will be very smelly on my way home.
  24. hello everyone! i feel like it's been a while and i hope you all are doing well! also happy hump day!
