  1. and hopefully minimal bridge-burning between your advisor, the professor, the chair, etc. etc. etc.?
  2. I CAN'T TELL ANYONE BUT YOU GUYS DON'T COUNT SINCE THIS IS AN ANONYMOUS INTERNET FORUM, I'M GONNA BE AN AUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Why? For birthday/Christmas? I resort to baked goods for things like that, but I do know people who have bought their advisors gifts.
  4. I guess I failed to convey my sarcasm - I have so much useless crap on my bookmarks. My first one is a flash games site I haven't visited since ~2008.
  5. What, you mean I don't need my high school email address saved? C'mon!
  6. I agree. I do want to know how they came up with the first episode though. Some bloke sits down in a meeting and goes "I have a great idea for a plot!!"
  7. No they aren't all that weird I actually (on accident) watched the third season before the first season. I loved the third season but honestly after watching the first episode of season one I can't bring myself to watch anymore because what the hell?
  8. @MarineBluePsy Congrats on your half point sending the university into an apocalypse!
  9. UGH exact same problem here. My closest friend here works in the same lab and it's so refreshing to take a walk to a coffee shop and chat for a bit on the way. And once you walk in, it's hard not to buy a little treat If you figure out a way to stop this urge, let me know! I keep forgetting that you're familiar with Cornell!! I'm not really a coffee fan truly, so the taste of Gimme! is lost on me. However, if you ever want coffee with what may be a lower cost of shipping, let me know, I'll pack some up and send it to ya.
  10. Ugh, same. There's a little cafe that sells Starbucks drinks in the physics building here. So easy to go for a pumpkin spice latte after a hard morning (even though the price still makes me flinch). I even bought a coffee press for the office but it's hard to keep bringing milk to school, and black coffee is ew.
  11. @MarineBluePsy I'm with you on the morning exercise. Plus you feel outrageously productive when you're working out before the sun is up! And that feeling carries over through the rest of the day
  12. I'm trying to be more conscious about how I spend my time. Working for 30 minutes without looking at my phone/Reddit/Facebook, for instance, and then taking a 10 minute break. Otherwise I think I worked for three hours when I really only worked for like 5 minutes
  13. A lot of people don't understand the pain of losing a pet. That isn't a small life thing. I'm sure your dog understand that you weren't able to be there. Take care of yourself.
  14. @hippyscientist If you want to be Fitbit buddies, let me know! I got one for Christmas last year and it really helped keep me on track by challenging other people in number of steps walked.
  15. Oh man, that's painful! I had that in undergrad - I'd take my computer (laptop) to school, download movies/shows, then take them back home and watch them.
  16. Oh your phone/tablet? Or do you have "pay by the GB" Internet or something?
  17. This is such a small/unimportant thing but has lifted a huge burden off me. Cable (read: Internet) company has been double charging me for the past 8 months. I call the company every month, and the bank every month to debate fraudulent charges, but this time I FINALLY got ahold of someone helpful. Now I'm waiting for my $500 refund. I'm so happy, and my stress level has decreased significantly. Happy new year, everyone
  18. One day I will do home improvement not because I broke something, but because I want to actually improve my home. I put a box of textbooks on a closet shelf because I'm an idiot, and the whole thing collapsed and put some pretty epic holes in the wall. It also supported the closet rod that held all of my clothes. *swears furiously*
  19. Oh man I'm so glad I'm not the only one who did that. I had a good laugh
  20. Yours are halfway through? That's interesting. Ours is an oral exam over "advanced undergrad" material - the purpose isn't so much to see what you know, but how you attack problems that you don't know the answer to. Or something. I'm toast.
  21. Can't get the Christmas tree apart, so I guess it's going to be an all-holiday tree
