  1. I second this notion. I hope to meet gingin some day.
  2. Oh... my bad. Still though, I'd give it another couple weeks.
  3. If they usually send out their decisions in early February, why on Earth would you contact them in early February? I don't think it would affect your funding, but they probably will not appreciate a superfluous email in their inbox.
  4. Today is a big committee meeting day? WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SHARE THIS? WHYYYYYY
  5. I did a couple of weeks ago, but I also was an REU student there last summer so I was maybe more "connected" and hence was admitted earlier. Not sure. I also know that they do at least a couple rounds of admits, so I wouldn't worry that you haven't heard anything yet.
  6. Man guys, I've already emailed Cornell twice since I was admitted two days ago. I'm not even there yet and I'm sure they're already regretting admitting me Update: they e-mailed me back and kindly reminded me that I am not the center of the universe, and told me to chill my butt. Sorry
  7. Okay, fair enough. Just avoid men with toupees and you should be okay.
  8. Okay, I laughed pretty hard at this one Best wishes. We Americans don't bite, I promise.
  9. Yeah, I'm in my 4th year of undergrad. Also, the papers are totally not me. I just happen to do research with a group that always includes students as coauthors... we don't have a graduate program, so undergrads at my university typically do publish. And thanks I honestly have no idea what I'm interested in, but I applied for AMO. And yourself?
  10. It was February 1, and I had been checking my email every 5 minutes. My professors were making fun of me... every 10 minutes or so they'd say "oh, it's been 30 seconds! better check your e-mail!" I had already gotten a pretty good offer from Boulder so I don't know why I was still checking... And then one left the room and the other stood up for a Kleenex, and I pulled out my phone. "Ah yes, it's been almost 20 whole seconds! You had better check!" he said. And of course, that's when I got the email from Cornell. Both of my professors and I were jumping up and down
  11. I honestly have no idea. My physics GRE score wasn't that great (750) and I come from a school that isn't even ranked nationally. I think my strength is that I have research experience (coauthored 5 papers, and had 2 summer internships) and, as much as I hate to say it... I'm a girl I hope that doesn't factor into things, but clearly it does.
  12. Guys... Two days ago, I got admitted to an Ivy League. Today, my nose has a huge bruise on it because I forgot you had to open a door before walking through it.
  13. A fellow peanut allergy? Today I rejoice! And I'm with you... Oreos, poptarts, Cap'n Crunch, Raisin Bran, Kit-Kats... the list goes on! Though they did just take the warning off Hershey bars a few years ago. Yay!
  14. You and I need to be friends. Phone and Skype calls are my worst nightmare.
  15. An excellent point... thanks, I definitely needed that!
  16. I've come to the same conclusion as well. My one interview was full of "I don't know"s, "uhhhh"s and staring at my feet. I was surprised they didn't add me to a "black list" of grad school students to never accept and email it around the country.
  17. Well, I only had one interview If more programs in physics interviewed, I would be totally screwed. I have the social skills of a tree stump.
  18. That's also one thing I find myself talking about in interviews. "awesome", "cool", "sweet", and "nice" are words I use way too often. I think that when one of the professors was describing his work I just said "interesting" over and over. Probably 6+ times in a row. Gah!
  19. Bad idea. You'll come across as very impatient, and programs have deadlines for a reason.
  20. I love that this forum is getting quite populated now as we head into February...
  21. Be sure to e-mail them at 3am THEIR time, and get pissy when they don't respond immediately.
  22. @nevermind Thanks for the info! Do a lot of people commute to Cornell (i.e., is there enough commuter parking to go around?)
  23. Wow guys, looks like February 1 had a lot of good things for most of us today
  24. I know it isn't cheap... but compared to even Boulder, it's much better. I've given up on being able to maintain the Midwest cost of living
