  1. You summed it up perfectly! I'm a bit distressed that I didn't have a good application for the GRFP, so I don't want to get overhyped about it, but TWO MORE WEEEEEEEEKS!
  2. WOW!!! Congratulations!!
  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. If I quote someone just to say "haha", that's probably what happened.
  4. From what I hear, a lot of schools have policies against this... especially this late in the season, I'm not sure that it would overcome a rejection. But a waitlist... well, it might move you to the top, I'm guessing.
  5. Yeah... when I think about how much I paid in application fees I die a little inside...
  6. I think the number of applicants that never hear back from schools is larger than you think. My friend applied to 15 grad schools two years ago, and only heard back from 9. And got into one
  7. I really didn't put much effort into the application though, like literally only one person (and not in my field) proofread my essay... I'm toast. Oh well... I'm due for some rejections.
  8. Oh man... those well-meant "I bet you'll get at least X acceptances" put on so much pressure. if I get the NSF, I'll be the first person from my university to have done so, and all of my professors know it and keep reminding me. NO PRESSURE THERE
  9. Right??? I want to simultaneously send the NSF hate mail and chocolate chip cookies.
  10. Dang... that does put it in perspective. I already know where I'm going and live in the same country, and I'm pulling my hair out anyway. I can't imagine having to move across the ocean.
  11. Does the e-mail go out as soon as they put up the results?
  12. Well crap! I know a lot of people who did that... unfortunately, the professors who promised to proofread my essay waited until LITERALLY the day it was due. And they are 1000 miles away and didn't answer phones/emails for the two months before. So I drove 1000 miles overnight... ...yeah, I'm still bitter about the whole application process. Seriously though, with that much effort going into an application, I really hope you get it!
  13. OMG. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS. THERE IS HOPE FOR ME!!!* *except that I didn't put very much effort into my application. I'm kicking my past self right now...
  14. Whaddya mean?
  15. Put so eloquently
  16. For some of us the waiting for grad school admissions is over (and a lucky few we are!) but now to turn our attention to the next nail-biting moment... when the NSFGRFP recipients are announced. Anyone waiting with me?
  17. Wow!! Congratulations!!!!!!
  18. I agree, if they didn't admit you but still sent you that e-mail you need to kick some butts.
  19. My first two acceptances came at 1-2AM. So honestly, who knows??
  20. Guyyyyyys, I went to Cornell to visit and the prospective student who was staying with the same host as me was like "I KNOW WHO YOU ARE ON GRADCAFE!!". So if you see this... hi Diana
  21. Nope, $750 a year from what I can tell. But I just came back from a visit... I think it might be feasible (though annoying) to park for free in a neighborhood north of campus and then walk. At least, that's my current plan
  22. You definitely need to word it exactly like that.
  23. Shweet, thanks! Now I just need to officially get my ID number or whatevs so i can get my permit. Eeeeee!
  24. Real talk though.... when i want to go to downtown or wherever... is there a place that's reasonably far from town that still has reliable bus service so that I can park there and then ride? I just signed my lease and it's too far out of town for TCAT but I'd be willing to drive close enough to pick up a bus... Now to get my $750 commuter parking permit :'(
  25. But but but... the parking... and the city driving... I drove through downtown and decided I would just stick to the outskirts for now
