Just got word that I'll be getting paid to work with my preferred PI this summer... I'm really excited because this guy is awesome and his research is really interesting, but at the same time, kind of wishing I had decided to roam around Asia or something for the summer. Or you know... for life. I try to live life by "when I'm 80 and looking back, will I regret it?" and right now I'm not sure if I'll regret being a typical student, or if I'd regret spending so much money on travelling adventures when I'm not really a people person... oh well. And this is only my quarter-life crisis, I can't wait to see what happens in a few more decades

Neist, I'm sure you will, and I'm hoping the same for me. My thought is that you will finally be where you're meant to be, surrounded by people with the same goals, ambitions, and interests as you. Keep your hopes high!

Maybe it's just that they're not comfortable with technology or don't know how you'd feel about it.... My parents are the same, they seemed kind of "meh", but they told my sister that they're so proud of me just don't know how to share it. I imagine that's the same for a lot of parents... I'm sure they are hella proud of you!

The fact that it puts you at ease but makes me flip the hell out is probably not a good sign for me... My application depends on that they look at it, say "yeah, she cool", then accept me. if they put any more thought into it, I'm doomed

This thread was a great idea. I always feel bad about celebrating in the other thread amongst the "I'm doomed" posts.

I'm jealous, my contacts were always too thick and they hurt soo badly. But I guess it depends more on each individual. And I hear ya.. my glasses are so thick, there is some chromatic aberration, meaning that red colors are "bent" differently than blue colors... so looking at a purple LED, I actually see a red and a blue LED. Which would be hilarious, if I weren't doing optical physics Cheers to the pity due to lack of corrective surgery. Bah humbug!

Looks like last year the maintenance notification came out on March 27, and the results went up 3AM March 31. So this year the maintenance notification might've come out today in order for the results to come out on Tuesday... all signs are pointing to Friday.

I think I've hit my quarter-life crisis... my friend is going to be dyeing my hair blue next weekend. This would be hilarious if you all knew me... super conservative, thick glasses, never so much as worn makeup or gotten highlights... my only regret is that my research advisors may dye (pun intended) of shock! Also on an unrelated note, I wonder if anyone shares the same irrational fear as me... the fear that when I'm asleep, I'll start sending e-mails while I'm asleep or something and accidentally send something incredibly rude to a potential PI or something... no one?

That's the same position I'm in... and I already have 3 years of fellowship through Cornell so I wouldn't have to TA anyway, but of course I didn't know that would be the case when I applied. Right now I want to get it so that the professor I work for doesn't have to pay me.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm so sorry for those of you that don't have supportive spouses... I wouldn't be able to take that. My own thoughts are pessimistic enough, they don't need help!
