Congrats!! I'm also a TA, and I love it. I'm sure you will too And yes... money and resume building! Wahoo!
-
And we will promptly dump it into the harbor

I concur! I spent the summer there for an REU program... I fell in love with it. Seriously I couldn't be happier right now... and my professor was even okay with me squealing and running out of the room as soon as I saw the subject line of the email Any suggestions for finding housing? I'm not a roommate person so it seems I'll be living on some corner of Pearl St shaking cans for spare quarters...
-
I would but I have class in 8 minutes. Sitting still has never been so difficult Yeah, I seriously can't believe it. I had a really shoddy subject GRE score and I come from a school that is not even ranked in the top 300 for physics. I have no idea how this is happening right now - I feel like I'll wake up from this dream soon!

Today I was admitted to Boulder with a $10k signing bonus. My top choice! HALLELUJAH

I'm also having a "fat friday"... homemade pizza It sounded good but after describing yours, mine sounds kinda meh. Congrats @piglet33! Thus it begins

You have to promise us to make at least ONE snowman.

I agree. I have a great offer from a great school, so now that my life isn't hanging in the balance, I'm just annoyed. And like you said, bored with this very expensive haircut.

Well.... tonight was the first time I saw a round of acceptances go out to a school I applied to, and didn't get one. Can I join the pity party? Edit: I just realized how arrogant this sounds. But 95% of physics admissions decisions haven't been sent out yet.... it's just the beginning of the season for us. I'm not some amazeballs applicant (*applican) who got one rejection and was sad... it's the first of many for me Edit #2: I JUST REALIZED THAT THE EAST COAST GETTING BUCKETS OF SNOW MAY AFFECT ADMISSIONS DECISIONS IF IT CLOSES UNIVERSITIES

Lately, I've been more of a (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ JUST REMEMBER GUYS. YOU ARE NOT AN APPLICANT. YOU ARE AN APPLICAN!
-
I wish I would've asked that question to you guys months ago before any interviews. I've always bombed that question Thanks! I'm not sure why this is such a slow week for acceptances/rejections for physics. Gah!
-
Also, real talk... what do you say in an interview when asked "Tell me about yourself?"
-
When I had a phone call with a professor from UIUC, I said "You probably know more about me than I do myself after reading my application, my whole life is on there!" Could I have said anything stupider?

Very specific, too! LOL! -
@rosali You definitely ARE qualified. If you weren't, no one would have written you a letter of recommendation.
-
@piglet33 Congrats I'm sure that few weeks of waiting didn't help the anxiety any! Also, @rosali I was also told to apply to some safety schools. I went to go visit an Ivy League (hahaha!) since it was close to a school where I have an ACTUAL chance, and they told me that I might want to look into a school that isn't even ranked in the top 200. THANKS BRO

@rhombusbombus Before applications were due?? What, did you win a Nobel prize?!
-
I know this is totally a "first world problem", but since a couple of students in my department haven't heard back from the schools they're applying to (except for rejections), I feel bad about broadcasting to the world my good news about having gotten accepted into some great schools. I posted about my first acceptance on Facebook but nothing since then, and it is driving me crazy! I want to run around high-fiving everybody! Also, I neglected to tell my advisers that I got accepted to WashU for a whole day, and they said that as soon as I hear back from anywhere they want me to tell them ASAP so that they can celebrate/cry with me. I wish there were a way to communicate in words how much it means that I have such great advisers who care about my grad admissions almost as much as I do.

You should've left it in

Really? In biomech you don't have to do lab reports? I suck at writing essays, but a 30-40 page lab report for me is better because it's not about "how things sound", but how correct they are.
-
Yes! "Oh, [best school in the country] sent out all of their acceptances today! They must be putting mine off to prepare a fellowship for me "... even though I have a horrible subject GRE score and come from a school that isn't even in the top 200. OBVIOUSLY my application is so much better than everyone else's

Never re-read anything! It will only make you despise yourself!
-
Also true... but I also don't see anything wrong with teaching them something with a footnote that says "probably". Specifically, how forces aren't instantaneous but are intermediated by particles; my personal favorite is teaching mechanics, so I can't really use the photon as an example, so I have to resort to something kind of iffy like the graviton. Good point though Man, now I'm all excited. Look what you've done!

I'm struggling with this issue right now. I got an invite to Seattle and I'm not particularly attached to the school... but an all-expenses paid trip across the country? Hmm.... In my opinion, you shouldn't feel bad. They know that most people they invite won't attend.

#YOLO On a side note @nevermind... doesn't that magical list of when places historically accept/reject people sort of get depressing/make you anxious? I thought it was a great idea so I started to make mine, but then I realized that if I get an e-mail during "acceptance week" and it's a rejection, I'll just feel that much worse, you know?
