Deal! Though after all those app fees, it's going to be quite a shoddy lounge
-
I'm going to laugh so hard if you see each other on interview day. Keep us posted. I was thinking it'd be quite easy to teach things like torque and centripetal force... the more I think about it, the more I want to give up on grad school just to do this.
-
I'd be up for that. Of course, as a physics girl, I've always wanted to make a combination strip club / tutoring center. I mean... what?
-
I had never heard of this resource until now. I just did this, too. Please pick me up an application to Applebee's as well. Also, I've had to keep pretty quiet to most of my physics friends as well, since some of them are also applying but with no research experience, sub-3.0 GPA's, etc... so I have a feeling a lot of them won't make it in anywhere, and I don't want to be the bragger who does.
-
I'm with you. I'm not sure how my friends put up with all of my complaining. I can barely put up with myself! Ah, well... different strokes for different folks. I could never do well in a geology class, and I also flounder in chemistry.
-
That's fantastic! Over the summer I found a fantastic used book store by me and picked up 8-9 books... still working through them Props to you, and a great way to stay busy during the waiting season.
-
I'm in the same boat you are, but here is the gist I have gotten: Typically how it works is your department will choose its students, but in order to be officially admitted the "graduate school" has to admit them. You can always clarify, but a lot of admissions notifications do come in this "unofficial" format, since it may take awhile to get your official letter. It can't hurt to clarify, but it sounds like you got in.

@Need Coffee in an IV 10?! I'm sure those will keep you busy for the next few months! @anthrostudentcyn Might as well give it a shot. I mean, they probably already have it typed out, so it shouldn't be any more inconvenient to ask for it now than it would have been a month ago.
-
That's great! I may take you up on that if I accept. I'm so excited to have been accepted somewhere with such a great cost of living, and a mighty fine university too.
-
I bet that if you bribe the academia.edu admins with enough cookies, they will tell you their IP address

I GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL. REPEAT. I GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN. ANGELS ARE SINGING. PARDON ME WHILE I GO DANCE NAKED IN THE STREETS!!!!!!!!!

Wow, really? 1-2%? Why is that? -
ROFL! People have gotten their acceptances revoked due to clerical errors before
-
Deal! You can have Seattle, I'll take Boulder. I'll call to let them know of the decision in the morning.
-
I agree (also applied to Boulder and Seattle!). I spent the summer in Boulder (and it's my top choice now). I paid $700 for a shoddy two-bedroom apartment in a crappy neighborhood, and here I pay $500 for a nice one-bedroom. At least if I don't get in, I'll be able to convince myself that I wouldn't have wanted to live there anyway (which is a filthy lie. Boulder can have my babies).
-
Oh, that's good to know, thank you. I'll file that under "information I hope to some day need to use".
-
Oh goody, a 270% increase in rent! JUST WHAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED
-
Yes, that was one of the places for which I was looking at apartments. I'd really like to live alone, so I think it might be cheaper to buy a private jet and commute from Illinois
-
I'm glad I'm not the only who has already scoped out apartments near my top schools. I mean hey, I'm going to be sad anyway when I get rejected, what will a few more tears hurt? Although my top choice schools seem to be in very expensive areas. Coming from a farm town in the Midwest, the costs of living there make me want to vomit.
-
I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you applied to >1 place? Give me a few days, and we can wine together!
-
That's the approach I took as well. Taking one actual class and one for fun (Always wanted to learn Java). And then taking 6 credit hours of research and TAing 8 courses. $$$$$
-
Is anyone else amused by the number of typos on the results page? A lot of people are going to a lot of different "univeristies" to "studu" different things.
-
This. I see all these people applying all over the country (as I am) and felt like maybe I was the only one who was terrified to move away from the place I've lived my whole life. I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone. Thank you.

Fair enough. Two weeks is probably best.
