  1. I also applied for Physics. But I literally don't know of any programs that are finished sending out acceptances yet. It's not time to get disheartened quite yet!
  2. That's my approach too, @MarineBluePsy. At some point, you have to realize that these admissions committees with all of the available information will know who fits in best with their department, and hopefully keep "politics" to a minimum.
  3. Then you ate it wrong. That's what you do with yummy bread. You eat it all with no regrets in one sitting.
  4. I'm on the opposite end... I've been doing research (continuing a summer project) with my top-choice school for the past few months. It's mostly programming but obnoxiously tedious. I had been working on it quite faithfully until I got admitted to the school for grad school, and now I just can't find motivation
  5. Gah.... really?! Did you e-mail her and make sure she knows? Maybe since she works there she can correct it.
  6. Mmm... gushers are my spirit animal! Mind sharing?
  7. Instead, I responded to his e-mail with the following: ________________$$$$______________$$____$$______________$$____$$______________$$____$$______________$$____$$______________$$____$$__________$$$$$$____$$$$$$________$$____$$____$$____$$$$________$$____$$____$$____$$__$$$$$$$$__$$____$$____$$____$$____$$$$____$$$$________________$$____$$$$______$$______________________$$__$$____$$______________________$$___$$$__$$______________________$$____$$__________________________$$_____$$$________________________$$______$$______________________$$$_______$$$____________________$$________$$____________________$$_________$$$________________$$$__________$$________________$$__________$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  8. No, for fake emails, I win on this front. One of my professors emailed me to ask if I could cover for a TA in one of his classes. Just to mess with me, the subject line of the email was "Admission to Cornell University".
  9. Also, on my SoP for my top choice school I accidentally said "I am agree" instead of "I am inclined to agree". I got a great offer last week. So it absolutely means nothing. PS, I might have said this in the first post... my old username is Dishsoap.
  10. That would be a cruel thing for a troll to do. Just randomly visit the LinkedIn/academia.edu profiles of prospective grad students in late January
  11. Ooh, they went to the trouble of Private mode? Ha!
  12. Man @gingin6789 they should call you butter, because you're on a roll
  13. Man... it just hit me that there's a 95% chance I'll be moving out of state in the next few months for grad school. I've never lived more than an hour away from home (except for a summer in Boulder... and then I couldn't wait to go back home at the end) so the thought really scares me. My parents come visit every weekend and I sometimes drive home for dinner (~45 minutes away) and I realized I won't be able to do that anymore. I'll be moving to a town where I know no one... I know some of you are even moving to different countries - mad respect.
  14. I dunno, I think gingin needs to get the classic California staple (if she hasn't had it yet!) - In N' Out Burgers.
  15. @gingin6789 Holy crapballs! Please tell me you took some candy You deserve it! Congrats! Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that the best day of your life has already passed
  16. Yes, I would also be quite shocked that they would be (in my opinion) so inconsiderate.
  17. Is it obvious that you will be staying overnight with them? If so, I'd say it is an oversight by the department... surely they wouldn't expect you to stay with a guy. If I were in that situation and were asked to stay with a male student, I'd kindly ask if there were another option by which I could stay with someone of the same gender.
  18. Well yeah, if their "offer" is that unclear, of course it has happened before.
  19. say whaaaat?!?!?! That's silly that their offer would've been worded like that! EMAIL ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA AND TELL THEM haha!
  20. That doesn't sound like halfway, that sounds like fullway
  21. Nice! And yes Michigan is in the top 10 for physics... I was really excited to get in there.
  22. This morning my e-mail was phished (an e-mail I haven't used in years) which means that everyone who has ever sent me an email (or received one from me) received porn in their inbox this morning from "me". That's right... professors, friends, family (sorry Grandma!)... I deactivated the email previously but apparently there's nothing else I can do. Every time this happens (about once or twice a year) it just reduces me to a ball of tears (I'm very quiet/shy so this is just endlessly embarrassing).
  23. Hahaha.... what a teaser!
  24. What kind of info did they ask for? And what kind of stuff to read? Like papers and such? Maybe someone who is interested in working with you? Getting a vague email like that sounds terrifying... what are they thinking!
