  1. I haven't posted on here in a while, but I realized earlier today this was probably the night Yale interview decisions would be sent out. I applied last year and got rejected; that weekend was a total bummer, but in the subsequent weeks as I began producing new work I became really excited about the direction it was going in, and over the last year I feel my work was matured and progressed exponentially. I didn't apply this year but very likely will next year, but I wanted to write this post in case anyone here is feeling bummed out from a rejection to let them know that this feeling will pass, and please keep up the hard work. P.S., congrats to the users on here who've landed interviews thus far!
  2. Hear hear! I couldn't resist checking to see if any action started yet, but I'm going to forbid myself from coming on here for one more month lest and early onset anxiety kick in.
  3. I applied to UCLA's MFA photography discipline and received my rejection notification Thursday morning. I talked to the chair of the department of my BFA alma mater a couple of years ago about UCLA's photo department, and he told me that they admit only three students per year, which would be very crazily-selective if true.
  4. I'm in the same boat. I interviewed with SFAI last week and I received a negative response from the other program I applied to, but mentally speaking I've already moved on from this season of applications so I can more lucidly produce new work and head into next year's round with even more artistic ammunition and really gun for my dream programs. Best of luck over the next several months or so, I'll probably be running into you again on a new freak-out thread later this year
  5. Thank you, Zeus! Your advice was very helpful. I interviewed with a faculty member from the Photography department, probably because I applied with two specific projects based solely in the medium, and we had a very nice and engaging conversation about my work and about SFAI (I also eventually cited an artistic reference who was an alumni of the program and even taught my interviewer, which definitely helped spark the conversation). The interview was short at just about twenty-five minutes, but he asked interesting questions that enabled me to talk about my background and my work in some detail, and he seemed pretty satisfied with my answers and the subsequent questions I had about the program. I did feel like a flubbed a couple questions with answers I felt I may not have worded as smoothly as I could have since I was a bit nervous, but afterwards I concluded that my intended responses probably went through regardless of some bad wording on my part. Thank you once again for your assistance; I really appreciate it, and good luck during the rest of this process!
  6. Congratulations on landing your interview with SFAI! I'm also a photographer that was invited for an interview with them that I'll be doing via Skype tomorrow. If it's not an inconvenience, would you mind sharing any takeaways from your interview experience? I only applied to a couple of programs this year to test the MFA waters before I apply to more programs next year (I'm heading towards 25 and only just received my BFA a couple of years ago), so any advice or tips you could share would be greatly appreciated.
  7. A friend of mine told me she got an email invitation for an interview from Bard on Wednesday, but since we have last names on the opposite end of the alphabet I've been holding out hope (though I''m close to giving up) for the rest of the week that I might still land one depending on how their system for rolling things out works.
  8. Small world! It's great to see that you're based in San Diego now, I hope you're doing well and that your MFA application process is going smoothly. I'm slightly terrified of the possibility of relocating to Cali since I've lived on Long Island all of my life and I've created photographic work only here (including documentary, still life, and landscape images). Do you have an advice for a working artist who might potentially relocate to a totally different location and climate?
  9. Congrats! I got an email invite to interview at SFAI earlier this evening. Are you planning to do yours in-person? I'd love to ideally, but I think I'm going to wait a week or so to decide since I'm based on Long Island in NY (and three of the other four programs I applied to are on the East Coast, so I want to wait out for more decisions before I make the call to book a cross-country flight).
