  1. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Thanks for the heads up. I dress nice because I adore fashion. Not only do I have a huge interest it in, my mood is heavily affected by what I'm wearing. Business casual with modest makeup, I'm ready to work. Cute casual outfit with bold lipstick, I'm ready for a day out. Sweats and a t-shirt, I'm ready to workout or go to bed. Folks tend gender me more correctly the better I dress. I get ma'am'd way more in a dress, boots, and makeup than barefaced, lacrosse jersey, basketball shorts (my go-to activewear). You don't have to be interview ready every day in grad school. It really depends on your program. For my GA position, I'm supervising undergrads in an office setting and acting as a university rep for outside businesses/organizations. Much different than a classroom and lab. That being said, I'm a newbie to beauty & health products. Still figuring out a regimen that works for me.
  2. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny That is very tough news. I know it is hard being so far away from family when this is going on. Find ways to let your emotions out: run, cry, scream, lay in bed all day. We're here to help too. I'll be praying for you and your mother.
  3. @Cat_Robutt Kids can be a handful. Once you set a rhythm and establish connections, it's a really rewarding experience.
  4. @Cat_Robutt Financially, I'll be okay. I'm on a strict budget plus I have friends in the area to rely on. Mentally and emotionally, I have my room to hide in. Also gotta mention this is a live-on position surrounded by 8th-10th graders. What doesn't kill ya, eh? Humidity is my worst enemy. I chose the PNW mainly for that reason. Had enough of it in being from Georgia.
  5. @pterosaur The heart wants what the heart wants. Day Two of my summer internship and I'm already drained. My payroll and work email has yet to be processed, my co-worker is *extremely* extroverted, I still don't fully understand my position. Aaand my first paycheck isn't until July 25th. Help.
  6. @Cat_Robutt It's an awesome show! Watched it all the time growing up. I second @hippyscientist. In general, there is no excuse not to budget. When you're in grad school, it's a lifesaver. I've already told myself I'm forgoing any leisure clothes shopping (my weakness) and putting something in my savings per month. In related news, my summer job begins tomorrow. Chillaxing with friends before I start training. Also found out I receive my first paycheck the end of September. But it's only for two weeks instead of the full month. :|
  7. Ooh...very snazzy. Looks like a suitcase! Would definitely get the job done. P.S. We *are* really nice business people. We're employees of higher education, which is a part of the government. So actually, we're really nice government people.
  8. I had one back in elementary school. Besides it occasionally hitting your feet, they're really nice. Spacious, no strain on your back. There are some that convert to traditional backpacks.
  9. Hm...no-go to backaches. You could always try rolling bookbags. Might seem childish at first, but I've seen professors rock ones and no one questioned them.
  10. @sjoh197 I'd buy the first one for style, the other two for function. Will you have a lot to carry?
  11. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny OMG! Finally someone who doesn't watch movies! I told someone this before and you would have thought I said 'I throw puppies in the ocean for fun'. I don't hate movies. I actually enjoy them when I see them. I just don't have a need to watch them or go out to the theaters. Feel asleep on the first three Star Wars movies (friend forced me to watch them after work), only saw Chamber of Secrets (field trip) and Deathly Hallows Pt. II (friend really wanted to see it in theaters even though I told her I hadn't watched Part One), only saw the last two LotR (friends did a marathon w/o the first one) and one Hobbit movie (friend wanted to see it in theaters). I only watch movies when someone forces me to. Now TV shows. That's my shit. Star Trek is my love.
  12. *reminds self to never enter Need Coffee in an IV's apartment* @Neist You have the composure of an etiquette king! Teach us your ways. Gilmore Girls is a great show. Watched it sporadically while channel surfing. I'll have to watch all the seasons to understand the revival. In related news, since I'm moving to Oregon, I figured Portlandia was required viewing. Each episode I wonder why I'm watching this then I click on the next one. It's so bad but it's so good.
  13. Congrats @sjoh197!!! That's great news. I'm really curious to when I get my first stipend amount. Doubt it will be at orientation.
  14. Looking at the women in my family, I seriously doubt I'll go farther than A. Yay liberated nipples!
  15. As a trans woman who's in the beginning stages of transitioning, I really resent the idea of bras. Like, I've always had prominent nipples but now I have to pay extra for a piece of restrictive fabric because I'm presenting differently now?
  16. @hippyscientist I should be more interested in building and design since I love fashion, but nej. Even in real life, interior design falls to the wayside. Planning to get better once I land a full-time position. Moving is expensive. Moving cross-country is an investment. Currently looking into shipping my car. Oh boy.
  17. I actually hate building and designing in The Sims. Haha! When she used to play, my sister would design my houses and rooms for me. Not holding my breath over TS4. They screwed up big time with the advertisement and production of the base game.
  18. YAAAAAY! @sjoh197 We call them 'pork rinds' in Georgia. Haven't had them since I was a kid.
  19. Haha! TS2 has many charms. What keeps me playing TS3 is the story progression and open neighborhood. Went back to TS2 and I just couldn't take the loading screens.
  20. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Been playing since 2000. Have all the EPs for 1 and 2. Most for 3. Played most of the console games. TS4 is shit. Played a friend's copy a few times. So, so glad I never bought it. I only play TS3 now. It comes in waves: I'll play nonstop for a few weeks, stop for months, come back to it. On the ninth generation of my family. Longest I've had in TS3. Longest ever was 13 generations.
  21. YOU LIKE THE SIMS?!?! I automatically love you.
  22. Cherish the white stuff! I starting hating it till I left New York. I miss having seasons!
  23. Well, they told me the chicken is just marinated in soda. Maybe the other reason is why they love it so much.
  24. They sound like bucket list experiences! I had two Peruvian friends who would visit every year. They raved over two dishes called Coca-Cola chicken and green chicken. Did you try any of that over there?
