@MarineBluePsy Designating today as my veg out time. I definitely need it. I'm surprised by how nice my place is. Maintenance is prompt, management is friendly, pre-furnished with pieces that are attractive, comfortable, *and* functional. 2/3 roommates have moved in so far. We pretty much do our own things w/o getting in the way of each other, but we chit-chat whenever we cross paths. No one knows about our last roommate. Haven't heard from him at all. All in all, I'm grateful. Just in awe that I'm finally here.

Sorry. Meant to say 'trans / gender non-confirming'. @Neist Go her! For the most part, college campuses are havens for trans / genderqueer folks. Being from the Deep South, I'm happy to be moving to the PNW. I hate hate hate inconsiderate pedestrians. If a car hits you, regardless of law, you're more likely to get hurt than the driver. Happy I'll only need my car for groceries and traveling.

In the same boat. I'm one of the few people I know that prefers reading over visual media. I've never used Amazon Prime. Thrifting is my weakness. Got great finds through Goodwill. @sjoh197 That was a wild visual. Maybe chamomile tea will help with the weird dreams? One of my roommates finally responded to my e-mail. Lo and behold, she's also trans! Seems like a cool person. Made my stress go down a tiny bit. P.S. I'm buying white Christmas lights for my bedroom. It's cheesy but IDGAF. Happy to hear about everyone's start. Keep up the positive vibes.

I had the opposite thought when I moved from Southeast Georgia to New York. Our country is so hilly! @sjoh197 I can't recall any David Bowie songs. Please don't hurt me. @Neist Just bought The Sims 4 two weeks before I move. Not a good idea. Found out my program is tailgating for the first football game of the season. First time tailgating *plus* haven't been to a football game since senior year Homecoming seven years ago. How do sports work again?

@Pink Fuzzy Bunny It's off-campus apartments catered to college students. It's unaffiliated with my university, but it act as an unofficial residence hall. Pre-furnished, only responsible for your portion of the rent, split light bill. @sjoh197 Haha! No offense taken. I used to be the latter: not give a shit till it was time to give a shit. Overall, I'm nervous about this setup. I emailed them as a way to put my nerves at ease. I'm trying to change my ways to be more proactive not reactive. I don't want to just move in and leave everything to interpretation. That's guaranteed conflict. Ugh. :/ BTW, glad to be back here! Happy reading everyone's first day stories. Hope y'all's continue with the success!

I really, really wanna play it but it's not supported on the 4s and my update is in October. Why is a diamond or even a ring a must for marriage? Diamonds are *astronomically* marked up and its industry is atrocious. They are my birthstone, but I could never support it. I already feel shitty when I buy sweatshop products. If my partner bought me a diamond, I would be really upset as it doesn't align with my ethics & values at all (and they should know this if they're proposing to me lol). I'd rather put the money towards the honeymoon or to charity. My art teacher made a dagger for his wife and she loved it. My classmates were freaked out but I thought that was the most badass proposal ever.

@easybreezy I didn't have high hopes coming in and those fears were confirmed. Good news is I'm building my supervisory skills tenfold and I know what area of the field I'll be entering I do NOT want to pursue full-time.

That cat is the cuddliest of all cuddly things. To hell with the sniffles it'll cost me. Iwannatouchit Getting a groove settled with my internship. Three-day break now. Get to actually enjoy the city with friends and do laundry. Grad school news: my program "buddy" will lend 2/4 required textbooks to me! It pays to ask around.

Last summer was my time to travel and go all out. Cutting it back this year with a summer internship.

To live alone or not to...that is the question

Find a roommate. Saves money and the majority of your time will be spent out of the house. If things go south, you will only have $600 to pay for. An affordable amount to pay on a decent stipend. Ask everyone you interview how they're going to afford rent & utilities. If things sound fishy, run. Now is not the time to be lenient. Cool Bob isn't so cool when it's the first of the month and he's short.
