3. I am pretty sure we still qualify for the May 1st installment, we'll obviously just have a delay getting funds.
at this point i wonder if i should just email sshrc and be like "i accept the award" just to troll them into telling me anything (I haven't received the letter yet lol)

No letter in Vancouver today but I got a "how to activate your award" email from the university so it's feeling a little more real
yay! just out of curiosity, what do you have to do ? just email them?

do we know how many people applied altogether and how many people got awards this year?

Exactly! It's a huge crapshoot.
I should note, however, that when I applied originally, I geared my SOP explicitly towards English programs. This marked a major shift in my (inter)disciplinary training in WGS. I was not admitted to any English/Lit PhD programs and was not awarded the SSHRC, but did end up at one of the best WGS PhD programs in the world. And hence, I think it is this fact of being firmly situated in a program when you apply - especially true for interdisciplinary programs, I think - along with the letter from a current supervisor that really pushed my application up a notch this year.
amazing!! congrats! I still can't wrap my head around why they would give american students a CGS knowing full well they can only take a fellowship...

Update: my friend in Vancouver got her news (via Canada Post) today. I get my mail late (4pm-ish), so I don't know if I'll get my letter or not.
oh wah. nice. curious if ottawa > vancouver takes longer or ottawa > yellowknife takes long (where my letter is sent to)

Nothing in the mail in Atlanta, America-dwellers.
so for those in canada (especially west coast), you should receive something by tomorrow I assume...? anyone's got anything yet?

can someone explain to me why so many students who are not in Canadian universities won the CGS? I thought it's exclusively for those in canadian institutions? do they just give them CGS in name but eventually award them with a doctoral fellowship? I am so confused...

First of all, congrats! I believe you are able to downgrade the award to the fellowship. However, I'm not sure what this means for people who are on the waitlist.
I'm somewhat in the same boat. I've been awarded something but I'm not sure what lol (waiting for the mail). And i'm also moving to the US for school, so I have but no option to pursue the fellowship.
Does anyone know how SSHRC external funding coincides with a school's funding? Can you just combine both, loose some, decline one, etc.
great question. so for me, i have funding for 6 years at an american university. some schools have stipend caps (for my university it's $32000USD), which means your internal and external stipend money cannot exceed that amount. you can put some on hold, let one kick in (SSHRC, for example), and resume the halted one when one runs out. there is room to play for sure.
also it's astonishing how weak the CAD is lol

literally couldn't sleep properly last night zzz. not sure how long more i gotta wait. has anyone emailed sshrc and asked for your results? what has worked

someone should write a paper on the therapeutic effects of gradcafe lolol

PS: my letter is going to yellowknife i think i can just forget about it -
