Do you know how soon? I applied for that program and haven't heard anything yet. I'm going insane!

One thing I do with my students when I notice they're struggling is remind them that I'm available to answer any questions for them or help them with study tips either after class, during my office hours, via e-mail, or by appointment. Not only does this assure your students that you're there for them, but it also covers your butt if a student complains that you didn't do anything to help them when you gave them numerous opportunities to get help. Also scare the bejesus out of them the first day of class about plagiarism and cheating. I don't know if you use Blackboard at all, but there's an option on there to have students submit their assignments via SafeAssign, which checks for plagiarism. Reminding your students of that will (hopefully) tell them that you will know right away if they're cheating. I've been an adjunct for three years and have never run into a plagiarism problem because of this.

I'm always happy when students respond in class and do well. I get even happier when a student who started off the semester struggling improves throughout the semester. I'm the happiest when my students enjoy what's being taught and it sticks with them.

I still haven't heard anything yet. At this point, I'm pretty sure I didn't get an interview, but I'm hoping it's because I met with the professors before I applied. According to the results page, I should be hearing about a final decision between the last week of February and first week of March. Doesn't mean I'm not going to obsessively check my e-mail!

I'm in the same boat. I only applied to Duke (Visual Media Studies track) and haven't heard anything back yet. I had an in-person meeting with a number of the professors before I applied, so I'm hoping that helps my chances a bit. Good luck to you!

I applied to only one Ph.D. program (probably not the best decision, but they were the only school that I was happy with that fit with my research topic). I haven't heard anything back yet, even for an interview. I met with six professors there before I applied, and my POI said he thinks I have a good chance of getting in. I'm hoping that if I don't get an interview, it's not necessarily a bad thing since the professors already know who I am. I won't know ultimately until mid-March at the latest.

I work full-time and teach as an adjunct. I got my application for my Ph.D program in at the beginning of September and took the GRE a week later on one of my days off. I had written my SOP and edited my writing sample and CV before the new semester started. I worked on it a little at a time each day so I wasn't overwhelmed with my work schedule and preparing for the upcoming semester. If you try to do everything all at once, it's very daunting. Try setting a little bit of time aside every day to work on your application(s). If you have the drive, determination, and dream to pursue that degree, you can make it happen!

I haven't been invited to an interview yet, but I visited all of the schools I was interested in before applying. I only ended up applying to one of the three schools I visited. I work full-time, but I was also adjunct teaching when I did my visits. Good luck!

I applied to Duke University's art history Ph.D program. I met with a number of the professors in person when I was still looking for programs to apply to. I got really excited about the program and the professors seemed to like me when I met with them. I haven't received word about interviews yet. If I don't get an interview, is that necessarily a deal breaker since I've already met with them before applying?
